Women can now order abortion pills via post in England and Wales

https://ift.tt/ZFe7IAx

“This was a vote for gender equality.”

UK Abortion Law 2022: women protesting for abortion rights

In health news today, the amended UK abortion law 2022 has been tweaked to mean that women will permanently be able to order abortion pills via post in England and Wales.

While this has been an option for the past two years, these measures were only put in place in March 2020 as a result of the UK lockdowns and were not set to be permanent.

The postal option made abortion viable from your own home instead of heading in-clinic to have an abortion and accessible for the many across the UK who were isolating Instead of heading in-clinic to have an abortion, t

After fierce campaigning at the beginning of the year, MP’s voted to permanently amend the Health and Social Care Bill and made at-home abortion via postal pill legal.

When the bill was passed, Louise McCudden, who is the MSI Reproductive Choices’ advocacy and public affairs advisor, shared: “We are delighted that MPs have voted to keep the option of at-home abortion care.”

“This was a vote for evidence over ideology, a vote for reproductive rights, and a vote for gender equality.”

“Making this safe and popular service a permanent option will particularly benefit those who struggle to attend face-to-face appointments, including those in abusive relationships, those with caring responsibilities, and those without transport.”

“Everyone chooses abortion for different reasons and under different circumstances. It is important that we can offer options that take into account personal circumstances – and that includes taking both pills at home.”

It’s now thought that, since 2020 when the postal pill was introduced, over 150,000 women in the UK have used it. Many have commended the government for making the move towards more accessible healthcare.

Studies have indicated that both the science behind the postal pill, alongside perceptions about how effective they are, are overarchingly positive, with one February 2021 study concluding that at-home abortion options are “effective, safe, acceptable,” with further BMJ research published in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Journal found that 83% of patients said they prefer being able to access medicine via post.

Interestingly, further research has indicated that women are turning to illegal measures less, with 88% less demand for pills from illicit providers.

What do you think about the new law?

When it comes to skincare actives, few are as transformative as vitamin C. It brightens the skin, supports collagen and is an effective antioxidant, making vitamin Clogical fit with formulas aimed at improving the look of uneven pigmentation and protecting against damage from external stressors.

12 of the best foundations for dry skin: chosen by a beauty editor with seriously dry skin

https://ift.tt/GBXMgkN

Dry flaky skin? There's a perfect foundation for that...

Estee Lauder, Mac and Gucci Foundations - best foundations for dry skin

The best way to look after dry skin is to treat it with as many hydrating products as possible. That means using a nourishing cleanser, a hyaluronic acid serum, a tip-top moisturiser and the best foundation for dry skin. Armed with the right formula, the best foundation can deliver a hit of moisture to your skin while simultaneously bathing it in a veil of pigment.

It’s all about knowing what to look for. Get it wrong and you might end up with a formula that settles in creases and cracks or makes flaking look worse.

Our Senior Beauty Editor, Katie Thomas, has dry skin and she’s always on the lookout for a foundation that makes her skin look and feel dewy throughout the day. ‘The trouble with my dry skin,’ she says. ‘Is that it’s so often crying out for moisture-rich creams that certain foundations just can’t handle my needs. I often use one of the best tinted moisturisers, as I feel like I’m getting that extra hit of hydration. However, they don’t always provide enough coverage, so I need a foundation that can offer me both: hydration and adequate coverage.’

Preparation is key with this skin type too. Foundation won’t gather on dry patches if they aren’t there to begin with. It all starts with a really good skincare routine. With drier skin types, you want to ensure that you’re using things like a hyaluronic acid serum and the best moisturiser for dry skin. If you do have a lot of dry flaky patches and your skin feels rough, then make sure that you are exfoliating regularly. Something like a gentle at-home face peel twice a week should do the trick.

Best foundation for dry skin 2022

Katie has tirelessly tested all of the below formulas and this is her edit of the ones that truly deserve a spot on the best foundations for dry skin list. She paid close attention to ingredients, how the formulas felt on her skin and longevity.

Rest assured your dry skin worries are a thing of the past…

Prince Harry has opened up about the heartbreaking details of Princess Diana’s funeral

"I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances"

Today marks 25 years since Princess Diana died tragically in a car crash in Paris.

Royal family members, high profile figures and members of the public have been honouring the day by sharing anecdotes and memories about the People’s Princess.

