Top 10 Looks of 2018 December 31, 2018 at 01:45PM
It’s hard to believe an entire year has gone by! From personal moments watching my daughter grow from a baby to a now 1 year old, Narayan becoming a loving big brother, Dave going vegan (which had a huge impact on my own eating habits), and professional accomplishments like launching another collection, working with some of my all-time favorite powerhouse brands, connecting with you all and so much more, I couldn’t have had a better (and busier) year!
I hope you all enjoyed Christmas last week – I got to spend some much needed R&R at home with the family after celebrating Minnie’s first birthday on 12/24. After a full week of downtime, completely unplugged from my computer, I’m ready to jump into 2019 full-force!
But before we jump into 2019, I’m continuing with my yearly tradition of sharing the year’s most popular outfits, so 2018’s top 10 are below.
Cheers to an amazing year to come, and thank you all so much for your continued love and support, it truly means the world to me. Happy new year!

Did You Wear One Of 2018’s Street Style Trends? We’ve witnessed many unexpected street style trends this year, like the chunky sneakers, we used to poke fun at our dads for wearing, which caused a complete frenzy on the streets and the internet. From Zara to Balenciaga, whoever you are, whatever you earn, dad sneakers are firmly ‘in’ and any memory of dad going for a ‘jog’ in a pair, that cost a lot less than anything on the net, has most definitely been suppressed. We should’ve known when normcore was born. That’s the power of fashion trends, right? We end up wearing the things that we never believed we would try but if everyone’s doing it, why the hell not? The street-style crew pulled off many looks this year (some more daring and ? than others) but let it be known that this is a no judgement zone since there’s no doubt that the whole COH office has definitely dabbled in some of 2018’s street-style trends (see below). But if you can’t experiment with the absurdity of fashion, every once in a while, then where’s the fun in it? So let us know in the comments – which of 2018’s street-style trends did you try? The Most Unexpected Instagram Trends Of 2018 Is it just me, or did you also think that by the year 2018 we’d be wearing space getups reminiscent of The Fifth Element and The Matrix, and wooting around the sky in flying cars? We may have officially arrived in the future, but if a quick scan around the office (and a scroll on Instagram) is anything to go by, ~the future~ is looking an awful lot like my family photo albums from the late 80s and early 90s. Whoever said “don’t look back” seemingly didn’t liaise with the fashion gods, because all we seem to do is look in the rearview mirror when it comes to trends. Which, FYI, is totally okay with me. One of my favourite mantras to live by is, “in order to move forward, you have to look back”. In life, I look back on past mistakes to avoid making them again, in business, I look back on past work to see how I can improve, and in fashion, I look back on my favourite style icons of the past to lift myself out of a style rut (more on that here). Basically, fashion is like one giant revolving door. Just look to the recent 90s redux feat. mum jeans, sneakers, spaghetti straps, teeny tiny sunglasses and overalls as irrefutable proof. Although, it seems that we’re not satisfied with simply glancing over our shoulder. We’re now dipping even further back into the archives for inspo (think Princess Diana meets Grace Jones). So what’s up next? A whole lotta fun outfits, is what. For specifics, scroll on down! Image: @maria_bernad GLITTER This year minimalism was most definitely out, and maximalism came back with a sparkly vengeance. To ease into this brave *new* world, book yourself in for a manicure and use a disco ball as a reference (i.e. ask for glitter nails). Or, if you’re ready to take the glittery bull by the horns and fully lean into the trend, slide on into a shimmery slip top á la dream girl Devon Lee Carlson. Shop the look: If your budget doesn’t account for things like Miu Miu boots, then maybe this Cult Gaia bag can fill the glitter-shaped hole in your heart? Or, let your face be the one to wear the trend, either with these extra Le Specs frames, or more subtly, this Stila glitter eyeshadow. Image: @kiribirii NEON You probably weren’t ready for this, and if I’m being totally honest, neither was I. But our ill-preparedness does not change the fact that neon loudly announced its return in 2018. If this is still feeling a little too 80s activewear for you, try adding just a touch of fluro to your outfit e.g. neon trim socks