The 12 Best Beauty Brands I Discovered On Instagram I feel like I’m the only one not willing to throw Instagram under the bus these days. The app is not without its controversy, sure, but what kind of person would I be if I trashed the platform that single-handedly supplied me with my fill of aesthetic beauty product shots daily? A person without any respect for the algorithmic powers that be, certainly. Thanks to some of the best beauty collectors on the ‘gram, I’ve been made privy to beauty brands that are the product equivalent of international Instagram models: perfectly manufactured, colour-coordinated, and somehow everywhere at once. From my exceptionally indulgent Instagram explore feed, and with the help of my fellow beauty nerds online, I’ve amassed a list of all the ~next best~ in beauty. Make sure to memorise the below brands now, so you can say you knew them “back when” ;). ASARAI Glossier’s Millennial Yellow cousin. Founded by Australian “naturopaths”, the back-to-basics skin care line is unisex and super effective, thanks to carefully curated ingredients. I have to be honest with you, nothing pleases me more than having the bright yellow tube of the Earth Tones Mask peeking out from my own beauty display. Well, maybe clear skin pleases me more. It’s a blessing this line offers both.   View this post on Instagram   Brighten up Wake up with a refreshing glow from a cocktail of Aussie botanicals — sunflower seed oil + rainforest lime extract + aloe vera juice from our Earth Tones mask! After applying the brand’s serum and moisturiser for the first time, I’m not sure I could tell you the difference. The serum goes on like liquid velvet (you had to be there), and the moisturiser called into question all my previous notions of hydration. Aside from the fact that application was an out-of-body experience, these bad boys didn’t lead to a break out (which is a break through for me).    View this post on Instagram   Dry skin doesn’t stand a chance against these moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated all season long. #SkinUnexposed • • • • #bblogger #skincareregime #instaskincare #luxuryskincare #skincarecommunity #luxurybeauty #skincareaddict #skincarejunkie #instaskincare #skincareblogger #skincarediary #igskincare #skincaredaily #skincareproducts #skincareluxury #summerskincare #amroutine #vanitiesofig A post shared by Dr. Loretta (@drloretta) on Oct 8, 2018 at 12:10pm PDT Kosas Kosas’s quality-over-quantity mantra has customers lining up for their prodz, but their simple black-and-white packaging is what has landed them in beauty cabinet pics the world over. Inspired by a handful of take-me-there destinations, Le Paradis Beauty has developed a range of balms chock-full of the good stuff (grape seed oil, shea butter, liquorice root extract, the works). I, too, was hesitant to let such an openly banana-flavoured balm meet my lips. Wearing the line’s infamous balm as I type, all I can say is: don’t judge a balm by its controversial flavour. Not only is the hint of banana flavour enjoyable (words I never thought I’d type) and the formula petroleum-free, but Le Paradis also gives the people what they want in terms of pastel packaging. I’ve only been there once, although that brief dalliance with the city was enough to have me plotting ways to pack up shop to live there for the summer of ’19. Speaking to London creative Ruth Flanagan only compounded my desire to jet across the pond, and according to her, the BEST thing about living in London would be, “the sheer variety, diversity and magic of the city, and walking home to the view of Alexandra Palace as the sun goes down.” Delightful! Holidays at Home

via Wide Eyed Legless https://ift.tt/2zqRhQ4

Ready or not, it is officially holiday season. So cozy up with that cup of tea and get ready for your annual pilgrimage home to visit with friends and family alike.

Heading home for the holidays doesn’t mean that your fashion sense total escapes you. Quite the contrary if you ask me. To me, the holidays are the perfect time to wow the fam or make a stellar first impression.

Holiday dressing doesn’t always mean wearing a dress. You’ll hardly catch me in a dress, but that’s only because I often don’t find dresses that I love. So this holiday I am opting for a simple, yet incredibly chic look: a pair of oversized denim, a chic blouse tucked in and a great pair of minimal heels.

These heels happen to be from Stuart Weitzman, which has been my go-to destination for wearable, gorgeous shoes this year. I love these Nudist heels because they are so striking, yet so incredibly simple (aka my favorite kind of shoe). Shop my favorite holiday dressing options below!

