The royal family attended a Remembrance Sunday service at The Cenotaph this weekend to commemorate members of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces killed in WWI and WWII. Many spotted that the Queen wore five poppies this year, reportedly to represent each service in the World Wars – the Army, the Navy, the RAF, the Civil Defence and women.

However, royal fans were also very aware of the fact that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were stood on separate balconies.

There have been rumours of a rift between the Fab Four for months. Prince William and Prince Harry reportedly didn’t see each other in private for six months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in May 2018, and this weekend William and Meghan made their  first public appearance together since baby Archie’s christening.

Harry addressed the feud rumours in his recent documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, but when they were sat separately at the Royal Albert Hall for the Royal British Legion’s annual Festival of Remembrance on Saturday night it only fuelled speculation.

But the reason that the Duchesses stood separately this weekend has nothing to do with any of the rumours. In fact, according to  Hello! magazine, the royals stand according to their order of precedence in the royal family.

Kate now stands next to the Queen in place of Prince Philip since he retired from royal duties in 2017, and considering her husband is the second in line to the throne it makes sense that she would be close to the Queen. Camilla also had a spot next to the monarch as Charles is the imminent heir.

Meghan stood next to Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Princess Anne’s husband, Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence.

So if you thought it was all to do with some sort of royal drama, it’s actually just down to the royal pecking order.