or jeans, this Off-White belt over a blazer or a bra peeking out from underneath a blouse. Shop the look: this pink tee is perfect for anyone who only wears black, these neon yellow sandals are cute, this Prada clutch is to die for/will make any outfit P-O-P, and these orange hoops would update any French-girl outfit. PRAIRIE VIBES If your Instagram algorithm is anything like mine, your explore tab has been teaming with girls who look like they’re seconds away from skipping through a meadow to commence their milkmaid shift. Despite my general aversion to lactose-based beverages, I am so here for the trend—corset-esque dresses, square necklines and puff-sleeves are as adorbs as they are flattering. BRB, popping down to my local dairy. But first… Shop the look: No modern milk maid look is complete without a lace-up blouse, this equally as ~heavenly~ Jill Stuartsatin dress, a silky shirt to make this trend corporate cool and go ‘prairie’ at the weekend in this Reformation maxi. Image: @maria_bernad OVERSIZED SUNGLASSES Retinas, rejoice! The teeny, tiny sunglasses of early 2018—that served no real practical purpose other than to highlight how we shouldn’t adopt trends just because they look good on Bella Hadid—have been replaced by XXL shades. Other than bringing to mind images of Mary Kate and Ashley in giant sunglasses (holding even bigger Starbucks coffees), they’re part of a growing trend that’d suggest there’s nothing cooler than sun safety. Think larger-than-life straw hats (pioneered by Jacquemus), chic rash vests and high-neck swimmers. Plus, oversized sunnies are the key to hiding your life-threatening Sunday morning hangover. Shop the look: It’s not a competition, but if it was, these Celine shades would win the cutest oversized shades of the season. HIGH-CUT BIKINIS Upper thighs, meet the world. World, meet my frightfully pale upper thighs. Another nod to the 80s, high-waisted bikini bottoms have been the most googled fashion item for God knows how long and now their equally flattering friend high-cut are in and I’m more than fine with that. Pull ‘em up, pop on a pair of cute shades, and you’re g2g. Shop the look: For a one-piece option, look no further than our BFF Hunza G with this super flattering seersucker swimsuit. For bottoms, Solid & Striped have got you covered with these very forgiving bad boys. Image: @maria_bernad ANIMAL PRINTS I could’ve sworn I left leopard print back in 2006 with my leather pants (RIP), but alas, animal prints have popped up here, there and everywhere so the 2018~new~ wave has got me reconsidering my stance. Pair the trend back with casj options like denim, black suit or a white tee if you’re fence-sitting, or mix n’ match it with other neutral prints as mastered by Maria Bernad (here). Shop the look: Sustainable swimwear brand, Fisch, is here with the safari-inspired goods. After a leopard swimsuit? They’ve got you with this smoking hot bikini. Fancy a bag that will spruce up any basic outfit? This zebra basket bag will do the trick. Image: @double3xposure EXERCISE SHORTS This photo of Princess Diana donning bike shorts broke the internet this year. Any trend that promotes comfiness is one that I am onboard with, so the bike short gets two sparkly thumbs up from me. Pair with a blazer and strappy heels for an unexpectedly chic nighttime look, or keep it chic ‘n’ classic with a white blouse. Shop the look: We’ve have got you covered on all things bike shorts, from short ribbed ones to a more modest mid-thigh cut. Image: @alwaysjudging BODY JEWELLERY Finally our ankles recieved the attention they so desperately deserve! If you didn’t save your cowrie anklets from that family trip to Bali in the early noughties, it’s chill, ’cause they’re all over the internet. And the southern regions of our legs weren’t the only ones partying. Belly chains, body chains, and toe rings (pedicures are a NON-NEGOTIABLE for the latter) have made a comeback, just ask Instagram. Shop the look: First thing’s first, grab yourself a cowrie anklet on Etsy (see here). Now that your ankles are happy, fill your cart with this belly chain, this body chain and this toe ring (remember what I said about that compulsory pedicure?). So there you have it. The roundup of unexpected 2018 trends. What do you think next year will bring? Stone Age chic? The 1920s? We’re taking bets in the comments section below, so get casting for your chance to win… the euphoric feeling of being miles ahead of the curve. 