3 Ultra Filling Soup Recipes August 29, 2018 at 08:16PM
Because one of my goals this year is to focus on eating healthier meals and Dave became Vegan eight months ago, we’ve been cooking more at home — which means we’re always looking for recipes that are easy to prep, have fresh ingredients, and fill us up. I usually eat a quick breakfast, so lunch is when I want to have something heartier, though not so hearty that I feel weighed down.
That’s where soups come in! Something you may not know about me is that I’m a die-hard soup person. I love soup and would eat it for every meal if I could. (And if you follow me on instagram, you might have seen a couple of Dave’s cooking takeovers!).
Soups are great because they pack a lot of protein, fiber, and veggies into a single bowl and you can prep them ahead of time and freeze or refrigerate them for later. It’s a no-brainer option for lunch, because I can just heat up a bowl in the microwave if I’m working. Plus, kids love soup! Any meal that’s a hit for me and my entire family is an instant win in my book.
Here are three delicious recipes I keep coming back to:

Epic Cover Letter Tips With Parlour X’s Founder Well, hello there! Are you currently looking for a new job? Maybe you’ve been putting off updating your resume for eons, but can no longer afford to keep burying your head in the sand? Don’t worry, I’m not here to judge. On a scale of taking out the trash to filing taxes, writing a cover letter rates as a solid 10 in terms of things I hate doing. It’s a universally acknowledged fact that writing cover letters suck, and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who enjoys the process (if they say they do, they’re almost certainly lying to themselves/you). Welcome to the latest instalment of our ‘Epic Cover Letter Tips’ series. Each month, we’ll be picking the brains of industry experts for tips on how to write the best mother flippin’ cover letter in the world to make the whole process a lil’ less daunting. This time around, we chat to Eva Galambos, founder of best ever fashion boutique Parlour X. Aside from having flawless taste, Eva knows a thing or twenty about hard work, drive and what makes a solid cover letter that’ll stand out from the crowd, hence us asking her a bunch of questions about them below. Raise your pen, and let’s toast to taking over the world, one epic cover letter at a time. Key do’s and don’ts… “Do show your personality. Potential employees want to get to know you, and your cover letter is the perfect place to do this. Save the more clinical facts and stats for your CV. Do double and even triple check your spelling and grammar. Nothing looks as sloppy as someone who hasn’t made the effort to run a cover letter through Spellcheck. Even better? Ask a close friend (or two) who are sticklers for spelling and grammar to proofread it for you. Do include your main contact information, even if you also listed these on your CV. Don’t forget to do your research. Find out the name of the person or persons who are doing the hiring and address it to them, using their name. Misspelling their name or using a generic ‘hiring manager’ comes across as cold or, worse, lazy. If you can’t find out, a simple “To whom it may concern” will suffice. Also, research the company and weave in relevant details. Don’t ramble. No-one has an hour to read a three page cover letter. You should be able to summarise your experience, why you’re perfect for the role and your overarching driving professional motivation in a few short sentences.” The purpose of a cover letter is… “The cover letter should be a shorter, more personable version of a candidate’s CV. Often dates and dot-points get a bit dry after the 98th submission, so make the life of the hiring manager easy by being succinct, interesting and easy to read. Give them something to remember you by.” Stand out by… “Use a graphic layout similar to your CV, but not so overly-designed that it’s hard to read. A basic Word doc can easily get lost. Use the hiring manager’s name, tailor your cover letter for the actual role you’re applying for, and for extra brownie points drop the key terms or phrases that they use in the job advertisement.” Always include… “Always introduce yourself by way of explaining your overarching career goal. Then include a brief summary of the most recent and/or most relevant work experience and explain how this makes you perfectly suited to the role. Include something that shows your personality or will make you memorable.” Leave out… “Omit headshots (they’re just creepy… and potential employers will probably look you up on Google/Instagram/Facebook anyway). Leave out detailed break downs of your education or previous achievements. These can be listed