Shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their tell-all interview with Oprah – which aired in March last year – Buckingham Palace released a statement regarding ‘bullying’ claims in The Times which reported that staff had made allegations against the couple during their time as senior royals. According to the publication, two personal assistants left their roles and staff were ‘humiliated’.

At the time, the Palace said: ‘We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

‘Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article. Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned.

‘The royal household has had a dignity at work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace.’

Meghan responded to the accusations, saying she was ‘saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma’ and her lawyers denied allegations.

Now, the Palace is being asked why they will not reveal details about the findings of the investigation after confirming that the review had concluded.

Instead, they have said that they are working on improving the handling of complaints and amending HR policies but will not make details public.

As reported via Sky News, a senior palace source said: ‘Because of the confidentiality of the discussions we have not communicated the detailed recommendations. The recommendations have been incorporated within policies and procedures wherever appropriate and policies and procedures have changed.

‘So all members of staff, all members of the royal family will be aware of what the policies and procedures are, the revised policies and procedures.’

The review was privately funded and he Palace suggested that any changes in policy or procedure would be shared in the Sovereign Grant report.

The family of Zara Aleena calls for urgent action to end violence against women

https://ift.tt/1cDLhAp

"She's not the only woman who has lost her life like this," announced the family of Zara Aleena. "In the moment of this tragedy, we extend our deepest sympathy and love to the families of Bibaa Henry; Nicole Smallman; Sarah Everard; Sabina Nessa; Ashling Murphy and many more women."

Getty Images

Zara Aleena was murdered on Sunday 26 June while she was walking home in East London.

The 35-year-old was found by members of the public with “serious head injuries” at approximately 2.45am. She later died in hospital.

The “opportunist stranger attack” took place 10 minutes from her home, on Cranbrook Road, Ilford, with 29-year-old Jordan McSweeney charged with her murder, attempted rape and robbery.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday 27 July.

The family of Zara Aleena has released a heartbreaking tribute to the aspiring solicitor, calling for urgent action on street safety and an end to violence against women.

Getty Images

“Zara, 35, a beloved human, child, niece, cousin, granddaughter, friend to all, she was a joy to all of us,” the family of Zara Aleena announced in the statement. “She was a carer for her mother, and her grandmother. Caring for others came so naturally to her. Zara was friendly, she was everybody’s friend. She was everybody’s daughter, everybody’s niece, everybody’s sister, everybody’s cousin. She was pure of heart.

“She was a joy to all of us, her sparkling eyes and the curly, jet-black hair. Her glorious laughter and her sweet, smiling voice. Her tiny frame embodied a passionate spirit and indomitable energy. Zara was brought up by the whole of our family. She was our love in human form.”

Later in the powerful tribute, Zara Aleena’s family went on to talk about violence against women and call for urgent action on street safety.

“She was fierce: she didn’t just survive, she thrived”, read the heartbreaking statement. “She walked everywhere. She put her party shoes in a bag and donned her trainers. She walked. Zara believed that a woman should be able to walk home. Now, her dreams of a family are shattered, her future brutally taken.

“Sadly, Zara is not the only one who has had her life taken at the hands of a stranger. We all know women should be safe on our streets. She was in the heart of her community, 10 minutes from home. We all need to be talking about what happened to OUR ZARA, we all need to be talking about this tragedy.

“These last few days have been shocking and unimaginable.

“In a savage, sickening, act she was murdered by a stranger. She’s not the only woman who has lost her life like this. In the moment of this tragedy, we extend our deepest sympathy and love to the families of Bibaa Henry; Nicole Smallman; Sarah Everard; Sabina Nessa; Ashling Murphy and many more women.

“We must PREVENT and STOP violence against women and girls.

“Our loss is irreparable and the void feels insurmountable but the warmth and kindness that our community has shown is testament to the power of Zara’s spirit. Her life has been stolen from us. She has been stolen from us all.”

Our thoughts are with Zara Aleena’s loved ones.

A guide to all of our favourite Meghan Markle dresses so far

The Duchess of Sussex has an impressive dress collection.

While the Duchess of Sussex may have been papped less since stepping down from royal duties and moving countries, it doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate her past outfits. Here’s all of our favourite Meghan Markle dresses from her Hollywood to her royal days, including her Givenchy wedding dress and outfits from her royal tours and the red carpet.