8 Items Every Fashion Girl Wore In 2018 If there’s one main lesson we’ve gleaned from 2018, it’s that there aren’t really any rules when it comes to getting dressed. In place of a ‘uniform’, the emphasis was back on clothes as a means of self-expression and showcasing personality, and our eyeballs are forever indebted for all the #inspo they were treated to. While there wasn’t a uniform of sorts, we still clocked our fair share of trends cropping up throughout the year. And a subsequent Instagram stalk confirmed what we suspected to be true: the below are the top 8 trends your favourite fashion girls purchased in 2018. Keep scrolling for some tips on how to make them your own. Cowboy Boots View this post on Instagram ain’t no party like a @prada party A post shared by CHRONICLES OF HER (@chroniclesofher_) on Sep 9, 2018 at 3:08pm PDT Yeehaw. Our style icon Bee Beardsworth argues that cowboy boots are timeless, and while we’d agree, there’s still no denying their surge in popularity this year. The best thing about cowboy boots is that there are so many different styles to pick from, three of which we’ve found for you below! OUR PICKS: Maison Margiela can turn out a cowboy boot like the best of them, with these cream delights being our favourite example of that. Runner-up goes to these cost-friendly ASOS boots or these cute but casj Rebecca Minkoff ones. WEAR WITH: Do as our very own Carmen Hamilton has done, and pair yours with a white mini dress like this cute one from Calvin Klein, and a vintage Fendi handbag for the coolest look this side of the wild, wild west. Bike Shorts View this post on Instagram I THOUGHT MY SEASONAL FLEX PEAKED AT THIS BIKE SHORT + BLAZER COMBO BUT TURNS OUT THE ADDITION OF CLASHING COLOURS IS A WHOLE ASS YES THIS PATENT PATINA BAG FROM @SHOPBOP IS SPRING REINCARNATE AND I LOVE IT MORE THAN U KNOW WOW #STYLEHIGH A post shared by FlexMami (@flex.mami) on Sep 18, 2018 at 2:03am PDT Behold the comfiest trend of them all: the bike short. The athleisure trend that’s been dominating our lives for years now has naturally progressed to the point where you can barely walk down the street without seeing a queen like Flex Mami rocking the heck out of them. OUR PICKS: Pretty Little Thing has got you covered, whether you’re after neon or black. WEAR WITH: During in-between months when the weather is as decisive as I am at a buffet (not at all), then pair yours with strappy heels and a blazer for a primo night-time look, or with sneakers, bandeau top and a coat in a similar colour palette (in this instance orange), for a fresh take on monochrome dressing. Sheer Dresses View this post on Instagram Thanks for making me feel like a princess today @collinastrada A post shared by Courtney Trop (@alwaysjudging) on Sep 6, 2018 at 1:22pm PDT Now that we’ve covered the comfiest trend, let’s get down to the risque-est one of the minute: the sheer dress. My favourite iteration of this trend will always be when a fresh-faced Kate Moss wore a sheer metallic dress with a pair of cotton black undies and flip flops to a fancy event, all items worn could have been picked up at your local K-Mart. OUR PICKS: This Nasty Gal dress seems like a pretty good place to start, or go ALL OUT with this Lee Mathews… If only. WEAR WITH: Your comfiest high-waisted undies! Clogs View this post on Instagram Why are these shoes called “clogs” A post shared by Elizabeth Tamkin (@elizcardinal) on Aug 6, 2018 at 11:11am PDT This year, the streets of NYC were abuzz with the sound of ‘It-girls’ clomping to get their coffee fix in a pair of clogs. Comfortable yet spectacularly ugly, there’s something incredibly satisfying about an audible footwear choice. OUR PICKS: For a clog that will pass the test of time, no one does it better than Swedish Hasbeens (Jane Birkin wore this exact pair). WEAR WITH: A mohair turtleneck sweater and capri trousers for a weekend-away-in-the-country vibe, or embrace the summery boho self you swore you’d never return to with this white floaty dress. One-Shouldered Tops View this post on Instagram weee i got this set forever ago and totally forgot about it, so glad it’s back in the game A post shared by alyssa coscarelli (@alyssainthecity) on Jul 31, 2018 at 7:52am PDT This year the basic wardrobes’ of the street style set got an update and said ‘laters’ to tops with both sleeves, enter 90s one-shoulder tops. OUR PICKS: Par Femme’s range, of course! With the option of a long-sleeved or singlet ribbed top, our favourite ladies have got you covered on all one-shoulder outfit fronts. WEAR WITH: Long shorts like these ones. Dior Saddle Bags View this post on Instagram @pizzaslime A post shared by DEVON CARLSON (@devonleecarlson) on Jul 16, 2018 at 9:21pm PDT The best ever noughties trend returned to street style this year and I can hear Paris Hilton saying, “That’s hot” all the way from here. OUR PICKS: Your best bet is heading