3 Brand Spankin’ New Ways To Wear A Printed Scarf In today’s episode of How To Make The Most Of Your Wardrobe, we enlist the help of a printed scarf in providing us with three distinctive party season-ready looks. Such a small amount of silk, such big outfit aspirations! Usually when I hear the word ‘scarf’, my mind immediately jumps to that scene in Bridget Jones’s Diary where she is cruising along in a convertible, imagining herself to be some sort of modern day Grace Kelly, when her head adornment flies off in the wind, never to be seen again. See below for a lel refresher:  After a bit of sartorial experimentation, however, I now see it for what it truly is: the most versatile accessory of summer. While the following ~wayz 2 wear~ were concocted with us Aperol Spritz-sippin’ summer babies in mind, the outfit recipes can be slightly rejigged for those in the Northern Hemisphere who are heading into cooler climates (we’ve covered that below)…   1) As A Top This first luk is gonna require your torso, your hands, this guide and a nearby speaker blaring the Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights soundtrack (to set the mood, ya know?). Got all those things? Great! Let’s goooo. Georgie wears vintage jeans (SIMILAR), Reliquia gold hoops and a Bess scarf To turn your square of silk into a sassy top befitting of an afternoon spent drinking fruity cocktails and slurping back oysters, you’re gonna need to know how to tie it. We’re not talking Girls Scouts levels of dexterity—just some common sense and basic mastery over your hands. Anywaaaay. First, half the scarf diagonally so it becomes a triangle, then fold again longways once more to create a thick band. Place over your chest, then tie it around your back, at the level your bra normally sits (which brings me to my next point: you will have to forego a bra for this lewk). Pop on a pair of vintage denim jeans, a gold necklace and some sasstastic (?) gold hoop earrings, and you are ready to rumba out the door. Northern Hemisphere notes: add a white turtleneck underneath to turn this into a toasty winter-friendly lewk. Georgie wears a Par Femme top, Reliquia gold hoops and a Bess scarf 2) As A Bandana Sure, the term ‘bandana’ denotes a Hell’s Angels-esque bikie gang, but when done the COH way, the only gang you’re gonna be attracting is a gurl one. He he he. To pull it off, first fold the scarf into a triangle, then lay the bandana flat on a solid surface, and bring the two opposite corners together to create a triangle. Position on your head (we like to have it about a third of the way back down our head from the hairline, to allow for loose hair to casually frame the face), then tie the two corners in a knot together, making sure that it doesn’t feel either too tight, or too loose. And now for the fun bit: team your bandana with a one-shouldered singlet top and a denim skirt for a haute summer lewk. Northern Hemisphere notes: Swap out the one-shouldered singlet top for the long-sleeve version, and the skirt for a pair of high-waisted, dark denim jeans. Georgie wears a vintage top (SIMILAR), a vintage necklace (SIMILAR) and a Bess scarf 3) As A Neck Scarf There’s just something so Euro chic about a piece of silk tied around your neck. For a summery take, tie the scarf behind your neck, so there’s just a band of silk showing at the front. Simple, yet genius, no? Also, if you’re feeling a tad extra, feel free to add another scarf into the mix! Whichever path you choose, just know that the neck scarf looks simply divine when paired with a cream halter neck top, white satin pants and a pair of strappy leather sandals. Northern Hemisphere notes: Eschew the grecian goddess look, and go for a more cool-weather-friendly combination of: cropped jeans and a white blouse. 4 Handbag Trends That Are All Over Instagram RN I remember my first handbag with such vivd recall, it’s almost as if the year was still 2003 (and Hilary Duff was still my kween). Alongside other nostalgic wardrobe trappings like Bond’s crop tops, tween-friendly heels and watermelon lip smackers, it signalled to the world that I was entering into the “not a girl, not yet a woman” chapter of my life. The word ‘fabulous’ doesn’t even come close to describing how I felt whenever I sassily slung that hot pink, satin and ~tastefully~ sequin number over 12-year-old arm, and it can definitely be credited (or cursed) for instilling in me a lifelong obsession with handbag trends.  Many different handbags have taken up residency on my arm since then—from the hobo and Von Dutch bowling bags of my youth, to the more sophisticated iterations that have speckled my adult life of late. While the styles have changed over the years, my obsession with them has remained the same. As far as accoutrements go, the handbag is not only the easiest and most stylish way to jazz up your outfit, it’s also the most functional. Where else are your snacks and various lip-glosses meant to live, after all? With a little help from our pals at Deadly Ponies and their delightful new collection, we’ve rounded up our favourite Instagram-endorsed handbag trends for you to shop right now, along with four cool girl-approved ways to wear them…  Ebony wears the Deadly Ponies Mr Stitcher PVC Bag Handle Ring Bags Ebony wears the Deadly Ponies Mr Stitcher PVC Bag Why we love: I didn’t even know that I was tiring of arm straps until The Great Handle Ring Bag Trend Of 2018 swept the globe earlier this year. The addition of the handle ring is unexpected enough to give you an aesthetic thrill, yet subtle enough to be introduced to your wardrobe with ease. There’s also the option to go hands-free by slipping this Deadly Ponies handle ring PVC bag over your wrist. Versatile!  Wear it with: Do as earth angel/DJ Ebony Boadu has done and keep things satisfyingly tonal with with an adorbs ribbed singlet and cropped checked pants, then spice up yo’ life/look with a splash of on-trend leopard print—this cute as bucket hat, for instance. Buy your own Deadly Ponies Mr Stitcher PVC Bag HERE.  Scout wears the Deadly Ponies Mr Tulip Bag in Violet Colourful Bags Scout wears the Deadly Ponies Mr Tulip Bag in Violet Why we love: And just like that, bright colours became the new black in the handbag world. This is emblematic of a wider shift in fashion away from the minimalist normcore days of yore, towards a more-is-more approach that champions individuality and puts the fun back into getting dressed. Yippee! The easiest way to jump on the maximalist bandwagon is to add a pop of colour to your life courtesy of a B-R-I-G-H-T handbag, which is exactly why we can’t wait to decant all of our worldly possessions into the purple Mr Tulip Deadly Ponies bag. Other than being extra *extra*, the bag is made of leather softer than your face will be after following the COH team’s skincare routine (extremely).  Wear it with: I know I just espoused the benefits of maximalism as if my young(ish) life depended on it, BUT if you’re wanting to lean into the coloured bag trend in a low-key way, do as sweetheart Scout has and pair it with an all-white look. The outfit recipe as follows: a sheer bodysuit, a well-fitted blazer, a pair of cropped trousers and a statement pair of sunglasses. Buy your own Deadly Ponies Mr Tulip Bag in Violet HERE.  Chesca wears the Deadly Ponies Mr Frizzling PVC Bag PVC Bags Chesca wears the Deadly Ponies Mr Frizzling PVC Bag Why we love: Call me voyeuristic, but there’s something so rewarding about seeing other people’s possessions on display—it’s like a real-life walking, talking ‘What’s In My Bag?’ article. As for me, the PVC trend is a good motivator to adopt a more minimalistic/considered approach to my handbag contents (less chewing gum wrappers and receipts, more chic sunglasses and Chanel lipsticks). Also, how many bags can say they’re waterproof? Not many (if any), making this a very practical choice indeed. With its understated leather trim and casual-cool vibes, I can’t imagine that your belongings—be that fruit, magazines, or beach towels—would want to be carried around in anything other than the Mr Frizzling PVC bag this summer. (I checked, they don’t). Wear it with: Look as #flawless as cutie pie Chesca Athes does by pairing yours with a good pair of dark mom denim jeans, a checked Ganni top (or if you’re after something more pared-back, this beautiful and cost-friendly ASOS white linen top), and a pair of statement sunglasses. Small, compact and cute to boot, the belt bag literally straps to your body, meaning no more visits to lost property. Genius. It’s big enough to provide shelter for your ride or die possessions—phone, keys, wallet—but nimble enough not to weigh you down throughout the day, or when you’re out cutting shapes on the dance floor. Go for gold with this metallic Deadly Ponies belt bag—the cooler, très sophistiqué answer to the bum bag trend of last year.  Bonus points for the Deadly Ponies belt bag, because it transforms into one of the other hottest trends of the moment—the chain bag—with one quick flick of the wrist. All you need to do is take off the detachable belt and sub in the gold chain strap. Voila! You have yourself a completely new look. Wear it with: The tonal outfit Ebony was rocking with the above bag also works well with this lil’ guy. For a more Sunday morning brunch-appropriate take on tonal dressing, opt for a pair of camel trousers, a ribbed white tank top and a pair of leather flip-flops.  Buy your own Deadly Ponies Mr Mini Woolf Metallic Chain Bag HERE.   Words, Madeleine Woon | Photography, Georgie Wood-Weber  *This feature was shot in collaboration with Deadly Ponies  The post 4 Handbag Trends That Are All Over Instagram RN appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. Real Talk: How I’m Beating the Holiday Blues November 21, 2018 at 01:45PM

