Meghan Markle had high hopes to land major BBC job, suggests expert

https://ift.tt/c7nduZP

Royal author claims Meghan wanted three things when she moved to England

Meghan Markle stands up for working mothers in emotional statement

Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry have come under fire a lot in recent months.

The couple – who have son Archie and daughter Lilibet together – have been slammed as “insignificant”, and have reportedly been given a cruel nickname from their neighbours.

But the tough criticism doesn’t stop there, as the former Suits actress – who recently had her Netflix show cancelled – has been accused of dating the 37-year-old royal for fame, as she had her sights set on landing a big job on BBC One’s hit dance competition Strictly Come Dancing, which other members of the royal family are huge fans of.

Author Tom Bower, who has recently penned the book Revenge based on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, told Christine Lampard on Lorraine: “She came to England looking for work, for fame, and also a boyfriend because she was always obsessed with finding an English boyfriend, and the man who introduced her to Strictly Come Dancing was a bit disappointed she didn’t get the job.

“She wanted it. He wanted it, but it sort of didn’t work out.

“But she came back to England anyway.”

Tom went on to describe Meghan’s relationship with the Windsors as “very toxic” and “poisonous”, especially after the couple’s tell all interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, which is said to have caused a lot of upset among the royal family, especially Prince William.

Tom continued: “I think they do their best, Prince Charles and The Queen, to keep it cool but it’s just impossible, especially with Harry’s memoir about to come out.

“Ever since Meghan left Britain and did the Oprah Winfrey interview it’s been really poisonous.”

Tom’s book is out now, and though snippets of the text being released ahead of its 21 release date, the author is confident Meghan will read the full copy.

He said: “Of course she’ll read it, I’m sure she will, she can’t resist.”

Royals fear Prince Harry's *real* opinion of Duchess Camilla to be revealed in memoir, claims royal expert

https://ift.tt/F2qGdse

All will be revealed when the memoir is released later this year

Prince Charles’ relationship with Duchess Camilla, and the breakdown of his marriage to the late Princess Diana, has been widely documented over the years.

Author Andrew Morton’s biography, Diana: Her True Story, as well as subsequent documentaries about the Prince and Princess of Wales have explored the breakdown of their marriage, which saw them separate in 1992 before they officially divorced in 1996.

According to Richard Kay, the royal family are concerned the 37-year-old royal’s upcoming memoir, which will be ghostwritten by J. R. Moehringer and set for release later this year, may not be complimentary of Harry’s stepmother the Duchess of Cornwall.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, he said: “They are particularly nervous about his attitude towards his stepmother, the Duchess of Cornwall, the women who many of the late Princess’s supporters still blame for the collapse of the Charles-Diana marriage.”

Richard has alleged Harry called on friends of his mother to share fond memories of her prior to writing the tell-all book, and while doing so he allegedly made it known he doesn’t hold Camilla in high esteem.

Richard shared: “Five years ago, long before he had thought about writing a book, Harry invited friends of his mother to share memories and private photographs of her.”

Recalling a conversation he shared with a source, Richard continued: “‘It was pretty clear that he [Harry] did not have a high opinion of her,’ the friend later told me. ‘He wasn’t very complimentary about her and I very much doubt he forgot what we talked about that day.’

“It was meeting the handful of Diana’s friends around the time of the 20th anniversary of her death — and hearing their experiences of her misery — that opened Harry’s eyes to what he considered his mother’s ill-treatment, not just at the hands of the hated media but also by the royal household, the institution that Harry also holds responsible for many of his own grievances.”

Harry – who has son Archie and daughter Lilibet with wife Meghan Markle – has insisted the he will be “wholly truthful” in his upcoming book, and he will write “not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.”

Idris Elba’s career has gone from strength to strength, and there’s simply nothing he can’t do.

The 49-year-old actor has proved to be a dab hand as a DJ, as he was called on to provide the music at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, plus he can rap, he has starred in hit TV shows and Marvel franchise, and has recently broken into the beauty industry with a new skincare label S’ABLE with wife Sabrina.

Despite huge success with BBC drama Luther, the 49-year-old actor has his sights set on a new project with Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Idris has claimed he felt a “vibe” with the Titanic star after they hit it off at a party.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “I went to a friend’s party recently and he was there, and we got into a conversation.

“It just felt like, you know what, I would love to work with this dude.

