Daye CBD Tampons

Are you one of the nine in ten women in the UK who experiences period cramps, or in the 40 to 50% of women suffering from primary dysmenorrhea, the medical term for painful periods? There’s a new product on the market that claims it can really help.

That’s right, the UK’s first clinically validated CBD tampons have just launched. Think a tampon, but upgraded to offer a more sustainable, natural, cramp-fighting version.

Daye CBD Tampons, from £7 per box, daye.com

Daye CBD Tampons

The CBD tampons are the first foray into consumer products from Daye, a female health research company. After almost three years of research, trials and testing, they’re now purchase to buy on the Daye website. Prices range from £7 to £16 for a box (FYI, they’re priced depending on the choice of tampons).

Wondering what’s so special about a CBD tampon, anyway? Well, the Daye tampons promise to offer a natural alternative to medication for women who frequently experience painful periods, thanks to the CBD. Plus, they’re both dye and pesticide-free, built from absorbent fibres and lab-tested to hold them to the highest standard.

CBD… in your V? . . 🔑Yep, you heard us right. Companies are putting CBD in everything nowadays so we can't blame you if you're a little sceptical—but hear us out. Aside from being highly absorbent, the vaginal mucosa has one of the highest concentration of cannabinoid receptors in the human body. These make up your Endocannabinoid System, which helps keep inflammation and pain at bay, amongst other things. The bioavailability of CBD (meaning how much of it is absorbed into your bloodstream after being administered) massively depends on the route of administration, so how you take CBD affects how much of the compound ends up in your system. Vaginal application has a much higher bioavailability than ingesting CBD (in the form of drops or pills, like is commonly used). But you can't just put a little bit of CBD oil onto a tampon and call it a day, because the oil would just be absorbed by the tampon, and not the vagina! There's a bit more engineering that goes into making a CBD tampon, but luckily we've taken care of that at Daye. If you'd like to learn more about CBD bioavailability and Daye's CBD tampons, visit www.yourdaye.com/vitals/CBD. For those of you who are wondering what CBD is, CBD stands for ‘cannabidiol’, a type of cannabinoid chemical which is found naturally in the cannabis plant. CBD won’t get you high or intoxicate you (another cannabinoid, THC, does that).

Daye’s products contain a concentrated 30% whole plant hemp extract, plus a naturally occuring 100mg of cannabidiol per tampon. They say that yes, this is enough to offer pain relief, but no, not anything that could to get you high or show up on a drug test. Fun fact: although Daye’s tampons are yet to be tested by outside labs or non-affiliated scientists as far as Marie Claire is aware, their own clinical trials show the products to be as effective as anti-inflammatories.

According to the company, they’ve currently got 20,000 people on the waitlist, with 200 women trying the product on first release last year.

When asked about the motivation behind creating the company and product, Valentina Milanova, Daye’s founder, said: ‘The vision is to create a global consensus that the research and innovation gap in women’s health products and services is a thing of the past. We want to contribute to a world where every woman with a smartphone can understand, monitor and improve her menstrual, sexual and reproductive health.’

‘The first gender gap that we want to close is the gender pain-gap. Over-the-counter painkillers have never been tested on the female physiology and carry a plethora of side-effects (like gastrointestinal inflammation), so at Daye we have spent time researching and developing the patented CBD tampon to provide a safe and effective alternative.’

According to their website, Daye works closely with doctors and researchers to carry out research, but more information and details on the specifics of this can be found on their website.
