Real Talk: I'm Obsessed with Power Walking | Girl with Curves

If you would’ve told me years ago that one day I’d wake up excited to power-walk around my neighborhood, I would’ve laughed out loud. But that’s my current reality and I couldn’t  be happier!

Years ago I thought I had to run and weight train in order to tone and strengthen my body, and I even gave it a try a couple months ago, thinking that consistently rehabbing an old knee injury, along with finally getting rid of chronic joint pain would do the trick, but nope — these knees just aren’t built for the impact of running right now, and I’m okay with that, because walking has been amazing for both my mind and body.

Back in December I found myself extremely fatigued with really low energy. It turned out that my iron levels, which have always teetered on the low end most of my life, had slipped under the normal range.

During the six weeks it took to get my levels back up to normal with a supplement, I wanted to get some sort of movement in, so I started walking.

I started off  just 15 minutes on a treadmill at a zero incline, at about 2.8 mph a few times per week. After a couple weeks, I increased my incline a bit and increased speed to 3 mph. After a couple more weeks, I had increased my incline to a level one and increased my speed to 3.2 mph. I was walking for 40 minutes to music that made we want to dance, so I walked to the beat, and I LOVED it!

Power-walking is now the daily movement I crave. I look forward to getting up in every morning because I can’t wait to power-walk it out on the treadmill or around my neighborhood. It keeps me grounded, relieves stress, and sets the tone for my day.

So if you need a new form of movement that’s easy on your joints but gets your heart, body and mind energized, I highly recommend walking at your own pace and finding your groove. You won’t be disappointed, I promise!

Proof You Need a Pair of Culottes June 04, 2018 at 12:45PM

I’ve been trying to find the perfect pair of culottes for as long as I remember. For some reason, the fit is just always off. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that most don’t allow me to wear them high-waisted – an absolute must when wearing a wide leg pant because it shows off your waistline without adding width to the already wide silhouette – or if it’s the fact that very few fit loose enough in the legs, but I’m happy to report that I FINALLY found a great pair!

These are $35, have an elastic waist-band that allows you to wear them as high or low waisted as you’d like and fit loose in the legs, which make the ultimate culotte! Dave and I shot this look a couple of weeks ago while location scouting in New York for a very important shoot I can’t wait to share in a couple of weeks!