“He’s a really nice guy and obviously he’s an incredible actor but you know when you just get a vibe with someone, and you’re, like, ‘OK Leo, let’s go at it’.’ Watch this space.”

There have been ongoing conversations surrounding Idris taking on the role as James Bond.

It was recently claimed Idris was back in the running to play James Bond, replacing Daniel Craig as the 007 agent.

While it hasn’t been confirmed if Idris will take on the titular character, it has also been rumoured he could appear as Bond’s next villain, although this has also yet to be confirmed.

A source previously told The Sun: “Idris has long been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond’s story and last year was being considered for a role as an antagonist.

“However, talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realised how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research.”

Prince Harry sparks fears of a 'dual attack' on royals in memoir, claims expert

https://ift.tt/Pn6urZg

It's set for release later this year

Prince Harry at a mental health event
The Duke Of Sussex Visits Nottingham To Mark World Mental Health Day

Prince Harry, and his upcoming tell-all memoir, have been top of headlines in recent weeks.

There has been speculation it has been stalled and publication may not go ahead, but it has since been signed off and set for release later this year.

But the contents of the 37-year-old royal’s memoir has been another huge talking point.

Royal expert has claimed the text, which is said to exclude comments on the Queen, could be a “dual attack” on the rest of the royal family.

The Duke of Sussex’s memoir will be ghost written by JR Moehringer, and based on the novelists previous works, historian, Robert Lacey, believes it will be a “powerful and exploratory” text, the Express has reported.

Lacey said: “One would anticipate a book that sets new standards in royal analysis.

“I am hoping [Moehringer] will be analysing the institution as well.”

Moehringer has previously worked on the autobiography of tennis ace Andre Agassil, titled Open, which was released in 2009.

Based off Open, in which Moehringer “demolished” Agassi’s upbringing, Lacey predicts the same approach will be taken to Harry’s book.

He continued: “On Agassi, he not only demolished Agassi’s parenting and upbringing, he had a hard knock at the world of professional tennis.

“Therefore, one would anticipate the same sort of dual attack in what he writes about Harry and the monarchy.”

Publishers at Penguin Random House have teased Harry’s latest venture will cover stories from his childhood, and experiences up to present day.

In a previous statement, a spokesperson said: “In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time.

“Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous and uplifting human story.”

While Harry has previously admitted his book was written “not as the prince I was born but as the man, I have become”.

Tom Daley addresses criminalised homosexuality at Commonwealth Games in powerful statement

https://ift.tt/kVOt7fI

'In three Commonwealth countries the maximum penalty is the death sentence'

The Commonwealth Games 2022 was officially opened on 28 July, with an impressive opening ceremony and speech from Prince Charles, while his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was absent due to mobility concerns.

The evening saw thousands of athletes from the 72 Commonwealth nations arrive at the Birmingham venue where the sporting events will take place, as well as musical performances and dances.

The opening ceremony also saw Olympic diving gold medallist, Tom Daley, promote LGBTQ+ rights.

The 28-year-old diving sensation carried the Queen’s Baton with six other LGBTQ+ athletes and activists holding the Progress Pride flags as they made their way into Alexander Stadium.

Tom also took to social media to share shocking statistics surrounding homosexuality and it is viewed, in some Commonwealth countries, as a crime.

Alongside a photograph of Tom with Bisi Alimi, Glenroy Murray, Dutee Chand, Moud Goba, Jason Jones and Prossy Kakooza, who are all LGBTQ+ advocates and activists, which was shared on Tom’s Instagram account, he wrote: “Tonight at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, myself and 6 extraordinary LGBTQ+ athletes and advocates from around the Commonwealth will be carrying the Queen’s baton into the stadium. In over half of the Commonwealth countries, homosexuality is still a crime and in 3 of those countries the maximum penalty is the death sentence. These laws are a legacy of colonialism.”

Tom went on to praise his fellow LGBTQ+ activists in the group shot, and their work to help raise awareness.

The post continued: “This opening ceremony for us is about showing LGBTQ+ visibility to the billion people watching so I wanted to shout out the incredible six people that I’ll be walking into the stadium with:

“Bisi Alimi from Nigeria. The first gay man to come out on Nigerian national television who is now Executive Director of the Bisi Alimi Foundation, an organisation working to accelerate social acceptance of LGBT+ people in Nigeria.

“Glenroy Murray from Jamaica – Executive Director of J-FLAG, an LGBT rights organisation that continues to push for LGBT+ inclusion in all areas of life in Jamaica.

https://ift.tt/PJRKxEA

“Dutee Chand from India. Dutee is a professional sprinter and the first openly gay athlete on India’s national team. She is competing in this year’s Commonwealth Games.

“Moud Goba from Zimbabwe. National Manager at Micro Rainbow. Micro Rainbow supports LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees fleeing persecution, providing safe accommodation and integration support in the UK.

“Jason Jones from Trinidad and Tobago. LGBT+ advocate who fought a successful legal battle to decriminalise adult consensual same-sex intimacy in Trinidad and Tobago in 2018.

“Prossy Kakooza from Uganda. LGBT+ activist and human rights defender. Works with Lesbian Immigration Support Group supporting women seeking asylum on the basis of their sexuality in and around Greater Manchester.”

The upload has received over 60,000 likes, with many fans reaching out with words of support and gratitude.

One fan commented: “A death sentence because you love someone, sometimes there are no words. You smashed it btw. Much love.”

Another wrote: “Thank you !! Literally my hero!”, while a third added: “Absolutely bright beacon of light!”

The Commonwealth Games will span across 11 days, and sporting aces will compete against one another to be crowned champion of their discipline as there are 283 medals, across gold, silver and bronze to be had, and come to an end 8 August.

The best face serum formulas to help transform and treat your skin

https://ift.tt/psbKul3

Meet the single most important product in your skincare regime: the best face serum

two women close up - best face serum

A lot of people think that the cornerstone of a good skincare routine is the moisturiser. Wrong. The wunderkind of the skincare world is, in fact, the best face serum.

What these little bottles of joy can do is pretty much unrivalled in the skincare world. Even the very best moisturiser can’t do what a powerful serum can.

However, serums can be quite tricky to get your head around. Cleansers cleanse; moisturisers moisturise, but serums? Not so obvious. Plus it can feel like there are about a million different options on the market.

In short, serums treat. Everything from dehydration and wrinkles, to dullness and pigmentation. Skin experts agree it’s the single most important product in your skincare regime and the one you should invest the most money in. Let’s dig a little deeper…

What is a face serum?

Serums can be water-based or have more of an oil feel. In terms of where they sit in your regime, they’re applied after your best toner and before moisturising.

Due to their high concentration and potency, serums are the most effective way of delivering active ingredients into the skin.

‘With a much lighter consistency than your face cream, serums are made up of tiny molecules that absorb into the skin on a deeper level,’ says consultant dermatologist Dr Justine Kluk.

Moisturiser is thicker and sits on the surface of your skin where, among other things, it seals in moisture and all the goodness from a serum into your skin.

When do you apply face serum?

Twice daily is the golden rule, but the serum you apply in the morning should differ from the one you use before bed. You’ll find some work best whilst you’re sleeping, like retinol serums, and others, like the best vitamin C serums, are ideal during the day.

During the day, the priority is protecting against inflammatory and oxidising elements,’ explains Dr Barbara Sturm. ‘This means anti-pollution protection, UV protection, and using a hyaluronic acid-based serum. At night, it’s essential to use active ingredients that assist the body’s repair processes while you sleep.’

Once you’ve applied your serum, follow up with the best moisturiser for dry skin, or one of the best moisturisers for oily skin, depending on your skin type.

How to choose the best face serum for your skin type

‘Make a list of goals for your skin; for example, brightening or hydrating,’ says Kluk. ‘Focus on the top one or two priorities and select ingredients that tackle these first. You can always adjust them as your needs change.’

Ingredients like polyglutamine and the aforementioned hyaluronic acid are great at delivering hydration to all types of skin, while different exfoliating acids – the AHAs and BHAs – can help to brighten, improve skin texture, clear breakouts and even reduce the appearance of redness and pigmentation. Antioxidants are great at fending off environmental aggressors and boosting radiance, and retinol is the only proven ingredient to reduce wrinkles.

Be sure to always apply your hydrating acid serum first, then your treatment one second.

Best face serums 2022

Our beauty team have tried and tested many, many serums over the years and have become quite the experts on what makes a decent serum and what doesn’t. They looked at everything from price and packaging to ingredients and texture. And of course the results.

Here’s our beauty editor-approved edit of the best face serums that money can buy.

Here's how you can help end #SunPoverty this summer

https://ift.tt/XhmZg9J

Sunscreen is being donated to children across the UK for families that can’t afford it. Spearheaded by beauty powerhouse Caroline Hirons and our very own Lisa Oxenham, here’s how you can help...

SunPoverty

The #SunPoverty campaign is back and better than ever. Escentual’s latest campaign aims to get skin cancer cancelled by putting an end to sun poverty.

Escentual’s campaign gives suncare to the children who cannot afford it, while at the same time educating them on the dangers of UV rays.

Did you know? Skin cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the UK. In 2019, 224,092 cases were recorded, a rise of 26%. Research shows that just one blistering sunburn in childhood more than doubles the chances of developing melanoma later in life.

Despite this, many children are going without sun protection because their parents simply can’t afford it.

However, 86% of melanoma cases are preventable with the help of the best sun cream.

“#SunPoverty is such an important campaign. While it’s easy for us to preach about the importance of SPF, it’s also easy to forget that it comes at an extra cost, one that not everyone can afford as it isn’t cheap,” says our Beauty and Style Director Lisa Oxenham. “Escentual have made their own SPF50+ which comes with a keyring attached to easily hang on a school bag and are donating to children eligible for free school meals. Please show your support.”

SunPoverty

SunPoverty – Lesson with Year 2 schoolchildren with teacher Emma O’Nions

The not-for-profit teaches children good sun habits to establish during youth, while providing them the means to do so by giving the Escentual 50ml 50+ SPF to children eligible for free school meals.

Last year, they donated 20,000 and this year the #SunPoverty campaign will up this by giving 30,000 lotions to the children who need it the most.

Escentual.com CEO and Founder Rakesh Aggarwal, organised the campaign, she says: “We believe that all children should have access to high factor sunscreen. It’s vital for their health that they’re protected from the sun, and with the summer coming up, children will want to get out and enjoy their holidays. They should be able to do so without the fear of getting sunburn which can seriously increase their chances of getting skin cancer in later life.

Cardiff-based beauty e-tailer Escentual is also calling on the Government to abolish VAT on children’s sunscreen, as it’s not an optional product but a necessary one.

But, to make this campaign a success, Escentual need your help. In addition to the 30,000 lotions already donated to under 12’s, they will donate one Escentual SPF50+ sunscreen for every one bought. As well as for every Clarins, Bioderma or Eucerin sunscreen bought on their website. So, next time you need sunscreen, make a difference by purchasing at Escentual.com.

Best-selling beauty author, Caroline Hirons said: “This is a genius idea from Escentual.com, and they are trying to get the government to cut VAT on SPF. The suncream is designed for children and it’s got a little latch key on it so you can stick in on their rucksack put their name on the front and it’s under £9.”

Kate Middleton still calls Prince Louis 'my baby' although he's a 'proper boy now'

Adorable!

We love to know the sweet pet names shared between the royals.

Whether it’s Prince George’s sweet nickname for his dad, the Queen’s secret codename, or Prince William and Kate Middleton’s monikers for their children.

While Prince Louis may not have a moniker we know of, the Duchess of Cambridge still considers her youngest child as “my baby”, even though he is four years old, and she has recognised he is a “proper boy”.

Speaking during a visit to Little Village’s hub in Brent, which is part of London’s baby bank network, Duchess Catherine shared the sweet remark.

According to PEOPLE, Kate said: “I keep thinking Louis is my baby, but he’s a proper boy now.”

Prince Louis has started to join his siblings Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, seven, and their parents on royal engagements.

The youngest of the Cambridge family was seen at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, sitting with his grandfather Prince Charles.

Louis, like his older brother, has proved to be quite the entertainer at royal engagements, as he is often pictured pulling funny faces at outings, which has seen him described as a “cheeky monkey” by friends of the family.

A source close to the royal family previously told PEOPLE: “He’s a cheeky monkey — a typical third child. It’s nice that the world got to see him enjoying himself.”

Not only is Louis taking on his siblings quirky habits of pulling faces and entertaining the crowds, but he also has an interest in sports like his brother and sister.

According to The Mirror newspaper, the Duchess revealed that the four-year-old has followed in the footsteps of his older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, as well as his mum, by learning how to play tennis.