via Girl With Curves https://ift.tt/2qYyk2E

I seriously can’t believe the holiday season is already here! Lately I find myself looking at Minnie thinking, where did the time go?! This time last year I was counting down the final weeks of my pregnancy, and now I get to watch this amazing little human learn to walk, talk and grow alongside her brother who loves her dearly.

We’re currently in the midst of doing some renovations at home and planning Minnie’s first birthday party, so everything is super busy as usual, but life is good.

Every year when the holidays roll around though, I find myself in a bit of a funk. I don’t know if it’s just burn out from general work and life, but I definitely have to make extra effort to stay in a positive head space this time of year.

Something that helps keep my mood in check is writing out a gratitude list, expressing who and what I’m grateful for. This year I wanted to share my list, in hopes of inspiring you to create your own, if you’re feeling any holiday blues.

Here are 5 things I’m grateful for:

Right? The photographer/DJ/director says her favourite thing about living in L.A. is that “you’re allowed to dream and turn those dreams into a reality”. If that’s right, then I’m on the next flight over there (dream big Jai Jai). BEAUTY BYTES: Michael Bubl̩ Рthe king of Xmas, sharp suits and now fragrance

https://ift.tt/2zc0L1o

I heart this smooth talker...

Welcome to Beauty Bytes: a place where I chat to celebrities about all things beauty – from their favourite products, to their biggest beauty disasters. Plus I grill them on their social media habits and their favourite cheat meal. You know, all the important and essentials things that we need to know about.

In this edition, I totally lost my chill when I sat down with Michael Bublé. I now totally get why he’s top of so many women’s ‘lists’. We chatted about his fragrances (which would make a brilliant Christmas gift FYI), losing his cool in front of the Queen and the best chat up line he’s ever heard.  Prepare to fall head over heels… KT – Digital Beauty Editor

KT: LET’S GET STRAIGHT TO IT AND CHAT ABOUT FRAGRANCES.

MB: I’d love to chat about fragrances. Do we have to? I am not the expert. Life is good. I really enjoy hockey. And I love being a dad. And uh, you want to talk about the fragrance huh?

KT: COME ON LET’S TALK ABOUT IT A LITTLE BIT… TELL ME ABOUT THE NEW FRAGRANCE.

MB: Well, okay I’ll talk to you about the fragrance. So this journey began about four, five years ago. I was asked if I was interested in having a fragrance. My answer was no. I had no interest to be honest with you. I thought it was really cringe-y. I’d like to think that I have dignity with everything that I do and how I do it. But they asked me again, and my idea was that if I was going to do it, I wanted to understand the industry. And so that’s what I did. I actually went to a perfume counter, I met with perfumers – I mean honestly we spent days, hours, going through all of these different notes and I was completely involved. It was really nice for me because it was an incredible challenge. It was very similar to making music – you’re dealing with notes in the same way, obviously different types of notes, and it was a lot of fun and completely different. It went from me feeling cringe-y about it to then having confidence because I really, really liked it. I thought it was a really nice scent. I remember at the fragrance launch, I mean I had gone as far as fighting over the design of the bottle.