more succinctly in your CV. And leave out exclamation points – you should be able to express your passion for the role without this.” The perfect length is… “200 words, maximum.” Lead collage, Emily Gill of @egstudio.co | Words, Madeleine Woon | With thanks to Eva Galambos of Parlour X The post Epic Cover Letter Tips With Parlour X’s Founder appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. A Local Model’s Guide To L.A Grace is the definition of ‘down to earth’. She is an old soul, and a lover of vintage cinema, clothing and beauty. Her self-described style is “classic, romantic, minimalistic and French” and we couldn’t have worded it any better ourselves! Her favourite thing about Los Angeles is “the wellness and health aspect of it. I really love the lure of natural beauty and putting more effort into how you treat your body from the inside and then you just glow.. It just makes me feel clean and wholesome and pure.” I mean… lets be friends, really. The Belt Bag Wearing: Frame jacket, Christopher Esber trousers, A.Emery slides, Parisa Wang x Zanita belt bag I love it when my friends totally nail it with their work. One of my favourite women in my life, Zanita, has teamed up with Parisa Wang to design this super chic belt bag, or bum bag as its lovingly called in Aus. The perfect finishing touch for this all black look that needed a belt anyway. I love a wrap style jacket or styling a blazer with a waist belt, and this is just the right amount of statement. 5 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Bags Under Your Eyes August 24, 2018 at 12:45PM
Thanks to late nights and early mornings with my daughter, who is now 8 months old, I’ve had to battle a common side effect of not getting as much sleep as I usually do: under-eye circles and bags.
While a good concealer (and my tricks for instantly making eyes look more awake) can help make the bags less visible, I prefer to find natural ways to get rid of them because it ultimately saves time in my routine and will last longer than makeup does.
Here are five non-invasive ways I’ve recently tried that have helped tone them down, while refreshing my eye area at the same time — and they only require ingredients that are likely already in your kitchen!
10 Things About Me August 24, 2018 at 12:45PM
Hi Everyone,
It’s been a few years since I’ve done an About Me post, and I’ve noticed lots of new readers stopping by recently, so I wanted to take some time to reintroduce myself to those of you who have been following along for a while, and say hello and welcome to those of who who are new to GWC!
I started this blog in 2011 as a creative outlet outside my former career in the tech industry. Shortly after, I decided to put a mission behind it: to show women they can look and feel amazing at any size.
I’m a mom of three – a little boy named Narayan (who I call Nyan, 4 years old), and a baby girl named Madina (whom I call Minnie, 8 months old) and an English Bulldog named Kingston (whom I call Kingy, 6 years old).
I’m multi-racial American (mostly African and Caucasian descent) and my husband is Indian, from New Delhi, India. My maiden last name is Ferguson, married name is Awasthi – pronounced Uh-was-tea.
I’m a full-time lifestyle blogger, covering Style, Beauty + Living here on GirlWithCurves.com, on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube.
I’m the oldest of 6 — I have 4 little sisters and 1 brother. We all resemble, but have different skin tones and hair textures.
I live in the SF Bay Area, but I’m often in NY for work, especially this year while my design collab. with Lane Bryant was in the works! More on that here – the collection launches in a couple weeks on 9/9!
I’m typically a size 12/14 on top and 16 on bottom, and I’m 5 feet ten inches, with a size 12 foot. (And the sizes I’m wearing are always listed in the details section of each outfit post here on the blog).
My hair is naturally curly and I love my curls, however, I didn’t embrace them until I was 22, when I met a girl with hair similar to mine who loved her curls. She inspired me to love my own. I stopped straightening my hair and now I rarely go straight.
I have a degree in English from UC Berkeley (go Bears!) and I’m a licensed Esthetician.
I battled eating disorders in my teens, then excessive exercise, diet pills and calorie restricting in my 20’s. It wasn’t until I injured my knees so bad I could barely walk that I had a major wake-up call and learned to accept my body in its natural, curvy state. You can read more about my journey to self-love on my About page.
I have a very small circle of non-internet friends who are mostly my sisters (#TrueStory), but I consider each and every person I connect with through Girl With Curves a friend!