Meghan Markle style

The Duchess of Sussex’s style evolution can roughly be split into three timelines: her acting career, her years as a royal in the UK and her new life in LA. That’s because each one of these required a completely different wardrobe.

Meghan had a successful run as Rachel on the hit TV show Suits, as well as some film roles, and as a result had to attend loads of red carpet events to promote her work. At the time, she was a big fan of chic pencil dresses, often strapless and in bold colours, as well as short party dresses.

When she transitioned into her role as the wife of Prince Harry and a new member of the royal family, she had to navigate plenty of new rules, especially concerning her wardrobe. For example, the women in the royal family are required to wear skirts that are below the knee, tights, and avoid wearing diamonds during the daytime, amongst many other guidelines.

Adjusting to life in LA with her family, the Duchess has reverted to her California roots, favouring laid-back outfits such as jeans, oversized shirts and floaty dresses. That said, her power wardrobe for business meetings is second-to-none, and she often goes for tonal looks.

Meghan Markle dresses

Much like her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan Markle’s dresses tend to be from local designers and brands during her career as a working royal in the UK. Some of Meghan Markle’s favourite fashion brands include high end labels such as Victoria Beckham, Emilia Wickstead, Strathberry and Stella McCartney.

She also favours high street brands such as Reiss, Jigsaw and M&S, brands with which she collaborated on her clothing project for The Smart Works charity. Of course, being American, the Duchess also wears a lot of US brands and designers, such as Carolina Herrera, Misha Nonoo, Mother Denim and J.Crew.

Since having baby Lilibet, Meghan has understandably taken a step away from the spotlight, however she has made a couple of appearances which we’ve loved. She and Prince Harry went on a mini business trip to New York in late 2021 to participate in Global Citizen Live and encourage wealthy countries to share their vaccines with those in need.

They also attended meetings with the governor of NY, and the occasion called for a sharp work wardrobe. Meghan could be seen in tailored coats and knitted separates, carrying accessories such as the Lady Di Dior bag, an homage to Princess Diana. She also wore a headline-grabbing red Carolina Herrera gown to the 2021 Salute To Freedom Gala.

I’ve included those and all of her best looks since she joined the royal family, as well as her best red carpet dresses from her acting days. Keep on scrolling…

Dakota Johnson has responded to a viral video of her 'spotting' Johnny Depp's injured finger

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial concluded in June, with the Pirates of the Caribbean star winning his case against his ex-wife with the jury awarding him $15m (£12m) in damages. The jury also awarded Heard £2m ($1.6m) for one point on her own counterclaim.

Over the course of the trial, many videos began circulating on social media – from clips of the case going viral on TikTok to recordings of arguments and conversations that the former couple had which were used as evidence.

However, one video that gained traction involved Depp’s former co-star, Dakota Johnson.

The actors worked alongside each other in the 2015 film Black Mass, and a snippet from a press conference at the time resurfaced during the trial. It shows Depp answering questions while Johnson is sat beside him, and fans believe that there is a moment where she ‘spots’ his injured finger.

During the defamation case, Depp’s injury became a key point of the trial with the actor claiming that his finger was severed after an argument with Heard, alleging that she threw a vodka bottle at him. However, Heard testified that she was not awake when it happened and claimed she had taken sleeping pills before waking up to find that he was ‘missing a finger’.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dakota addressed the viral video of herself ‘noticing’ Depp’s finger and said that she was confused about why her name was being linked to the case. She also wanted to be ‘taken out of [it]’, fearing that she would be brought into the trial as a witness (the interview took place while the case was ongoing).

She said: ‘I was like, “For the love of God, why? Why am I involved in this?”

‘I don’t remember that at all, but please, take me out of this. Don’t let this go further. Can you imagine, oh, my God, if I was called to the witness stand?’

The actor added that she was shocked by the world’s fascination with the trial and that the world was watching it ‘like a show’, adding: ‘Humans are so f***ing weird. The internet is a wild, wild place.’

Victoria Beckham has spoken about the Chris Evans interview where he forced her to weigh herself on live TV

https://ift.tt/sE8wQmR

"After I had Brooklyn, there was a picture pointing to every single part of my body where I had to focus on losing the weight from.”