Prince William and Prince Harry’s past words have resurfaced, with the brothers previously opening up on the 20th anniversary about their mother’s death and how it affected them.

Prince Harry in particular has been very open about the effect that Princess Diana’s death had on him, and his struggles with mental health because of it, explaining how he suppressed his feelings for years.

Speaking candidly about his unprocessed grief, Prince Harry opened up to The Telegraph’s Bryony Gordon in the first episode of her new podcast Mad World back in 2017, explaining: “I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of 12 and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years has had quite a serious effect on not only my personal life but also my work as well.”

He continued: “My way of dealing with it was sticking my head in the sand, refusing to ever think about my mum, because why would that help?”

In a past interview with Angela Levin in Newsweek magazine, Prince Harry opened up about his mother’s funeral in 1997, where at just 12 years old, he walked behind his mother’s coffin in a procession through London with Prince Charles, Prince Philip, Prince William and Earl Spencer.

“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” the 37-year-old prince recalled. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

The two princes are thought to be marking the 25th anniversary of their mother’s death privately.

Princess Diana had the sweetest reaction when an assistant dropped an umbrella on her head

https://ift.tt/AIcdHi3

Princess Diana was a true trailblazer, from her iconic style moments to her famous speeches.

She was most known however for her determination to be human, even abandoning the royal protocol of wearing gloves so she could have direct contact with people that she met. She later went on to stop wearing hats, famously saying, “You can’t cuddle a child in a hat.”

Recently, an anecdote about Princess Diana has resurfaced and it has truly proven her to be the People’s Princess.

The anecdote in question came from Royal photographer David Bailey during a past appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show to promote his book Look Again. As he opened up about his career, Bailey touched on one particular incident with Princess Diana as a stand-out moment.

The photographer recalled a photoshoot with Princess Diana, explaining how one of his camera assistants had dropped a lighting umbrella on her head.

“One of my assistants dropped an umbrella light on her head,” he explained, “[and] when she was leaving, she said, ‘Which assistant dropped the umbrella on my head?’ I said [pointing], “It was her’.”

According to David Bailey, Princess Diana was “very nice” about it.

“She went over to her and said, ‘Don’t worry’ and was very nice and said it was just an accident.”

Kate Middleton has revealed Prince William’s "messy" home habit

https://ift.tt/XHcdnLq

The Cambridges are undoubtedly the most talked-about family in the world, and with their roles elevated this past year, it’s hardly surprising that Prince William and Kate Middleton are making even more news.

Whether it’s the Duke and Duchess’ upcoming relocation to Windsor or their gradually introduction of George, Charlotte and Louis to official engagements, the Cambridges are all anyone can talk about.

Kate Middleton tends to make the most headlines, from her candid words on parenting and the royal privilege she was given at Balmoral to her “aura of perfection“. But this week, it was her husband Prince William who got the world talking.

The Duke of Cambridge made news for his “messy” home habit, with Kate Middleton’s words about her husband resurfacing this week, explaining that he is “a nightmare for it” – and we can all relate.

The revelation came about during a tour of an RAF base in Cyprus back in 2018 to open a new recreation facility.

Prince William jokily warned the service personnel to “keep the pizza off the sofas”, something that prompted Kate to dob her husband in as the worst culprit of all.

“You’re a nightmare with that”, she responded according to The Mirror.

These two!

Why people aren't happy about Johnny Depp's "comeback" VMA appearence

https://ift.tt/Xi2faNu

It's one of the first times he's been seen in public since his court case.

You’ll likely have seen by now that the MTV VMA’s were held on Sunday, with stars from Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Lizzo all taking home awards.

Trigger warning: discusses themes of abuse

While one standout moment of the evening was Lizzo’s iconic nod to recent fat-shaming in her acceptance speech, another came int he form of Johnny Depp in an astronaut suit. Yep, you read that right.

The surprise appearence came just after Lizzo opened the ceremony and was, shall we say, short but sweet.

The 59-year-old had his face projected onto the body of a floating astronaut, in a nod to the award shows Moonman-shaped trophy.

In the projection, he looked to be suspended from the ceiling while saying: “I just want you guys to know I’m available for birthdays, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes – any old thing you need.”

He went on to add: “You know what? I needed the work,” as the crowd laughed and applauded.