Ruth Flanagan On Vibrant Childhood Swimsuits And Reading The Tarot “In a nutshell, I work with brands to deliver meaningful and authentic campaigns. I’m currently learning to read the tarot and strongly believe in the power of thought and the importance of sharing whatever you have in life!” “…The mega babes Francois, Brigitte, Jane, Claudia Cardinale, Gina in Heartbeat, Bet Lynch in Corrie definitely inspire me most style-wise, and you can’t beat the aesthetics of films like La Piscine and Purple Noon.” “…A black roll neck, a trench, cropped cords, white t- shirt, a boxy jacket and anything leopard print would be the few things I couldn’t go without, though as a child I remember showing off my bright yellow swimsuit which had HUGE black polka dots on it and lots of frills haha! I’m super into Ganni, Miista shoes at the moment and I’ve recently fallen in love with a Spanish brand called Paloma Wool.” “Hair oil is a god send, especially in the British summer heat!” Instagram @ruth_flan | Photographer @mikechalmers The post Ruth Flanagan On Vibrant Childhood Swimsuits And Reading The Tarot appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. 6 Instagram-Worthy Makeup Looks To Try This Weekend When it comes to sourcing a hot new makeup look to try out on the weekend (or, you know, any day of the week pending your office/school dress code), you really can’t go past Instagram. From on-trend lewks like neon and glitter, to trusty favourites like ~no-makup makeup~ and a glossy lip, these girls will inspire you to reach deep into your makeup bags and emerge a Pat McGrath-in-the-making. I’ll be real, I’ve never been the most proficient makeup artist—in fact, for most of my twenties I wondered where I was when the lessons on properly applying makeup were being handed out. Probably holed up reading a book somewhere, or more likely, in my bed staring at the ceiling. Recently, I’ve changed my ways. Books have been replaced by YouTube makeup tutorials (my skill levels still don’t attest to this, I don’t really watch them for their educational purposes, but rather because of their meditative/therapeutic effects), and my makeup bag looks the best it ever has. How’s that for a humble brag? Before you lose yourself to the magic that is the following 6 instagram-worthy makeup looks, lose a good chunk of your time (well spent) LOL’ng at @terrybarberonbeauty and his weird makeup inspo—from the royals to the modest garbage bag. Ready? Let’s go… Sweet As Candy the best is yet to come A post shared by Sarah Feingold (@sarah.feingold) on Jun 25, 2017 at 1:16pm PDT Turn your face into a confectionary store with a bubblegum pink beauty lewk. This makeup looks best on fresh, dewy skin so make sure you do your prep. Intentionally Flushed drip addresses those who came thru drippin but fails to mention copious amount of sweat/constant lingering unattended body oder of the season still a dope track though A post shared by Susannah Liguori (@susannahiliguori) on Jul 17, 2018 at 5:03pm PDT Who says blush is reserved just for the cheek area? Popularised by shy, awkward teens, the flushed look is totally having a moment, and while I might skip it due to my generally rosacea-tinted skin, I implore you to try it for yourself. Again, dewy skin is a must, so make sure you thoroughly prep the skin before you try this at home. Bronzed Beb Headacheeeeeeeeeee (。 ́︿ ̀。) A post shared by 𝕵𝖎𝖆𝖍𝖊 𝖅𝖍𝖆𝖓𝖌 (@better_pray_to_jeebus) on May 18, 2018 at 7:07am PDT Ring the alarm, ’cause the bronzed look just got an *actually* wearable upgrade. I’ve been hankering to make friends with my bronzer for a while now, but flashes of my heavily caked-on face in the early noughties was enough to make me step the eff away. This lewk, with it’s subtle, matching eyeshadow and bronzer, is the push I needed to rekindle the flame. Also, will for sure be adding cute clips a la the above honey. Somewhere Over The Rainbow didn’t see you in a while A post shared by Sarah Feingold (@sarah.feingold) on Jul 16, 2018 at 10:11am PDT A touch more complicated than the previous looks, the effort put in will be far outweighed by the compliments you’re bound to receive if you do. A Flick Of Neon A post shared by @ bbgorlambs on Jul 21, 2018 at 7:45am PDT Neon is officially in, and the easiest way to grab a piece of the pie for yourself is to add a flick of it to your eye region. Cah-ute! A Hint Of Metallic Silver A post shared by María Bernad (@maria_bernad) on Jun 19, 2018 at 9:35am PDT Ditto, glitter. If you can’t afford to fork out thousands for a pair of the Chanel glitter boots, treat your eyelids to the royal gliteratti treatment instead. 