In celebrity news today, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has spoken for the first time about the 1999 interview where presenter Chris Evans forces her to weigh herself live on air.

Trigger warning: discusses themes of weight loss and eating disorders

Victoria was appearing as a guest on Chris’ Channel 4 show TFI Fridays when he began to publicly scrutinise her about her weight loss post-birth live on air.

She had given birth to her first child, Brooklyn, just two months earlier.

Now, the singer-turned-fashion designer has lambasted the presenter and media for both the interview and, further, the intense scrutiny on her weight over the course of her career.

The clip has been doing the rounds on social media and can still be seen on YouTube. During the interview, Evans asks, “A lot of girls want to know, because you look fantastic again, how did you get back to your shape after birth?”

Victoria replies by saying that she’s “really lazy” and “hasn’t been to the gym at all.”

Yet Chris keeps going, persisting with his line of questioning and asking: “Is your weight back to normal?”.

When she confirms that it is, he pulls out a scale and asks if he can confirm, live on air, that she’s telling the truth.

“Can I check, do you mind?,” he says. When she does reluctantly step on the scales, he remarks: “Eight stone’s not bad at all, is it?”

Now looking back on the interview, Victoria shared with Vogue Australia that she can’t even imagine it happening nowadays.

“I went on a TV show with Chris Evans many years ago and I’d just had Brooklyn and lost a lot of weight after.”

“It happened to my mum after her pregnancies. It doesn’t mean you have an eating disorder. And he made me stand on the scales to be weighed. Can you imagine doing that nowadays?”

She continued: “I’ve had ‘Porky Posh’, I’ve had ‘Skeletal Posh’. After I had Brooklyn, there was a picture pointing to every single part of my body where I had to focus on losing the weight from.”

The interview serves as a shocking reminder of how relentless the pressure can be on women to look a certain way – even if it means risking their health to do so. The obsession with losing weight – especially post-birth – is thankfully changing, but must have been incredibly triggering for the star at the time.

Here’s to calling out harmful scrutiny when it happens and moving past the obsession with weight rather than health.

Politicians and celebrities call out the terrifying verdict to end Roe v Wade

https://ift.tt/cVyMYn3

The Supreme Court has announced its decision to overturn Roe v Wade, with the regressive ruling expected to strip 36 million US women of the right to abortion care.

“The Supreme Court has overturned Roe, and decimated the right to abortion in the United States,” posted the National Network of Abortion funds following the verdict. “With this ruling, SCOTUS is allowing Mississippi to enforce its harmful 15-week ban on abortion and is opening the door for state legislatures to further restrict and ban abortion.

“Roughly half of states will outright ban or significantly limit abortion in the next year, and some have plans for immediate restriction.”

The days since have seen mass protests across the globe, with politicians and high profile figures speaking out against the regressive decision and encouraging people around the world to fight it.

From Olivia Rodrigo and Lily Allen dedicating their Glastonbury performance of “Fuck You” to the five Supreme Court Justices who ruled against Roe, to Michelle Obama’s heartbreaking statement about the loss of rights, these are the high profile figures using their platforms to call out the ruling.

Politicians and celebrities call out Roe v Wade verdict

Michelle Obama

“I am heartbroken that we may now be destined to learn the painful lessons of a time before Roe was made law of the land — a time when women risked losing their lives getting illegal abortions… When we don’t understand our history, we are doomed to repeat its mistakes.”

Hillary Clinton

“Most Americans believe the decision to have a child is one of the most sacred decisions there is, and that such decisions should remain between patients and their doctors. Today’s Supreme Court opinion will live in infamy as a step backward for women’s rights and human rights.”

Kamala Harris

“Millions of women in America will go to bed tonight without access to the health care and reproductive health care they had this morning. Without access to the same health care or reproductive health care their mothers and grandmothers had for 50 years.”

Alicia Keys

“This decision is about more than abortion, it’s about who has power over you, who has authority to make decisions for you, and who is going to control how your future turns out.”