KT: IT’S GREAT THAT YOU WERE INVOLVED. IF YOU’RE GOING TO PUT YOUR NAME TO SOMETHING…

MB: Absolutely right. What was really nice was showing up at the fragrance launch in New York. I was walking past and I heard this woman say to another journalist, ‘Huh, this actually really, really nice.’ I said, ‘It’s lovely that you’re complementary but why are you so surprised?’ And she basically said, ‘Because we come to these things and there is so much crap that so many famous people do.’ So without getting into too much detail, we had talked about advancing the line and creating more. But as you know, and I won’t get into it, there was a lot of stuff happening in my life that meant I wasn’t able to go and do the same thing. Luckily for me, I had gained a really nice trust and friendship with the perfumer and the company. And I trusted that they understood my style and what I like. So they were able to go off and create the new one, until my mind was free and I was able to lock into these decisions. It’s really nerve wracking for me to sit here in front of you, because I won’t lie. I refuse to do that. I won’t go into more detail about this fragrance than I know, I can’t tel you a story about how it was created, but I can tell you that I wouldn’t have released it if I didn’t like it. I knew that we had a good fragrance when my mother told me that my dad wore it.

KT: THAT’S ALL THE CONFIRMATION YOU NEED. DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE FRAGRANCE? IF NOT, DO YOU HAVE ANY GO-TOS?

MB: For years I wore Santal 33. I loved it. It had a lot to do with the inspiration for the first fragrance. I just loved the base of sandalwood and vanilla. I think I had an ex-girlfriend used to wear it actually, and when she’d hug me people could smell it on me and would compliment me on it. Lately, my signature scent would probably be like, baby poop. And weirdly enough it’s the one that I miss mostly, because you walk around for years saying ‘does it smell like vomit to you?’ And then all of a sudden it’s gone and the kids don’t vomit on you any more and you weirdly miss it.

KT: WHAT ARE YOU FAVOURITE SMELLS?

MB: Coming home. Having that smell of whatever your mom is cooking. Sort of that comfort, you know, hearing the noise in the house – the craziness, and smelling the great smell of whatever it is, chicken soup or a roast in the oven. I know how strange that sounds, but it’s the association; it’s so romantic and so sentimental.

KT: WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY SECRET?

MB: It’s just all a lie, honestly. Not caring anymore. I hope that I take care of myself and I shower, but the truth is I just want to be a happy person who lives in the moment with kindness and empathy. I told that to someone the other day, and she said, ‘Do you know what ego stands for? It stands for edging God out.’ And I thought that was really lovely. It was really nice.

KT: WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE GROOMING BRANDS?

MB: Top three grooming brands? Uh, well I should probably say my fragrance brand right?

KT: I MEAN, THAT COULD BE ONE OF THEM.

MB: Is Speed Stick a grooming brand?

KT: SPEED STICK? AS IN THE DEODORANT? SURE..

MB: And Colgate toothpaste. Are these horrible answers?

KT: NO THESE ARE BRILLIANT, GENIUS ANSWERS. HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN?

MB: Well of course I use Olay everyday. Not! I don’t know. I don’t?!

KT: WELL, DO YOU WASH YOUR FACE?

MB: WELL WHAT DO YOU DO? LET’S HEAR FROM YOU. OR DO YOU JUST WANT MY ANSWERS?

KT: JUST YOU. NO ONE CARES ABOUT MY ANSWERS. THEY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

MB: Oh, shit. Um, I don’t know. I really don’t wear any cream and I know I should. Soap and water?

KT: YOU KEEP IT SIMPLE. DO YOU USE AN SPF?

MB: Well, I have to. I’m forced to. Because if I use it on the kids. We use like SPF 80.

KT: I’M SORRY, DID YOU SAY 80?

MB: How do you feel about that, honestly?

KT: WELL, YOU KNOW THAT IT DOESN’T REALLY GET MUCH HIGHER THAN 30. IT LEVELS OUT, SO ANYTHING OVER 30 IS NOT REALLY ANY MORE PROTECTIVE.

MB: I didn’t know that. It’s very thick. I always wear it really thick. And it always makes me look even whiter. Like holiday pics? I don’t tan. I just get a weirder colour of red- pink.

KT: HOW OFTEN DO YOU WORK OUT? AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO DO EXERCISE?

MB: Every single day. Every day. I try to run on the treadmill. I do like these weird interval things – I try to run as fast as I can for two-minute sprints, then I take thirty seconds off. Listen, I do enough so that I can eat what I want. And it’s not to look a certain way. It’s so that I can keep up with my son. That’s it honestly. If I didn’t get to the gym I would be dead half way through a tour.

michael buble interview

KT: WHAT’S THE WEIRDEST PICKUP LINE YOU’VE EVER HEARD?

MB: Have sex with me if I’m wrong but your name’s Ddsiuhsiuhdoidhs?

KT: FAVOURITE TV SHOW TO BINGE WATCH?

MB: There are so many. Last Man on Earth. You know The Last Man on Earth? It’s an American comedy. It’s about, basically, the world ends because of a virus and there’s only one guy left. It’s great. I loved Planet Earth a lot. Richard Attenborough is incredible.

KT: YEAH, HE’S A NATIONAL TREASURE. AND 92!

MB: He’s amazing. I watched it last night as a matter of fact. But I always know that you’re going to see a cute animal and then he’s going to die. It’s about to get eaten.

KT: FAVOURITE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT TO FOLLOW?

MB: I don’t do it anymore. To be honest with you, it’s not about social media. I would rather just live life and stop taking pictures of myself. More love and less likes.

KT: WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALISE YOU WERE FAMOUS?

MB: I was in the Philippines. I had signed to an American record company at 25 and it just hadn’t gone the way I hoped it would. My career actually started outside of America in places like South Africa, Australia, South East Asia. I remember I was 26/ 27 years old and I had come to Manila and they told me that I shouldn’t go outside, but there was a sushi place in the mall next to the hotel. Anyway, I went next door and it was chaos. Like, really, scary. Someone recognized me when I was waiting in line to get sushi. And all of a sudden it just became this overwhelming, really crazy massive crowd. I came back to the hotel and the security guy sort of gave me shit for doing it. And I was so shocked; I had no idea that they would know who I was. And I remember going back to my room and opening up the curtains in the room and there was a massive building across the street, and it had my face on it. The whole building was just my face. And I remember thinking, ‘oh my God.’ Like now, it makes a lot more sense, you know? The one white guy in all of the Philippines and my face is on the side of a building. I think that’s kind of what did it.