It was one of his very first public appearences since his and ex-wife Amber Heard’s high-profile court case earlier this year.

At the time, the jury ruled in Depp’s favour, concluding that Amber Heard’s Washington Post article did indeed defame him when she called herself “a publi figure representing domestic abuse.”

Many quickly took to Twitter to criticise MTV for their decision to feature the star, as a prior court case ruled in Heard’s favour. One said: “Honestly f[**]k the VMA’s for including Johnny Depp. the entire crowd of Amber’s industry peers are cheering for her abuser. it makes me sick. the industry hasn’t changed at all. not surprised, but still so disappointed.”

Another said: “But it was defamation when amber said institutions protect men accused of abuse..he’s literally been found guilty of 12 counts of domestic abuse and he’s getting celebrated by the most powerful ppl in the entertainment industry for everyone to see.”

It’s a topic that’s dividied opinion over the past year, with many sharing different opinions on which side to take.

One thing’s for sure – it divided the audience on Sunday. What do you think? Should Johnny have appeared?

Prince George and Princess Charlotte will use different names when they return to school

Earlier this month, Prince William and Kate Middleton confirmed that they are moving to Windsor with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis after months of speculation.

While the couple will retain their Kensington Palace apartment as their London base, they will be relocating to Adelaide Cottage – reportedly just a ten minute walk from the Queen’s residence at Windsor Castle – and an hour’s drive from Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, in Bucklebury.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were previously enrolled at Thomas’s Battersea prep school but will be joining pupils at the Lambrook School in Berkshire for the new school year.

Headmaster Jonathan Perry said he is ‘delighted’ that the Cambridge children will be joining the school and that he is looking forward to welcoming the family to the school community.

But when George, aged 9, and Charlotte, aged 7, join their new classmates what will they be known as?

According to Hello! magazine, the Prince and Princess will not be addressed by their royal titles. Instead, they will be known as George and Charlotte Cambridge when they return to their studies to help them settle in with their peers without drawing attention to their status.

When Prince William and Prince Harry attended school, they followed a similar rule. They were known as William and Harry Wales after their father, Prince Charles’ title, Prince of Wales. It is a surname that they both continued to use during their time in the military, too.

While at Thomas’s Battersea, George and Charlotte were also given nicknames by their classmates. According to Vanity Fair, George’s friends referred to him as ‘P.G’.

And four year old Prince Louis will not only be starting school in September, but he’ll also be joining his older siblings at Lambrook.

How lovely!

This family member has been "indispensable" through Kate and William’s parenting struggle

https://ift.tt/QvwpOt1

Prince William and Kate Middleton may be the most talked-about couple in the world and full-time working royals, but they are also hands-on parents to three miniature royals.

This can be incredibly time-consuming, and while the Duke and Duchess have until now had a nanny to help, the most constant form of support and help has come from a very special family member, Carole Middleton.

Yes, while Kate didn’t have initial help from a nanny, one person who is thought to have stepped up is her mum, with royal insiders crediting Carole Middleton with being a great help for the family of five.

“One of the things that allows William and Kate to be so ordinary is the presence of the Middletons in their lives,” royal expert Katie Nicholl explained on True Royalty’s documentary, Kate Middleton: Heir we go again. “She turns up to help with bedtime and bath time. She is absolutely indispensable.”

Royal reporter Simon Vigar added: “Mummy and Daddy Middleton are absolutely crucial to this story, going right back ten years and all through the courtship. Carole is very involved in the upbringing of George and looking after her eldest daughter Kate when she was ill with this extreme morning sickness. For many weeks, Kate was at home in Berkshire with mum and dad and Grandma Middleton was taking up the strain.”

This will surely continue now that the Cambridge family are relocating to Windsor, with the Middletons a short drive away in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Well, this is lovely.

Lizzo took down recent bodyshamers in the most iconic way during her VMA acceptance speech

https://ift.tt/WBCFO9t

“Bitch, I'm winning…”

2022 MTV VMAs – Show

You’ll have seen by now that the MTV VMA’s were hosted on Sunday – that’s Video Music Awards, FYI.

Stars like Taylor Swift, Blackpink, and Lizzo were in attendance, with all three winning awards on the night.

While Taylor won awards for Best Video, Best Longform Video and Best Diretion for All Too Well , Lizzo snatched the award for Video For Good on the night.