While chatting to Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, Kate was asked if Prince George plays tennis. According to The Mirror, the Duchess responded by saying: “George is playing. They’re all playing, even Louis who’s four. They’re all keen.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had 'monumental row' with these royals

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly had a few fall outs with royal relatives over the years, particularly when they quit the royal family for life in America.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were reportedly asked to stay away from Platinum Jubilee celebrations, while reports have emerged claiming brothers Harry and Prince William have had an ongoing feud for many years.

However, it has since been alleged Harry and Meghan – who have son Archie and daughter Lilibet – had an explosive row with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at their final official engagement before leaving royal responsibilities two years ago.

It has been claimed the Harry, 37, and 40-year-old former Suits actor, were enraged at the Commonwealth Day Service, which was held at Westminster Abbey in London, back in 2020, because they were snubbed from the procession last minute.

Royal author, Tom Bower, shared details of the alleged feud in his new book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and The War Between the Windsors.

He said: “Palace officials … decided to publicly humiliate [Harry and Meghan].

Kate Middleton and Prince William want to 'break out of royal bubble'

https://ift.tt/qduG0Qz

What could this mean for the royal family

Prince William and Kate Middleton are hugely popular wherever they go, and win the hearts of the nation on royal engagements.

We recently revealed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had plans to visit America later this year.

The couple – who have sons Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte together – will present the Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston, which will mark the first visit to the States since 2014.

Royal expert believes the upcoming visit is their attempt to break out of the “royal bubble”.

Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie thinks the royals are harking after a “slice of the American pie”, like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who moved to America in 2020 after they quit their royal duties.

In a column with Yahoo! News, Omid claimed a source told him: “William is keen for his work to be seen and have an impact outside of the UK and the royal bubble.

“The charitable landscape in America is huge and he wants to have a presence.”

It is rumoured Kate and William’s trip will not just stop at Boston, but they will embark on a full tour of America, which will see them visit Washington D.C. or New York.

However, this has yet to be confirmed.

Omid also believes the plans to make waves in the US is a result of “competitiveness” between the siblings – who are the sons of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana – as they have reportedly had a longstanding feud for many years, and a view to gain popularity, as Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation has been a big focal point across the pond.

He shared: “I wondered if a little competitiveness with his brother might be in the mix, too.

“Harry’s popularity in Britain may be suffering, but his rise in the US has seen the Archewell Foundation receive huge attention from an impressive list of donors, and his charitable efforts and campaigning has quickly seen him acknowledged by the likes of Forbes and TIME, who named him and Meghan two of the world’s most influential people.”

Gemma Chan opens up about relationship with Dominic Cooper

https://ift.tt/PBoaOIz

They started dating in 2018

hairstyles for round faces

Gemma Chan has previously admitted she likes to keep her personal life private.

However, the 39-year-old actor has spoken out about boyfriend Dominic Cooper, and can’t help but gush about her partner and how open they can be with one another. Couple goals.

The Eternals star has been dating the 44-year-old actor since 2018, and their bond is getting stronger and stronger.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Gemma said: “I am so fortunate to be in a relationship where we can talk about anything.”

In particular, Gemma felt supported to speak out during the pandemic on behalf of the Asian community. Take a look at her Instagram account and you will note Gemma’s campaigns to support ESEA heritage and to #StopAsianHate, as she has raised funds for organisations and penned an essay on her relationship with her father.

Gemma – who is also a UNICEF ambassador – continued: “Dom was very understanding and empathetic.

“I was quite open about how I was feeling during that time, and he was just incredibly supportive. I definitely didn’t feel I had to shoulder everything on my own. I’m really, really lucky.”

Gemma – who was in a long-term relationship with ex Jack Whitehall for six years before they split in 2017 – has learnt to keep certain parts of her life private, but this is something she has had to master over the years.

Speaking previously to Elle, Gemma said: “Over 10 years, you learn the importance of privacy, what you choose to share and what you don’t.

“When you start out, you don’t even know what is important to keep for yourself — I didn’t anyway — whereas now I think there are certain things that I absolutely know, ‘That’s mine and it’s private.’ For me, my comfort level is to have a clear distinction between what is for me and what I’m happy to talk about.”

https://ift.tt/HmYitj7

But Gemma isn’t just in the business to boost her career, but to make changes in the world too.

Speaking of her goals to Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “I just want everyone to do well and be OK. You know, in everything I work on – hopefully I can start to shape things.”