3 Ways To Dress Up Your ‘Jeans And A T-Shirt’ Combo Whenever I wind up wearing jeans and a t-shirt, the process is akin to scouring Netflix for an hour in search of an exciting new TV show, only to land on one of my old favourites (Friends, Sex and The City, Peep Show, etc). While I love the idea of ~experimenting~ and branching out with my style—in much the same way as I do my viewing tastes—sometimes it feels good to lean into what you know. Ya know? That’s not to say the ol’ jeans and tee outfit has to put you to sleep, though. With a few flicks of the magic wand — a.k.a the addition of some cute accessories or an ~unexpected style twist~ — your outfit can go from b-o-r-i-n-g to c-o-o-l in no time. Read on for fresh and exciting ways to breathe life into your trusty favourites, and then we can all meet in the comments section to talk about how Friends will always be the greatest TV show ever made. Okay? Ok! Go To Town On Accessories feel like a snack in our cute new accessories, available now on the COH SHOP (link in bio) A post shared by CHRONICLES OF HER (@chroniclesofher_) on Aug 16, 2018 at 1:02am PDT Honestly, I need to hunt down whoever gave rebirth to the scrunchie trend, and personally shake their hand. Scrunchies are the cutest and easiest way to add ~personality~ to an outfit, they won’t damage your hair, and they’re about as cost effective as they come. And, why stop there? Add a beaded bag, a pair of gold hoops, and a red lip, and then sit back and revel in the joy that is living your very best lyfe. OUTFIT RECIPE: 1 x Bassike Jeans, 1 x COH beaded bag, 1 x Rag & Bone white t-shirt, 1 x COH plaid scrunchie, 1 x Reliquia gold hoops = Daaaaaaayum, gurl! Make Like Jeanne Damas, Add A Heel/Blazer Omotesando A post shared by Jeanne (@jeannedamas) on Apr 18, 2018 at 6:03am PDT Today, in the land of denim, we’re going by retiring our favourite pair of sneakers in favour of a heel/blazer instead, all thanks to the most stylish lady in all of Paris, Jeanne Damas. Make like the style kween and add a graphic tee, a pinstripe blazer and flared jeans to give it that deriguour effortlessness inherent in the way french women dress. OUTFIT RECIPE: 1 x Re/Done flared jeans, 1 x Tommy Jeans logo t-shirt, 1 x Mink Pink stripe blazer, 1 x Matiko block heel pump = Oooh, La La! Opt For An All-White Look Don’t forget to do your squats A post shared by CARMEN HAMILTON (@carmengracehamilton) on Aug 10, 2018 at 3:58am PDT There’s just something so badass about wearing an all-white outfit. It’s like, I understand the risk of wearing all-white, especially in the company of clumsy friends and red wine, but I’m willing to go out on a limb anyway to look this F-A-B. Opt for a high-waisted fit and a cropped white t-shirt in a light, breezy fabric to ensure that it looks flattering, and add a pop of colour with a head scarf and/or leopard print belt. Voila! OUTFIT RECIPE: 1 x Hanes x Karla cropped t-shirt, 1 x Grlfrnd white jeans, 1 x GANNI kitten heel, 1 x ASOS leopard head scarf = Did it hurt when you fell? What’s your favourite way to jazz up your jeans and a t-shirt combination? Words, Madeleine Woon The post 3 Ways To Dress Up Your ‘Jeans And A T-Shirt’ Combo appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. Flip-Flops Are Officially Back! Here’s How To Wear Them There’s been whispers circulating on the internet for a while that flip-flops were set to make their triumphant, rubbery return. And, now, blisters and uncomfy shoe trend-related calluses can let out a collective sigh of relief, because that day is finally upon us. We’re calling it: flip-flops are *officially* the sandal of summer. How does that make you feel? Flip-flops (known as ‘thongs’ here Down Under) have gently nudged the humble slide out as the new repurposed