KT: WOW. WHAT IS YOUR CHEAT MEAL.

MB:I just need a nice pasta, like a carbonara.

KT: WHICH SONG GETS YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR?

MB: Anything BY Michael Jackson or Bruno Mars. My kids and I listen to a lot of Uptown Funk. Also I love the new soundtrack for The Greatest Showman.

KT: OH MY GOD, I’M ADDICTED AND I HAVEN’T EVEN SEEN THE FILM!

MB: As a matter of fact my son said to me, ‘Papi when I see the show will you sing my song?’ And I thought he meant a song that I had written for him. And I said, ‘Well of course I can sing that song.’ So I started singing the song and he said, ‘No, no Papi- The Greatest Showman.’

KT: IT WOULD BE A CROWD PLEASER…

MB: I like it so much, that I found the singer from the song Never Enough, her name is Loren Allred, and I duet with her on my new album.  I love her voice.

KT: OK, ONE MORE QUESTION. WHO HAVE YOU BEEN STARSTRUCK MEETING?

MB: Honestly, the Queen of England. I think what I said was gibberish. Because I was in a line, it was the second time I had done the Royal Variety and there are far more famous people than me there. And I think I was holding Lady Gaga’s hand? Who now I know, but at the time I didn’t know Lady Gaga. And I don’t know what she wore that night, it could have been a meat dress – I don’t remember. But yeah, the Queen came down the line and she was sort of saying to everybody you know, ‘thank you’ and ‘lovely’ and ‘interesting’. And then she said to me, something like, ‘we enjoy you at home’ or something. And I just shut down. I really shut down. I- I really couldn’t believe that they- she, even- knew of my existence, that there was even an awareness that I existed. And the fact that she, they might have heard my music. I don’t even know what I said. I said something thing like, ‘*gibberish* Ma’am.’ Ma’am as in ham, I know. You know, the first time I did the Royal Variety Show, Shane Ritchie was presenting. So I was in this massive line with all the celebrities and Elton John is standing there. And as the curtain came up, I was stood there, terrified, and I said to Shane, ‘I’m really nervous, I don’t know what to do.’ And so the curtain came up and Shane said to me, ‘Bow, bow now.’ And I went and I bowed and I looked down the whole line and Shane was laughing his ass off. Because it was me bowing alone.

5 Cool Activewear Brands You Need To Know Until very recently, I didn’t relate to the idea that buying new exercise clothes could motivate one to lead a more active life. That’s not to say I didn’t require a gentle nudge to get me up at 6am (lel, far from it)—I just wasn’t too keen on the prospect of paying any more than the cost of an already-expensive membership fee to get me out the door. Contro opinion coming your way, but despite the enormity of the activewear industry, I’ve never really found exercise clothes that I actually like. I find the athleisure-wear trend to be too much of a “look” (read: tacky), and one that doesn’t translate to my everyday style. Basically, I feel like a fraud when I wear exercise clothes and can’t justify spending money to do so, and so, my oversized t-shirts, oft-holey cotton tights and scrappy old Asics trainers have been my mainstay at various Lululemon-saturated barre, yoga and cardio classes to date. But this story is not without a plot twist! Lately, I’ve stumbled across a bunch of brands making cute workout clothes that have got my heart racing faster than a 30 minute sesh on the treadmill. They’re all bursting with simple designs (not an #inspirational message nor a rhinestone logo in sight), they aren’t too pattern-heavy, and they could all be worn everyday—even for athleisure trend naysayers like myself. Outdoor Voices   View this post on Instagram   Hit the Royal Arch Trail next time you’re in Boulder. A short steep hike with sweet views that’s easily accessible from the center of the city. Get outside and start #DoingThings : @mitraoconnell @nmdejohn A post shared by Outdoor Voices (@outdoorvoices) on Sep 10, 2018 at 6:45am PDT Outdoor Voices can be single-handedly thanked for my athleisure wear awakening. It’s probs the first exercise brand I’ve ever come across that has instantly got me psyched to start #DoingThings. I love everything about the brand—from their inclusivity (as a curvy gal, it’s nice to be able to see your body type represented in the workout world) and the community they’ve built, to their veritable smorgasbord of CUTE AF designs. Aside from being sweat-friendly, supportive and v. easy on the eye, their wares have handy lil’ trimmings like inbuilt pockets for your keys, which is exactly the sort of ingenuity that makes me want to yell“TAKE MY MONEY!!!” at the computer screen while I add one of everything to my cart. See below for the standouts… These two-tone leggings (in pastel purple or red, please!) with the matching bra, this monochromatic crop top!!! (which is the perfect length to wear on its own with tights), these kneecap warm up leggings (again, the best length, especially for summer), and these polka dot bike shorts. Gil Rodriguez   View this post on Instagram   Tour de force in the Tour De France Short A post shared by Gil Rodriguez (@gil.rodriguez_) on Nov 2, 2018 at 12:49pm PDT The Los Angeles-based brand Gil Rodriguez is the mood board of your dreams come to life. Not only do I want to sweat it out in her pared-back, lush designs, they also seem like the perfect option for luxuriating around the house in, doing nothing but sippin’ on tea and tearing through a good book. The introduction of the label into my life has also been very timely. I’ve been mining old 80s workout videos for style inspiration lately (hot tip: as their primary function intended, these clips are a great/lol way to exercise for free at home), and her designs speak to this era, albeit in a cool and modern way. Bonus points for the label giving discounts to those who vote, and for their slow fashion ethos. See below for faves… Remember that bit about my 80s obsession? Okay cool, well with that in mind, I’d like you to meet this incred unitard, this bodysuit in ‘tomate’ and these ash grey, super soft bike shorts. Also, Gil Rodriguez makes the swimmers are the bomb if you haven’t heard. Ernest Leoty   View this post on Instagram   Our tailored activewear is focused on style, comfort, and technical performance. A post shared by Ernest Leoty (@ernestleoty) on Oct 7, 2018 at 5:57am PDT When phrases like “couture for leisure” and “designed with a Parisian sensibility” are thrown around, you know your bank account is in grave danger. I’ve been meaning to sign up for an adult ballet class for eons now and I think Ernest Leoty is just the motivation I need to pirouette my way right into one. I can’t wait to live out all my Centre Stage fantasies in the French brand’s elegant clothes, which are the perf barre-to-bar option ;). See below for the most j’adorable picks… This cream corset-inspired singlet top is almost TOO nice to wear while exercising (see what I mean about the b2b ^ claim), this red triangle bra is your new yoga BFF and this teal and navy bodysuit has convinced me to throw out all those preconceived notions about wearing exercise clothes outside of the gym. This is the most adorable fkn page ever!”, said my brain when it was first introduced to Nagnata’s Instagram page. And for good reason. The glorious sustainable brand deals in organic cotton knitwear in all ya favey colours, from pastel purple to red (noticing a pattern?). While I probably wouldn’t be cutting laps around the park in their stuff, it’s definitely MFEO (meant for each other) with yoga/pilates. The cutest of the lot… I’d def downward dog in these cute lounge leggings in pastel purple/black and this matching bra. Also not mad at these red booty shorts, or these red and black ones, either! Jeweller Lizz Jardim Has Endlessly Creative Style “I’m Lizz Jardim, a Brooklyn-based jeweller. I started making jewellery out of limited access to the things I wanted to be wearing. I took a jewellery class in college and fell in love with it. I grew up with a single mum who really knew how to make a lot out of a little with her wardrobe. That’s always been a big part of my style mantra—it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it. Limited resources actually end up facilitating the most original and creative expression of ones personal style. My style is an extension of my creative expression/aesthetic preferences that feels completely myself. Personal style is just another language, a way of saying something about ourselves without having to say anything at all. I like to have fun with my wardrobe, it reminds me not to take things/myself too seriously. I feel most myself in an outfit all red, preferably comfortable and somewhere far away from heels.” Instagram, @lzzjrdm | Photographer, @kristenjanwong The post Jeweller Lizz Jardim Has Endlessly Creative Style appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. Lady Dior

There’s nothing in the world that gives me a cozier feeling than a big oversized chunky winter coat. It’s a feeling of luxury in a time of sadness, because truth is, I still can’t wrap my head around the fact we’re deep into Fall. Not long now and New York City will become a frozen city, where days of crisp blue skies will go hand in hand with gloomy snow-days. Not that I don’t like it, but it was like “wait now we’re going to enjoy the summer” and then summer was already behind me. I blame it on my crazy busy summer, full of weddings, work-trips, and Fashion Weeks – both RTW and Couture. None of that was anything less than AMAZING, but it just proves that time is going so quick these days. Not only because of work, but also with our family lives. Early Fall Stella turned 5! FIVE YEARS OLD, I mean, where did the time go?

Anyway, here’s one of my favorite Fall looks, with a beautiful Dior coat and Lady Dior bag – which I both borrowed from the brand, to show you how to wear it! Combined with the best jumpsuit of the season – read more to find out where you can get it – and of course, my Triple S sneakers. No day goes without those… Sorry, but I’m not sorry!

This is how I rejuvenate my curls November 13, 2018 at 01:45PM

via Girl With Curves https://ift.tt/2QEss9E

I want to preface this post by saying this is NOT sponsored – this is simply a product I’ve been using for the past year that WORKS MAGIC!

When it comes to my hair care, I’m especially particular. I’ve tried tons of products over the years, only to return to my tried and true favorites time and time again.

After I had my daughter last year though, my hair was in the worst shape it had ever been. It was dry, lifeless and my curls were stringy and in need of some major TLC. I’m convinced that pregnancy hormones had taken almost all my curl away, and thanks to color processing and a bad highlight job the year before, I needed something to give my locks life again. I tried everything from salon treatments to products recommended by curly YouTubers and everything in between, with hopes of getting my curls back in shape. Nothing worked.

After reaching out to a hairstylist on social media, open to trying anything at that point, he recommended I try this deep conditioner. After using it just once, my natural curl pattern came back! All I did was follow the directions on the container to use it like a deep conditioning treatment, and my hair was moisturized, glossy and full of life again!

Now, whenever my curls need to bounce back after heat processing (which I only do about 1-2 times per year) or the changing weather, I use this intense moisture mask and it re-sets my curls, so to speak.

hong kong layover November 12, 2018 at 01:33AM

via Lust for Life by Olivia Lopez https://ift.tt/2qIgjp8 48 hours in Hong Kong.