to a consignment store like TheRealReal and buying one second hand. WEAR WITH: This cute LBD and a pair of socks + sneakers. Ruching View this post on Instagram très chic @consttantmade #consttantmade A post shared by Emma Rowen Rose (@emmarowenrose) on Jun 4, 2018 at 8:55am PDT For some inexplicable reason, I have become v attached to ruched dresses these past couple of months (also let the record show that I’m similarly taken with ruched skirts and tops). This year, ruching was in the air, everywhere. While picking favourites feels akin to choosing between children, I’ve made my selects for you below… OUR PICKS: For an affordable ~going out~ option, this Glassons cami should do the trick, or if you’re looking to fork out some cash, this Attico one is what my ruched dreams are made of. Also wouldn’t say no to this Helmut Lang dress, if anyone is offering? Anyone? Anyone? WEAR WITH: If you’re going for a shorter dress, slap on a pair of wedge espadrilles, and if you’re slipping into the slip, a pair of strappy black heels should do the trick. Silk Midi Skirts View this post on Instagram A post shared by Marie von Behrens (@mvb) on Aug 28, 2018 at 8:04am PDT The most flattering and versatile trend to sweep the globe in 2018, the silk midi skirt should be numero uno on your list of things to buy, whether summer or winter. OUR PICKS: Realisation Par should be credited almost singlehandedly for the rise in the skirt’s popularity, with their heart print skirt a good example of why that is. Would also love to wake up and find this polka-dot skirt hanging in my wardrobe, btw. WEAR WITH: A good basic and a pair of leather flip flops. I Got A Week’s Worth Of Outfits For Under $300 I love scoring ~unique~ pieces that no one else has, especially when they cost less than my morning serve of smashed avo, don’t contribute to landfill, and mean I’m also giving back to a great cause like the Salvation Army. Sure, vintage shopping in Paris is très amazing, but if you’re not up for the 24-hour journey, why not look to your own backyard? You might just strike gold at your local thrift store, like I did on a recent shopping spree at Salvos, where I managed to find an entire week’s worth of outfits for under $300. Trust me, it’s a helluva lot cheaper than a trip to France, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much treasure you can find if you know how to look. Dress, Salvation Army | Bag, Salvation Army | Sunglasses, Roberi and Fraud | Shoes, Ancient Greek Sandal Plus (thanks to the rebirth of 90s style), there may have never been a better time to hit up your local charity store for a whole new wardrobe. Spice up your op shop-sourced looks with your signature jewellery and cute sunglasses, and no one will be able to tell that your entire outfit cost less than a pineapple note. The key to thrifting like a pro is to not getting overwhelmed—you need to be able to easily navigate the room, deciphering between trash and treasure, without getting hot and bothered and/or collapsing in a heap. To find out how to achieve this, get reading below… Blazer, Salvation Army | T-Shirt, Salvation Army | Pants, Salvation Army | Bag, Salvation Army | Shoes, Bally 1) Know your key trends before you go Once you’ve brushed up on what’s hot atm, look out for certain colours or patterns and make a beeline for them when you get there. For example, after a little bit of research, I was drawn to plaid, polkadots, vintage blouses and puffy sleeves, and side-stepped errything else. Dress, Salvation Army | Bag, Salvation Army 2) Look to vintage-inspired brands for #inspo Brands like Rouge and Maison Cleo are all adding modern updates to old classics. So you don’t wind up looking too ~vintage~, to have a look at their insta pages to see which cuts and styles are in—and then seek-out similar ones, like this polka dot dress right here. Top, Salvation Army | Skirt, Salvation Army| Bag, Salvation Army | Sunglasses, Roberi and Fraud 3) Try on as much as possible Things that look meh on the hanger sometimes come to life when you put them on. Grab anything that slightly catches your eye and head for the change rooms. Blazer, Salvation Army | Trousers, Salvation Army | Bag, Salvation Army 4) Go oversize Thanks to brands like Balenciaga and Vetements, you can get away with sizing-up in most things these days (especially blazers and blouses). And definitely do not buy things that are too small, or that require tailoring if you know you aren’t actually ever going to get around to taking them to a seamstress. RIP, all the slightly ill-fitting op shop finds that have ended up in the back of my wardrobe, never to see the light of day again. T-shirt, Salvation Army | Skirt, Salvation Army| Bag, Salvation Army | Sunglasses, Roberi and Fraud 5) Don’t forget the men’s section Slide on over to the boy’s corner—I find they have amazing button-up shirts and jackets. Sometimes even the trousers are great. 