It’s always the same thing with Chanel Ready-to-wear pieces; when I see them on the model I LOVE them, when I see them on the hanger I’m not sure if I can pull it off, but as soon as I put it on… It feels like it was made for me. I know, sounds so dramatic, but it’s true. The fit is always perfect, and I’m literally never not liking the fabrics, colors or patterns. Of course, not ALL pieces from every collection are my thing. I’m not the person to obsess over a label, just because of the label. It’s truly the quality I can appreciate, but moreover, as classic and vintage Chanel might sounds, it ALWAYS works with a pair of jeans. What else could a girl wish for…
So here I am, sitting in one of the floral stall in my neighborhood. It’s been a while ago since we shot these Chanel Ready-to-wear Fall-winter 2017/18 Pre-Collection images, and a lot happened in that time. One thing related to this shoot, is my friend and photography babe Marinke leaving New York, and moving back to Amsterdam. God do I miss her and here creative eye. I always feel so blessed with the great photo-talents around me. Jeff as the ultimate street style photographer, Marinke to bring me those fashion/editorial shots, and now Sabrina with a great eye for detail and light.
It’s not always been like this. Trust me! I started with the best I had – and he was good: Thomas. Considering he had never shot a person, posing in the street, trying to highlight what she was wearing, he was pretty damn good! But after a couple of years, I had to up my game – and save my relationship LOL – so I switched to my first official street style photographer friend: Daniel from The Urban Spotter. This was in London. After London came New York part I where I worked with Simbarashe Cha, before I met Jeff. We’ve been together ever since. EVEN when I lived in Toronto, Jeff would fly in every now and then, to shoot a shi*t load of content, so I had some room to breath. Until some awesome dude, who happened to live in Toronto, too, posted a snap from some fashion week… It was Dan Kim! The rest is history.
So basically I’m been extremely lucky with the creatives around me, and truth is, I would not be ANYWHERE if I didn’t have them. The people who can translate my vision and creativity to the right film, the right shot, in the right light, and the right setting, is priceless.
So in the light of the Holiday Season, thanks to all of them, and of course, all your photographer related questions are more than welcome!