pool shoe favoured by the street style masses. It was only a matter of time, given that we’ve burnt through pretty much every other nineties and noughties trend in existence, from shell anklets to the ubiquitous slip dress. My feet aren’t mad about this, TBH. Flip-flops can add an edge to an otherwise feminine outfit, and when paired with the right pieces, will make your outfit look unexpected and chic. Most importantly, they’re comfy af. If you’re going to try this at home, remember that a pedicure is an absolutely non-negotiable accompaniment to your rubbery friends. Read on to see how some of our favourite Instagram girls have been making flip-flops cool again… Pernille Teisbaek Flashback to lunch at Ritz @tara_g_panah @chanelofficial A post shared by Pernille Teisbaek (@pernilleteisbaek) on Aug 19, 2018 at 10:47am PDT Do as Pernille as done, and pair your rubbery new friends with a fun daytime dress. The lewk is casual, but not enough to make it seem as if you just forgot to change shoes before leaving the house. Bonus points for matching sunnies. Shop the look: GANNI polka dot dress, Havaianas Brasil Sophia Roe Post weekend vibes #still A post shared by Sophia Roe (@sophiaroe) on Jun 26, 2018 at 9:32am PDT If you want your outfit to communicate that you are DTT (down to trends) but also that you will never compromise on the timeless, sophisticated vibe you’ve got going on, Sophia Roe is ya girl. The key here is opting for a pair of leather flip-flops. Shop the look: Celine sunglasses, Baum Und Pferdgarten blazer, TKEES leather flip-flops Chloe Hill Bondi hipster A post shared by Chloe Hill (@chloechill) on Jun 10, 2018 at 4:19pm PDT While Chloe proclaims to be a Bondi hipster in this ~cool as a cucumber~ lewk, we doubt they’d be so ahead of the curve as to dream this up. Steal your boyfriend’s jeans, add a pair of Havaianas and jazz it all up with a sheer blouse. Fun accessories are key. Asking For A Friend: How To *Actually* Get Rid Of Coldsores When I was younger, cold sores (almost successfully) set out to ruin my social life. They had this adorable little habit of arriving on the eve of school photo days, camps, sleepovers and school socials. It caused me great stress—which, as you will know if you’re afflicted with the virus, is a major trigger itself. Lose, lose situation. Over the years, I became very proficient at fighting cold sores. While my disdain for them never waned, I would almost wish them into existence, so I could go into battle with them and emerge victorious. I tried and tested every single trick and wives tale under the cold sore-inducing sun—some exacerbated the situation, some became loyal allies in my the endless fight to destroy them. As I sailed through my late teens and early twenties, their visits lessened, which I think can mainly be credited to Lysine and Zinc consumption, and the upswing in my SPF+ game. I can count on two hands the amount of coldsores I’ve had in the past decade (thankfully, since they don’t really seem to have a place in an adult’s world). Largely the triggers remained the same—hormones running rampant, burning the candle at both ends, fatigue setting in—but the list also grew to include such things as: drinking too much alcohol. After two years of living life blissfully devoid of a lip friend, I woke up to a small blister forming on my lower lip last week. Joy! Luckily, my +1 was modest in size and positioned in such a place so as to be mostly obscured from the harsh gaze of the general public. Still not ideal, considering the timing was pretty much the adult equivalent of getting one on the morning of school photo day. Let me set the scene: intimate afternoon gathering, me and my cold sore, my ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend. Cute-meet! I got onto the CS swiftly enough that by the time I was saying my awkward hellos, you could barely see it (especially with the help of my good friend, lip gloss). Still, it reminded me that many people are still out there trying to fight the good fight against them. And so, I give you, my full-proof guide to murdering your next coldsore… BUY FAMVIR IMMEDIATELY This is a true ~life changer~. I’m not sure why no one told me about