6) Have Fun Blouse, Salvation Army | Skirt, Salvation Army Thrift store shopping is the best. Trying on a million different outfits kinda makes you feel like you’re the star of your own shopping spree movie montage, so don’t forget to have fun with it! How to Host an Effortless Garden Party A few weeks ago I co-hosted a lunch with my lovely friend Beck Wadworth to kick off the Australian summer. I promised that I would send though all the details from the set up, so here we go, details! Alongside this I’ve put together a little how-to for my suggestions on throwing a lunch, especially when you’re doing so with a friend, which makes the whole experience so much better! Send out a Save the Date We hosted our party in peak holiday season when there was a lot going on, so we made sure to send a save the date a month or so in advance to lock everyone in. You don’t need to know all the details at this stage, just the date and approx time of day so everyone can keep it aside. Create a mood board Putting all your ideas in one place and creating a visual moodboard is critical to executing what you’re trying to create. You can then refer to it as you go so you don’t stray from your vision. This also helps when you have multiple people working on the same project, so then you all know what the end goal is. I love using Pinterest for this initial stage, this is our pinterest board. Know your Budget Boring! but good to know what we’re working with and to make sure you stay on budget! Location I ruled out my place pretty quickly, as two labradors would have been all over than cheese platter before we could have opened the first bottle of Penfolds. We knew we wanted somewhere relaxed and low key, but not wanting to go to a restaurant or local park. Luckily, a friend of Becks has a lovely home and backyard that she was able to let us use for the event. Decor I was working with a budget so used items I already had and then went to H&M home for a lot of this look, and even the local hardware store! Here is my run down. Base rug: Bunnings Painting Drop Sheet – yes really. Rugs: H&M home Pillows: H&M home Napkins: H&M home Plates: Mud Glasses: Reidel Coasters: RabLabs and other marble coasts Foliage: Eucalyptus (going just for greens saves $, and little goes a long way) Name cards: Beck DIY Gifts for Guest: An Organised Life Monogrammed Notebooks Set a dress code Yeh, I’m that person. But I also find this really helpful when attending other events so I don’t go in OTT or too undone (if that’s a thing) We kept it relaxed with a dress code of: Summer Garden Party (think fresh whites and neutrals) Food and Wine The hero of a summer lunch is definitely the food, and maybe more importantly, wine! We did a dash to the grocer first thing in the morning to stock up on supplies and then Beck was in charge of assembling the platters. Wine time. Summer wine is definitely all about the crisp whites, so make sure you have an esky full of ice close by and that the wine is chilled to perfection! The Penfolds Chardonnay was a perfect choice. Yasmin Suteja On Consumerism And Why You Should Shop Vintage “The worst thing about fashion is the ‘fast-fashion’ culture and consumerism. Shopping second-hand is the best way to go and it also challenges you to think outside the box and come up with outfits that aren’t just on mannequins in chain store windows.” “Expression is the best thing about fashion… you can say a lot with what you wear. I always make the choice to wear clothes that make me feel strong.” “I think you’re born with an inherent sense of style. But it’s definitely possible to learn and evolve too – Pinterest is a good start! It’s certainly not about money.” Instagram: @yasminsuteja Photographer: @danrobertsstudio The post Yasmin Suteja On Consumerism And Why You Should Shop Vintage appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. Wrap Tops and Wide Leg Trousers Top: MerletteEarrings: Reliquia Trousers: Christopher EsberSandals: ATP With what feels like a nostalgic throw back to one of my favourite types of posts I enjoyed editing, here is a look i’m currently coveting, in the form of an outfit collage. I don’t know if i’ve met a black wrap top I didn’t like, especially with a V neckline and balloon sleeves like this one from Merlette. I also can no longer imagine a future of wearing heels and enjoying them, so i’ve embraced flats and seriously believe you can never have enough effortless simple sandals. Harper and Harley

