Real Talk: My Husband Went Vegan and I Lost Weight October 15, 2018 at 12:45PM

via Girl With Curves https://ift.tt/2pSTDC7

When I was in the final stretch of pregnancy last December, Dave decided to go vegan. He had been doing tons of research on health, wellness and how both relate to food for several months, and while I knew the day was coming, to say I wasn’t prepared for the actual transition is a huge understatement. My initial reaction was ANGER!

I was angry because not only was food one of the many ways we bonded and nurtured our relationship, through dinners and launch dates. But I was majorly pregnant, hormonal and always HUNGRY. So what was I going to eat, while he cut out meat, eggs and dairy?! And how was I going to manage cooking now 3 meals, since Narayan already rarely ate what Dave and I would eat, so now I would be making an extra alternative for my husband, too?! And how in the world was our relationship going to survive this big of a change?!

The first couple of months were hard. Even after I had the baby and my daily cravings for my favorite restaurants had settled down to a reasonable couple of times per week vs twice per day like when I was pregnant, I couldn’t fully wrap my head around the fact that my husband – a man who ate anything and everything, was no longer eating meat and dairy. He lost weight pretty rapidly, first 20, then 35, and now 45 almost 10 months in.

While the initial change was hard to swallow, Dave’s lifestyle change actually helped our entire family adopt better eating habits, especially me. He started helping more in the kitchen, and he turned out to be an amazing cook, finding creative ways to not only incorporate vegetables into most of our regular meals, but he also found vegan alternatives for some of our favorite meals, like tacos, replacing ground chicken for tofu (sofritas). And when I wanted to eat out, he would find options he could still enjoy from our favorite places.

What to Pack When Traveling with an Infant October 12, 2018 at 12:45PM

With the holidays right around the corner, and a couple of flights booked for our family of four, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I’ve done things differently with Minnie, after learning hard lessons with Narayan.

Flying with kids at any age can be challenging (we’re looking at you, toddlers!), but after lots of trial and error, I’ve found that you can actually tote an infant with relative ease if you do the right prep by taking a few key items for the flight!

Here’s a list of things I never leave home without, when flying with a baby in tow:

4 Ways to Stay on Track with Your Health and Wellness this Season October 03, 2018 at 12:45PM

via Girl With Curves https://ift.tt/2NirEVF

Once fall rolls around, my first impulse is to give myself a much needed break — a mental break from the daily grind, always being in go mode, eating the same food day in and day out, and a physical break from working out. But whenever that mindset starts to set in, I put extra energy into staying on track, mind and body, because I’ve learned from personal experience that keeping your health and wellness top of mind (even when it’s the last thing you want to do) goes a long way to not only boost your overall health, but also your self-confidence.

Here are four easy ways to beat the fall slump:

How to Pull off Skirts and Dresses with Flats October 01, 2018 at 12:45PM

via Girl With Curves https://ift.tt/2QkXnaM

So many women feel they can’t wear a skirt or dress unless they’re wearing heels, and I want to set the record straight. As lovely as heels look with feminine silhouettes, the myth that they’re the only footwear choice that looks flattering, simply isn’t true! Sure, the wrong shoe pairing can look more frumpy than polished — but that just means you need to learn a few simple style rules.

While I love a great pair of heels that make me feel sexy by highlighting my curves in all the right places, I only wear them when I absolutely want to, otherwise I’m in stylish flats. Trust me, after having kids, flats are much more practical for staying on your toes!

Pulling off flats with dresses and skirts is all about finding the right balance in terms of lines, occasion, and color. From a classic pointy toe flat to a loafer, mule, or even sneakers, I promise you can pull flats off with every single look in your closet.

Here’s your how to wear flats with anything, cheat sheet:

Real Talk: How I Overcame Shopping Anxiety September 04, 2018 at 12:45PM

Have you ever gotten nervous about shopping — or perhaps avoided it all together — simply because you didn’t feel confident in your body?

Whether that was just a moment in time or how you feel every day, you’re not alone. Even though I now feel completely confident choosing clothes for myself and get joy out of shopping, there have definitely been times when I avoided the mall out of insecurity.

Having the confidence to face your fears head-on takes work, but I can assure you from my own experience that the shopping anxiety cycle can be broken! Here’re 4 tips on how I overcame my own anxiety and learned to enjoy shopping:
