Dust off your broomstick, it’s that time of year again. Spooky season is upon us and it’s time to dig out your favourite Halloween outfit.

But before you resign yourself to last year’s get up, global fashion search platform Lyst has predicted the ten Halloween costumes that you’ll be seeing a lot of this year.

They analysed online shopping behaviour of more than 104 million shoppers across 12,000 fashion brands and retailers, as well as social media mentions and engagement statistics worldwide since January to determine which celebs, characters and political references were most popular.

As a result, they’ve estimated that this year the following costumes will crop up again and again:

1. Pop Politics

Union Jack prints are trending, apparently, likely as a result of the Brexit date colliding with Halloween. Bags, clothing and shoes adorned with the British flag have seen a 138% increase in interest year on year.

2. Lizzo

The yellow swimsuit that Lizzo wore at this year’s MTV VMAs wasn’t just iconic – searches for a similar one-piece spiked 160% in the week after the performance.

3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Tarantino’s latest movie likely contributed to searches for ’60s’ increasing by 71%, and white patent boots (like those worn by Margot Robbie) saw a 31% increase in interest from fashion savvy fans of the film.

4. Little Women/Prairie dresses

Prairie dresses remain a breakout trend, despite the fact that the film hasn’t even been released yet. Since July, searches for prairie dresses and milkmaid-related dresses has grown by 45% and basket and woven bags are up 60%.

5. Old Town Road

Since the fashion icon passed away in February, classic all-black suits had 4,000 searches and high-collar white shirts saw a 67% increase since July. Fans could pay homage to the late designer and his cat, Choupette.

7. Aladdin’s Genie

The live-action remake of the Disney classic sparked a 1,600% rise in social mentions, and blue wide-leg trousers and red belts are sought after. Chunky gold jewellery is also a breakout trend – coincidence?

When it first hit screens, everyone opted for Seven’s signature look. But it seems that more people are interested in Steve and Robin’s work clothes this year. White sailor suits have seen a 250% search increase over the last three months.