How to Get CHANEL worthy Nails I’m always envious of women with beautiful long nail beds, and without being genetically blessed in this area, i’m forever looking for insights into how to make my nails look and be the healthiest they can. Luckily for me, I was recently treated to a CHANEL manicure by one of the best manicurists in Sydney, who is also an official nail expert for CHANEL, Jocelyn Petroni. CHANEL have launch two limited edition colours for the holidays, so I got into the festive season with the new holiday red ‘Flamboyance’ which has the most chic subtle shimmer. Jumping at the opportunity to pick the brain of one of the best in the biz I asked Jocelyn some of my biggest nail and manicure questions. How long should a manicure last, what are you tips for making them last the distance? Our professional manicures last two weeks as we treat the nail to ensure the polish wears for as long as possible. There are also a number of ways to making your polish last longer including:1. Reapplying the top coat. The day after your manicure, wash your hands and apply top coat. Top coat should be applied after every manicure, every second day for chip resistant polish. The top coat acts as a protective shield and will wear down before the polish does, so the colour lasts longer.2. Push back cuticles whilst you’re in the shower and cuticles are soft and soapy. This way you’re less likely to tear or break the skin and cuticles stay intact. What’s your advice for those that aren’t born with genetically blessed long nail beds? Is there anything we can do to improve their shape? Everyone suits a slightly different nail shape so we always work with clients to determine what shape and length will be best for optimum nail health. We shape nails dependant on the existing shape of clients nail bed, nail curve and cuticle however a shorter nail length is preferred if you like a sophisticated finish. Short nails are classic cool but they must be neat and well-manicured worn with a vibrant sexy shade or sophisticated nude. If you have shorter nail beds then you can wear your nails a little longer. Once nails are painted you can’t see where the nail bed stops and the free white edge begins, so this gives the appearance of a longer nail bed. If you consistently have your cuticles pushed back then this will gradually lengthen the nail bed over time. Best way to care for your cuticles? Should we be trimming them, pushing them back, apply oils, or all these above? Soft cuticles are much better to work with than dry hard cuticles because the skin is malliable and cuticles push back easier. Soften cuticles by soaking for a few minutes in a bowl of warm soapy water. Pat dry and gently push cuticles back with an orange wood stick, which you can also use to clean under the nail edge. There is actually a cuticle under the free edge of the nail too so cleaning under your nails removes this skin build up as well as dirt and debris. It is important not to trim away too much cuticle, as it is easy to nip away too much skin which can cause bleeding and infection. Some salons cut away too much cuticle which can actually make them grow back worse.Because a manicure removes all traces of dead skin, if you regularly apply cuticle oil after your manicure (as the cuticle grows back) it will be smooth without splitting, breaking and hardening. How often should we be treating ourselves to a professional manicure? Ideally investing in fortnightly manicures will ensure optimal nail health. If you are looking to prep your nails for a big event such as a wedding I would recommend 3 consecutive manicures over six weeks where your manicurist can assess your nail condition, perfect the shape, trial colours and get to know the exact amount of cuticle to trim, plate to buff and condition and strengthen your overall nail health. How should we look after thin, weak nails? The best way to care for thin, weak nails is to have regular manicures as they’ll protect your nails, and also nourish at the base, encouraging good growth and strength. What’s your favourite CHANEL everyday colour? Nude nails will never go out of fashion because they are the most complimentary shades to wear, reflecting the natural colour of a healthy glossy nail plate. They always make our hands look their best, at any age. What is your current favourite statement nail colour? I am loving the new Chanel Flamboyance shade for its sophisticated shimmer. Red is the perfect colour for the party season, its rich texture is deep and sexy whilst also being elegant and sophisticated. The key to applying vibrant colours is to prep the nail before painting, it is essential