7 NYFW Trends To Shop Before Everyone Else In news that should come as no surprise to anyone, the good people of NYC know how to throw together a *fire emoji* lewk—and especially around the time of that lil’ old event on the fash calendar that we like to call NYFW.  Of all the major fashion capitals, we’re tempted to say that the pavements outside the NYFW shows serve as the greatest proverbial oracle when it comes to predicting what we’ll all be buying for the forthcoming season. And this year did the exact opposite of disappointing—our shopping carts are as excited as our bank accounts are scared, ‘cause there was just So. Much. Goodness. to be had. The inspo didn’t just stop on the streets. Oh, no! Our eyeballs were treated to a smorgasbord of delicious trend-based treats fresh off the runway too (obvs), with 3.1 Phillip Lim, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Sandy Liang, and Tibi taking out our top four favourite shows from the season when it comes to both piquing our interests and delivering on the wearability front. NYFW may be well and truly over, but these trends will be providing us with #inspo for many moons to come. As always, it’s advised that you try ’em out while they’re still haute.  From the streets… Hair Clips Many thanks to qt pie Alyssa for confirming what we knew to be true: hair clips are here to stay. When it comes to masking the fact that you skipped washing your hair or when it is being frightfully unruly, clips are truly Our Lord and Saviour. And, they’re cheap too! SHOP THE LOOK: Okay, I know I said cheap, but if you are looking to treat yo’ self, this GUCCI clip has got your name all over it. If I had you at cheap, you can make your outfit sparkle for less with these Valet glitter clips instead. Kawaii from me and mine to you and yours. Mismatched SuitingWe doubt we’ll ever get suits, given that they make us feel like Diane Keaton and are 100% work apropos. While the suit ~trend~ doesn’t require a shelf-life extension, given that it’s the most timeless outfit on the block, it’s still good to see fashionable humans mixing it up by… mixing it up… SHOP THE LOOK: For all the viewers wanting to try this at home, I recommend clashing check prints as this street style kween has done. For e.g., this Amanda Uprichard blazer paired with these Heartmade trouser pants. Toss a pair of white mules and this Ganni bucket bag, and you are officially g2g. Animal Prints Wowzers. Animal prints really shot to ubiquity overnight, huh? The streets of NYFW (and now the racks of high fashion chains like Zara) are out there looking like a jungle—anywhere we look this season, you can bet that an animal print will be staring us in the eye. SHOP THE LOOK: I personally can’t get past a leopard midi skirt, nor a pair of snakeskin boots. What animal will be informing your summer lewk? Skate Belts We’ve poached a lot of trends from skaters over the years, and now we’re here to claim one more: their belts. We’ve already seen how effortlessly kewl they look paired with baggy jeans, and now this street style honey is out here showing that they can do so much more than just hold up a pair of pants. SHOP THE LOOK: ThisUNIF eyelet belt will look perf worn over your fave blazer, pinky swear. From the runway… Tevas    View this post on Instagram   LOOK 1 – SS19 SOUNDBATH Thankful for such a great team! @heathermaryjackson @oribe @kienhoang @shiseido @playlist_shiseido @_itore_ @plantioxidants @teva @aethernbeauty @mode_pr @elimizrahi @brrch_floral A post shared by Collina Strada (@collinastrada) on Sep 6, 2018 at 3:38pm PDT In a case of art imitating life (or more accurately, runway imitating street style), the velcro sandal trend that we’ve been spying on the streets for the past couple of seasons had its spectacular runway debut at NYFW. To ensure you don’t look like your dad on holiday, it’s advised you a) get a fresh pedicure, and b) pair it with something unexpected up top. SHOP THE LOOK: Treat your feet to a pair of the OG Tevas in black—having dabbled in them myself for a couple of summers now (don’t mean to get all #HumbleBrag on you, but well aware that it reads that way), I can personally attest that they will go with 99% of your wardrobe. Especially if your wardrobe were to include this floral Reformation dress. Long Shorts    View this post on Instagram   MNZ SS19 : @oykubastas styled by @haleywollens casting @midlandagency makeup @markcarrasquillo hair @sassoonsalonofficial A post shared by Maryam Nassirzadeh (@maryam_nassir_zadeh) on Sep 19, 2018 at 2:10pm PDT Who hates short shorts? I hate short shorts! Which is why I am tickled pink by the latest lengthening of hemlines in the short world. Up until now, I have been calling them ‘long shorts’, but a quick Google search informs me that the correct terminology is ‘Bermuda shorts’. How curious. In any case, the weird length of the short is what makes them unexpectedly cool. SHOP THE LOOK: Pair your long shorts with a blazer and strappy heels for night, and a one-shouldered singlet and leather flip-flops for the daytime. Flip Flops    View this post on Instagram   Look 30 #TibiSS19 Eyewear: @moscotnyc A post shared by Tibi (@tibi) on Sep 9, 2018 at 1:32pm PDT In case you feel you haven’t fulfilled your ugly shoe quota just yet, might I suggest opting for a pair of flip flops for the warmer months? It might seem laughable to suggest that they’re “in”, considering they’ve been a beach staple for us Down Under-dwellers since the beginning of time, but they’ve since been given the ~fashion treatment~. SHOP THE LOOK: The key to differentiating yourself from the Bondi beachgoers this year (and ensuring your footwear choice looks intentional) is by contrast. Achieve this dichotomy with a well-tailored suit or a pair of snake skin palazzo pants. Oh, and as for which flip flops you choose: feel all the nostalgia feels with a fresh pair of white Havaianas, or give the classic a good ol’ fashioned update with these Maria Farro Footwear leather thongs.