it sooner (???), but ‘better late than never’ applies all the same. You should always consult your doctor/pharmacist before taking new medications (obvs), but according to this handy site, they’re an “antiviral medicine used to treat recurrent outbreaks of cold sores in adults 18 years of age and over who have a normal immune system.” The best results are yielded if you get onto it straight away. Honestly, I’ve had coldsores just straight up disappear after taking famvir, so I recommend sprinting to the chemist as soon as the symptoms of a cold sore present—such as tingling, itching or burning, or the appearance of the first signs, such as redness or swelling. This is when the virus is reproducing rapidly. SWITCH UP YOUR DIET This time around, I went on a militant anti-cold sore diet. Basically, you want to eat foods that are rich in Lysine and low in Arginine, and ones that will boost your immune system. A diet rich in the amino acid lysine and low in the amino acid arginine may help control coldsore outbreaks. Also, avoid overly spicy and acidic foods, with anecdotal evidence suggesting it may worsen symptoms. Below, a guide to the foods you should be treating your tum to, and those that you should avoid with the same dedication as you do your ex. Eat: yogurt, most cheese, apples, eggs, mangoes, apricots, pears, fish, green tea, echinacea and shitake mushrooms Avoid: processed foods, refined flour, refined sugar, chocolate, oats, most nuts, most seeds, beef, beer and coffee (I know, that last one particularly sucks) STOCK UP ON VITAMINS Take the following for prevention and to help with healing: Vitamin C, Zinc, and Lysine (which suppresses argenine, an element that helps viral cells reproduce). Also, I recently found out that a b12 deficiency can trigger coldsore outbreaks (and, you know, make you super sleepy all the time), so it might be worth getting your b12 levels checked. LEAN ON HOME REMEDIES/ANTIVIRALS Apply ice to the affected area immediately to reduce swelling—if you get onto it asap, and use ice in conjunction with other attacks, it can be truly ~game changing~. I’ve personally never gelled with Zovirax cream, but I think the COMPEED coldsore patches work really well, in that they speed up the healing process so much, and the coldsores are much less painful/obtrusive/visible as a result. 10/10 recommend. HYDRATE AND CATCH SOME ZZZ’s Fatigue triggers outbreaks, so try and ensure that you’re hitting your daily sleep targets. When you have a coldsore, it’s generally a sign that your immune system ain’t doing so well, so in order to boost it—sleep as much as you can, and when you’re awake, make BFFs with your water bottle. PRINCESS FOR A DAY: THE BEST DRESSES ON SALE August 15, 2018 at 12:00PM
Okay, I’m not going to lie; most dresses that qualify as “dream dress” to me, are expensive. Even on sale they are not most likely to be out of my budget, but a girl can dream. So I’m dreaming. Yet, on the other end of the spectrum, there are dresses, especially when they are on sale, that are lifting every spirit in my body without breaking the bank. Trust me on this one, I know what I’m talking about… I’ve a wedding in Italy next week, AND the Venice Film Festival coming up, so I’ve done my research. Read more to see all the best dress on sale, and my “princess experience” in Paris during the Chanel Cruise show back in May 2018…
Needless to say, the Chanel Spring-Summer 2018 runway dress I’m wearing in this post is one of the most exquisite ones I’ve ever worn. It’s not mine, and I’m not making a secret it. The brands I work with – like Chanel in this case – dress me when they invite me to their shows and events. It’s an amazing opportunity for me to wear the latest collection – a dream I had when I started my blog, and is still a dream every single time I wear one of the most beautiful pieces – and as well to show you how to wear runway in “real life” and get inspired by the style. So to make this thing interested for all of you – big spenders or small – here’s the most insane list of dresses I dream of having in my wardrobe. Starting with the designer ones, which are also ALL ON SALE NOW…
And the best on a smaller budget – ALSO ALL ON SALE!