I’m Officially A Shampoo Bar Convert, Here’s Why When it comes to silky smooth, healthy locks, no one does it better than the French godfather of hair, Christophe Robin. His natural hair care brand was born outta France, and is adored by everyone from us mere mortals to every 90s supermodel and French actress you’ve ever saved a picture of on Pinterest (from Linda Evangelista to Vanessa Paradis). And there’s no shortage of proof as to why, from his life-affirming Cleansing Pure Scrub to his heavenly-scented Instant Volumising Mist. I met the hair wizard IRL at a recent event (for their new range of natural temporary gels for grey hair), and did what any sane beauty geek would by quizzing him on flat roots, limp curls, and the must-be-avoided silicones. After answering all my burning questions, Christophe recommended I switch to using his organic shampoo bar after I told him my curly hair woes, and so a love story began.  Read all about why I’ll never switch back to regular shampoo, how I keep my curls looking bouncy, and why silicones are the devil below…  Achieving Voluminous Curls Without Your Hair Looking Flat On Top… After exchanging pleasantries with the charismatic French icon, we got straight down to business. “Why can we work to get volume in the ends of curly hair, but the top often stays looking so so flat?” I pondered. Christophe nodded knowingly, explaining that curly hair needing soft layers to take weight off the locks. The hair needs to be “more round rather than square and heavy.” Makes sense! Why Curls Disappear…   I’ll admit, this interview is turning out to be rather self-serving, he he. My second question for the day was centred on why my curls will be living their best life one day, and then gone the next. “It’s like they’ve taken it upon themselves to pack up shop and go on vacay without giving a shred of notice,” I exasperatedly tell my new hair saviour. “They need hydration,” says Christophe. Simple as that. He suggests trying his hydrating leave-in mist. “It has Aloe Vera which is super hydrating and so efficient,” he continues. “Spray that the day after and your curls will come back.” I can practically feel my hair springing to attention at this point. Silicones Are The Enemy Of Healthy, Hydrated Hair… Why my curls are dehydrated in the first place is more complex. All of the Christophe Robin products are silicone free. ICYMI, silicones are a class of materials that can be found in many haircare products because they are cheap, but as Christophe eloquently puts it, “they are shit.” While they give the illusion of shiny hair, they aren’t water soluble which means they stay on our hair when we rinse. Glllll. According to Christophe, this “doesn’t allow good ingredients [like the hydrating glycerine] to get inside your scalp and hair.” Basically this means our hair suffocates and suffers from an unquenchable thirst (like if you couldn’t have a sip of water on a hot summer’s day, yiiiikes). To get this devil’s ingredient out of your hair, Christophe suggests a refreshing dip in the ocean, washing with a salt water mix, or scrubbing those strands with his Cleansing Purifying Scrub (with sea salt). Why I Am The Latest Shampoo Bar Convert… Then comes my favourite part. As we bond over our shared enthusiasm for expelling toxic ingredients and building health back into hair, specifically those of us with curls, he exclaims: “Oh, you would love my shampoo bar! And it’s totally organic… I love this product and solid shampoo is the future, I’m sure.” Why is he so sure? “The bar is predominantly castor oil for regrowth and the hydration of the scalp,” he says. “At first you’re going to think it’s a bit weird, but give it a second chance and you’re going to see your curls!” With other ingredients, including the pre-mentioned hydrating Aloe Vera and glycerine, there’s not a single doubt in my mind that he’s right. Fast forward to me at home in the shower wielding the bar in my hand, acting like I’m the star of my very own shampoo ad. I wet my hair, then softly lather the solid block through it. It foams much quicker than pre-empted, spreading this intensely silky feeling through my fingertips. Needless to say, we’re off to a good start. I notice immediately, too, that it goes straight down into my roots, lapping up all that scalp grease, unlike most shampoos where I must force it into the roots or wash twice. At this point, I’m nodding vigorously to myself, like, Damn, what is this little magic block of goodness? Then comes the rinse. Under the shower, my hair now feels super grippy in my hands, like going down a slide with no pants on. Not quite what I’m used to, but dang does it feel clean. After a towel dry, I spritz the Christophe Robin Hydrating Mist about my head and scrunch it into my ends. And wait patiently for it to dry. Tick tock, tick tock. The results? I’m utterly, head-over-heels in love. It’s as if salty sea air danced its way through an open window to gently mist its way through each lock, twirling my curls back to life. My hair’s journey is not dissimilar from Cinderella’s rags-to-ball gown story. Except there’s no chance my hair will turn into pumpkin when the clock strikes midnight, and my fairy godmother happens to be an elegant French man with a penchant for natural ingredients. So yes, I’m impressed. My curls have come back from the dead—they’re bouncy yet controlled—and my roots are clean as a whistle replete with a satisfying grit that lifts them off my scalp (you’ll know what I mean once you try it for yourself). I honestly don’t know if another shampoo can ever top this feeling, especially when used in tandem with the spray. It should be noted that this is not a paid post—I’m just a girl who is passionate about natural products that not only do what they promise, but also go the extra mile. Before I bounce on out of here to live my life as recent shampoo bar-convert, I’ll leave you with my final score: a solid 12/10. Purchase your very own life-changing soap bar here. LOOK OF THE DAY WITH CHARLOTTE GROENEVELD November 11, 2018 at 02:20PM

Thefashionguitar Look of the Day

Looking back at this week, there’s obviously much more important topics to discuss than what I’ve been wearing and whether or not you should buy those looks. But as the world keeps on turning, and our alarm clocks still rings at 7AM on weekday mornings – on weekends we let our kids be our wakeup alarms – and that forever nagging question “what to wear today” never seems to take a day off, I’m sharing what I’ve been wearing this week, and of course, where to get it! The “Look of the Day” is basically a destination where you will find a mix of simple “Outfit of the Day” shots, collaborations that launched that week, or unpublished but noteworthy looks. Read more to get this week’s five best looks…

Starting with the all casual Monday look, wearing a Maje coat, Kule sweater, Re/done jeans, Chanel boots, Jimmy Choo bag, and old Céline sunglasses.