That said, she’s no stranger to trolling and abuse. Just last month, American comedian Aries Spears took a swipe at Lizzo, commenting on her weight. Several body-shaming insults were thrown, including the highly unnecessary comment: “Her music’s hard… but her body ain’t.”

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY - AUGUST 28: Lizzo (L) accepts the Song for Good award from Bebe Rexha onstage at the 2022 MTV VMAs at Prudential Center on August 28, 2022 in Newark, New Jersey. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for MTV/Paramount Global)

On Monday night, during her acceptance speech, she addressed his comments for the first time. Understandably, she has some thoughts to share on the matter.

She said: “And now, to the bitches that got something to say about me in the press. You know what, I’m not gonna say nothing. They be like, why don’t you clapback? Why don’t you clap back? Bitch, because I’m winning. I’m winning!”

In short, the star has decided not to waste energy addressing the harsh critiques and instead focus on all of the wins in her life – from the VMA’s, to the Grammy’s, to the BT Awards.

She’s an internationally renowned artist proving that, while harsh comments can hurt, there’s more to life than letting them get you down.

She teaches a valuable lesson in how to reframe negative thoughts – it’s all too easy to get caught up in what others think of you, especially when you’re someone who exists in the public eye. But seeing the singer handle negativity with grace and self love is inspiring, to say the least.

Not to mention the fact that every body is different, and will look different, and so commenting on anyone’s weight so disparagingly and publicly isn’t cool.

In other body positive celebrity news, just last week, Lili Reinhart opened up about why she slammed Kim Kardashian for her Met Gala weight loss and Kate Moss shared her reasoning behind her infamous “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” mantra. (Spoiler alert: it wasn’t actually hers).

We couldn’t have handled it better ourselves. All hail queen Lizzo!

Prince Harry has "proved people wrong" with visit to Africa, royal expert says

https://ift.tt/J6mQDvd

He's not doing it for the optics, according to Jennie Bond.

Prince Harry in Rwanda's capital Kigali
Prince Harry in Rwanda's capital Kigali

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties to build a (relatively) normal life in California, they have been on the receiving end of a seemingly endless amount of criticism. For example, many people have accused them of chasing the spotlight, with some cynical onlookers implying that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only do work that will make them look good, so to speak.

But for royal expert Jennie Bond, that narrative isn’t holding up to scrutiny right now, especially when it comes to Prince Harry’s latest endeavour: his trip to Mozambique and Rwanda on behalf of African Parks, a conservation non-profit for which he serves as president.

Jennie was surprised with how low-key Harry’s visit was, and is convinced of the Duke’s sincerity in his work on the African continent.

“I am gobsmacked that he could make a tour and pass through London going completely under the radar,” she said, according to Express. “He must have been disguised rather heavily, but I am absolutely astounded by it.”

Even though Jennie believes the trip was filmed, she doesn’t think that this was Harry’s motivation for undertaking it. “I’m sure there would have been a Netflix crew with him but this charity, African Parks, is very close to his heart,” she explained.

Prince Harry has been visiting Africa, and working with charities that provide relief on the continent, since he was 13. This region of the world is especially poignant to him because it meant so much to his late mother, Princess Diana. It’s also where he and his now-wife Meghan Markle cemented their relationship ahead of announcing their engagement to the world.

“His heart is in Africa, I don’t doubt his sincerity, I don’t think this is a stunt,” Jennie assured royal fans.

She added: “I admire that he has shown that he can do his work without a posse of photographers and press, he can run his own show.

“There will be sniping, but I think on this occasion he’s proved people wrong. If this is a Netflix deal then exclusivity will be a part of it but it could be a message to his doubters that he and Meghan really don’t want to be high profile.”

Part of the Sussexes’ reason for leaving the UK in the first place was to escape the intense media scrutiny they were under.

In the US, they have been able to be much more incognito in their daily lives.

Prince Harry pays sweet tribute to late mother Princess Diana on the 25th anniversary of her death

https://ift.tt/KD25Cpz

The prince wants to carry on his mother's legacy.

Prince Harry has paid a moving tribute to his mother, Princess Diana, just days before the 25th anniversary of her death.

The Duke of Sussex paid his tribute as he attended the Aspen Valley Polo club, playing a charity polo match, as part of the Sentebale team.