to remove excess oil from the nail which otherwise prevents the polish from adhering to the nail plate properly, which results in chipped polish. Wipe the nail plate with polish remover before painting so you have longer lasting results.Apply two coats of polish, then apply top coat every second night to lengthen the duration of your colour by protecting the polish from chipping and sealing the free edge of the nail where polish tears away first. These Girls Have The Cutest Hair On Instagram When my ex-boyfriend and I broke up, the first thing I did was drastically change my hair. I sat in the hairdresser’s seat, surrounded by little piles of the hair that formerly took residence atop my head, knowing full well that I’d just become a cliche, (but giving the necessary amount of fks for the situation: i.e, none). There’s a reason such cliches exist. Nothing signifies turning over a new leaf quite like a ‘new hair, new me’ situation does. You are metaphorically and literally shedding your old identity, paving the way for a fresh and better one to emerge (kind of like a caterpillar-to-butterfly metamorphosis, but infinitely more *chic*). Changing your hair is fun. It can pull you out of a rut. Something as smol as having a single platinum blonde streak painted along your hairline can make you feel like a brand new woman. Trading in mermaid locks for a cute long bob that grazes your shoulders can open you up to a whole new world of dressing (plus free up all the time you used to spend on grooming in order to chase more fulfilling pursuits), and vice versa. Going au naturel with your curls is liberating. Growing your hair out is rewarding. In all its different forms, no matter how ~daring~ or ~subtle~, changing up your hair is a certified good time. Since it’s pretty apparent that we spend a disproportionately large amount of our time lurking Instagram, it was only a matter of time before we invited you along to witness our unofficial ‘Cutest Hair On Instagram’ awards. If you’re contemplating changing it up when it comes to your crowning glory, need a hit of styling inspiration, or just want to take a break from the grind to stare at cute gals, then scroll on down to see who we’ve been swooning over of late. Cool-Girl Makeup We Found On Instagram (Plus The Products To DIY) We’re all about cool girl beauty because we love to live in our basic wardrobe and this is the foundation for any cool girls’ everyday look. Seriously! You can literally live in a white shirt and jeans and use makeup as your accessory to make a statement. It’s the ultimate “I don’t try (but of course I do)” look. And the makeup is so easy! It’s about getting creative with bright colours, glitter and being glowy from all angles. Things like a red lip or a bright pink eyeshadow… We do suggest you try out one at a time, to avoid looking like Bridget Jones in The Edge Of Reason. For those that haven’t seen it she does her makeup in the dark AND in the car. Let’s just say she looks ‘flushed’. Ok, we hear you… who has time to track down these elusive ladies with perfect boy brows, naturally sunkissed cheeks and one-handed cat-eye flicks and the products they use? The truth is, we do. See below for the trending beauty looks and the products that you need to nail them. UP NEXT: We’ve styled three outfits that you can wear on repeat this party season! Stop Looking. We Found Your Christmas & NYE Outfits 2018 is officially coming to a close which means parties, parties, and more parties. So, a refresh of party outfits becomes a necessity. To save ourselves from flustered outfit changes and an entire wardrobe being emptied out onto the floor, our go-to is a wrap top or dress. Why? Because they’re scientifically proven to be the most flattering, they suit absolutely every body type and they’re easy to throw on (and “throw-off” – according to DVF). The trick to making 1 wrap top/dress last 10 parties? Keep re-thinking how you style it. Change up your makeup and accessories and we promise, at each and every party you’ll feel like a new woman. Choose life, choose a print… or at least something bright and/or sparkly. Below are our favourite wrap pieces (available to shop right now!) + all the accessories to wear them with. As someone who shops a lot, I had to learn many tough lessons in my 20s about what to buy and when. (Trust me, my Poshmark account is proof that I haven’t always made the best shopping choices!)
Now that I’m in my late 30s and I know the value of a dollar—and of a wise purchase—I always keep these things in mind before adding something to my wardrobe. So whether you have shopping anxiety or are a pro, hopefully these tips will be helpful to you.