Thefashionguitar Look of the Day

Second look I loved wearing is one I ended up not sharing on my Instagram, but I’m convinced it’s such a good one for rainy days, so here it is anyway! The perfect rain coat by Designers Remix, in combination with a Prada rain hat, another one of my favorite Re/done jeans, Timberland x Off-white boots, and Tibi knit.

Thefashionguitar Look of the Day

I am obsessed with my new faux fur coat from Tibi, because it’s so easy to wear as you literally can throw it on whatever you’re already wearing! Of course with my Re/done jeans – if feels like a Re/done week, but truth is, their denim is just very good – and good old Balenciaga Triple S! My Jimmy Choo bag is perfect for days where I’m running around for meetings, as quite a lot of stuff goes in it.

Thefashionguitar Look of the Day

For my collaboration with Theory this week, I was wearing one of their “relaxed fitted” trousers, a fine knit, and a chunky knit as a scarf on top. My Calvin Klein sneakers are a big favourite at the moment, I’ve been wearing them a lot with trousers like the one I’m wearing them with in this look. Chic and sophisticated, but casual too!

Thefashionguitar Look of the Day

A look that for some will definitely be a bridge too far, but for me is the ultimate look right now: The hiking boot/skirt combination. Wearing my Gucci hiking boots with a Zara skirt, H&M socks, Kith hoodie, Chimi sunglasses, and Manu Atelier bag which I got for our collaboration this week!

3 NYC-Inspired Looks to Take You From Day to Night There are many wonderful perks of working in fashion, but year-in, year-out, the highlight for me is when I get to pack my (extra large) bags to take-off O/S for fashion week. Why? I love travelling (anywhere and everywhere), I get to be extra *extra* with my outfit choices, and I’m treated to a glimpse of what we’ll all be wearing in a year’s time. FYI, you’ll be needing at least a few 70s-inspired vacation looks to get you through next year – à la the seaside-chic-themed Michael Kors’ SS19 show (which got me more excited for summer than my first mango of the season). Other notable takeaways getting me in the mood for sand, saltwater and sunshine: crochet bucket hats, surf shirts, and clashing tropical prints. I want it all. Now! But before I get ahead of myself (and mentally make-way in my wardrobe for what’s to come next summer), I decided to take to the streets of NYC to pay homage to one trend that has withstood the test of fashion month time and time again. Versatile, flattering, comfortable and able to be reinvented a million times over, I’ll never grow tired of the understated-chic appeal of an all-black outfit.  The colour black has cemented itself as my go-to when I’m running late, and I’m always experimenting with different ways to reinvent it for whatever occasion I’ve jotted down in my calendar—from breakfast meetings to after-work drinks, and beyond. From the cobbled streets of Soho and the tourist-filled Washington State Park, here’s three cute NYC-inspired, all-black outfits feat. a few of my favourite pieces from Michael Kors. Wearing: Michael Kors dress and boots DAYTIME: Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise The number one reason I love an all-black outfit is that it allows you to go !wild! with your accessories. Slip into a pair of knee-high boots! Wear a neck scarf! Pop on those dramatic earrings you’ve been meaning to wear but haven’t gotten around to! No accoutrement is out of bounds when wearing all-black. It’s an undisputed fact that all-black is the most flattering sartorial choice one can make, and this is only heightened with the addition of a belt cinched at your waist (as I’ve done here). Wearing: Michael Kors top, pants & bag NIGHTTIME: Opt For The Elegant Two-Piece Any look that requires minimal effort with maximum return is one that I want in my arsenal always. Enter the sophisticated pyjama look. This one is so easy to pull off, you could do it with your eyes closed. To ensure it doesn’t wind up looking like an appropriate shut-eye outfit (i.e. your jammies), though, reach for an embellished two-piece set like this Michael Kors one. Understated, yet chic enough to suit any dress code. Wearing: Michael Kors dress, bag & shoes ANYTIME: Add A Statement Piece I’ve been worshipping at the altar of sneakers for as long as I can remember, and while I doubt that’s going to change anytime soon, I’ve been increasingly taken with heels of late. Is this what maturing feels like? Continuing with the all-black theme, these chunky MK heels provide the perfect combination of height and comfort. Pair with sparkly black silk dress, and you’re all set to nail the silly season. I’m Indian/British, I have a dog named Birdie who has all the anxiety problems I do, and I’m secretly obsessed with musical theatre.” “I think people tend to view beauty and fashion as the same. When we think back to the 60s or 80s fashion, beauty is very much a part of the image in our minds. It’s difficult to visualise a mini shift dress without a thick cat eye. My clothes always influence my makeup or hair choices and vice versa. They both equally help frame our personal style; they’re each others muses.” “I love getting to wear glamorous clothes that I wouldn’t wear in daily life (or afford) when I model. Shooting editorial is like playing dress up—you feel like a kid again. When I’m writing songs or performing, I try to be the most honest version of myself, whereas modelling I get to be someone else—the character the team are trying to create. I don’t have full control or “final say” the way I do in music because it’s not about just me. I’m apart of someone else’s creative project which is really nice for a change. If I could, I would change the superficiality though. I feel it is slowly changing, due to social media by shifting the focus away from looks and celebrating and promoting people who are doing interesting things (creative, political, etc). Presenting models as humans not clothing hangers.” Instagram, @zarinanares | Photography, @danaboulos The post Zarina Nares On The Relationship Between Fashion And Beauty appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER.