Harry also went on to say how he would spend the day, filling it with “memories of her work” and how he wanted to share her “spirit” with his own family.

Princess Diana died on 31st August 1997, after a high-speed paparazzi car crash – killing both her and her partner Dodi Fayed.

Delivering his speech, Prince Harry said about the anniversary of his mother’s death: “I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it. I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her.”

Getty Images

The Duke who could be returning to the UK for a surprise visit this month went on to say: “Every day, I hope to do her proud. She was tireless in her work to support and stigmatize those experiencing HIV/AIDS. Fittingly, her favourite flowers were forget-me-nots. I hope we can remember my mother’s legacy by recommitting to those we serve, whoever and wherever that may be.”

Harry, who earlier in the day won the polo match, alongside his friend Nacho Figueras, at the Colorado-based polo club, also went on to score five goals during the tournament. Playing for charity Sentebale, which the prince formed in 2006, as a response to the needs of children and young people in Lesotho, Harry also explained how the charity is helping them.

“In Lesotho, we’re meeting UNAIDS targets, and now over 90 per cent of people living with HIV know their status, 90 per cent of those who know their status are enrolled in treatment, and 90 per cent of those in treatment have a suppressed viral load.

“Yet, the fight is not over and we cannot falter now, especially after the past two-and-half years. So, we thank you. I thank you. And if she were here, I know my mother would thank you too,” he said.

Olivia Wilde explained why she reportedly fired Shia LaBoeuf from her new film

Olivia Wilde attends the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party hosted by Radhika Jones at Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on February 09, 2020 in Beverly Hills, California.

Olivia Wilde’s latest directorial work, Don’t Worry Darling, has had tongues wagging for months now — and it’s not just because it features mega-stars Harry Styles and Florence Pugh as co-leads (although !!!!!).

According to Variety, it’s on the set of that film that Olivia met Harry, who is now her boyfriend. It’s also while promoting it that Olivia was very publicly served legal paperwork by her ex Jason Sudeikis, which requested custody of their children Daisy and Otis, during CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

But something else happened during the movie’s production: Olivia fired the original lead, Shia LaBoeuf, in 2020. Although the official reason at the time was that there were scheduling issues, the director explained to Variety that this wasn’t even close to the full story.

“I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work,” she said, diplomatically.

“His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances.

“I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job.”

Although Olivia didn’t use any too-strong phrasing to explain why Shia no longer felt like the right fit, words like “combative energy,” “safe” and “protect” don’t paint the best picture of what it was like having him on set. Of course, though, only those who were present know exactly what happened.

It’s also hard not to contrast that language with the sentiments used to describe Harry elsewhere in the article. Olivia cast him because she had heard that he was “an absolute dream, and went above and beyond in terms of being prepared,” apparently.

Shia LaBoeuf has since denied that he was fired, stating that he quit.

Stella McCartney Skincare

She is known as an eco-conscious fashion designer and now Stella McCartney is turning her hand to the beauty industry as she is set to launch a skincare line.

Stella McCartney skincare has been two years in development and is due to launch on the 1st of September, with just three products – a cleanser, serum and day cream. The reason behind the small edit is that McCartney believes you should only use ‘what you need’. If you’re looking for punchy acids and immediate results, this isn’t the brand for you, the brand founder was keen to create a gentle range that works in synergy with your skin.

As you’d expect from the designer the brand is completely vegan and cruelty-free, formulated with natural active ingredients and each product has a refill option. It’s been labelled as ‘skincare with a clear conscience’. The bottles will also look incredibly smart in any bathroom.

The products:

Stella Reset Cleanser, £50 (refill £38)
A does-it-all everyday cleanser that will remove the day’s make-up and grime, as well as cleaning the skin. All the while respecting the skin’s natural pH levels.

  • Biotechnological Lingonberry Extract – An exciting superfood with polyphenols to help restore an even complexion and support elasticity and firmness.

  • Wild Harvested Dulse Algae Extract – Rich in polysaccharides which helps reduce the appearance of dark circles and restore an even skin tone.

The range stays close to McCartney’s luxury roots, thanks to the help of famed perfumer Francis Kurkdjian who has created a signature scent for the range. Called ‘High Cliff’, which was inspired by the designer’s love of the Scottish landscape.