Sophie Turner

“Overturning Roe v. Wade is setting us back 50 years, this isn’t going to save any lives. It’s going to kill and endanger millions of women who are going to end up getting backstreet abortions, dangerous back street abortions, and end up dying from it. And if this was actually about saving lives, if anyone cared about saving lives, then after any of the mass shootings that have happened here in the United States we would have gun control. It’s not about saving lives, it’s about controlling a woman’s body and controlling a woman’s right to choose and it’s absolutely fucking disgusting.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

“Overturning Roe and outlawing abortions will never make them go away. It only makes them more dangerous, especially for the poor + marginalized. People will die because of this decision. And we will never stop until abortion rights are restored in the United States of America.”

Barack Obama

“Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues – attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.”

Nancy Pelosi

“Because of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party and their supermajority on the Supreme Court, American women today have less freedom than their mothers. While Republicans seek to punish and control women, Democrats will keep fighting ferociously to enshrine Roe v Wade into law… But make no mistake: the rights of women and all Americans are on the ballot this November.”

Taylor Swift

“I’m absolutely terrified that this is where we are – that after so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights to their own bodies, today’s decision has stripped us of that.”

Meghan Markle

“Men need to be vocal in this moment and beyond because these are decisions that affect relationships, families and communities at large. They may target women, but the consequences impact all of us. My husband and I talked about that a lot over the past few days. He’s a feminist too. And his reaction last week was guttural, like mine. I know that for so many women right now, there is a sentiment of despair. But again, we have to band together and now wallow. We have to do the work.”

Jameela Jamil

“The past 6 years has been terrifying and somehow keeps getting worse. These fucking evil bastards know that this never ends abortion, it only ends safe abortion. PRO LIFE, but only saying abortion has to be decided state by state, but gun laws are protected nationwide… fucking hundreds of mass shootings this year and it’s only June.”

Jessica Biel

“I am enraged. What happened today is not only a disgusting step backward for women – undermining our ability to make decisions for our own bodies… but it’s also dangerous. You didn’t ban abortion, you banned access to SAFE abortion.”

Halle Berry

“I’m outraged! What the supreme court has done is BULLSHIT. Something has to be done! Guns have more rights than women. Stop this war on women & keep your laws off of our bodies. We have to ban together & NOT accept this! We can’t just post about it, we must DO SOMETHING about it.”

Bernie Sanders

“Overturning Roe v. Wade and denying women the right to control their own bodies is an outrage and in defiance of what the American people want. Democrats must now end the filibuster in the Senate, codify Roe v. Wade, and once again make abortion legal and safe.”

Sophia Bush

“They will never end abortion. Only safe abortion. This is not about life. It’s about control. Those motherfuckers.”

Busy Philipps

“It doesn’t end here. Fuck this sham. Fuck these people. If you’re a single issue voter and your issue is your taxes, fuck you too. This Supreme Court is on you.”

Charli XCX

“Just because you’re not an American citizen does not mean the overturning of Roe V Wade is none of your business. if you support women’s rights and human rights you NEED to be vocal about how drastic and appalling the overturning of the constitutional right to an abortion is.”

Justin Trudeau

“The news coming out of the United States is horrific. My heart goes out to the millions of American women who are now set to lose their legal right to an abortion. No government, politician, or man should tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body.”

Elizabeth Banks

“This is devastating news for families – Men and women – who believe the government should not decide when and with whom they become parents. This is not the end of this fight for human rights.”

Keke Palmer

“I’m past disgusted w/ my country and their constant inability to protect one another’s right & keep their word. How u overturning the wrong things? So many things to overturn that make sense. But this is what you chose??”

Jonathan Van Ness

“This is about controlling bodies and keeping people in systemic poverty for generations. It’s heartbreaking that this personal medical decision has been made by people enforcing their evangelical beliefs on all of us.”

Viola Davis

“And so it goes… Gutted. Now more than ever we have to use our voice and power! WE the people.”

Mariah Carey

“It is truly unfathomable and disheartening to have to try to explain to my 11 year old daughter why we live in a world where women’s rights are disintegrating in front of our eyes.”

Patricia Arquette

“This Supreme Court is an absolute disaster. From giving people the right to carry guns to taking away Womens rights of autonomy over their own bodies. We weren’t being reactive we saw it coming.”

Ellen DeGeneres

“Throughout history, women haven’t been trusted. Not to vote, or to decide who they marry, and now to make their own decisions about their bodies. But you can trust we will not let this stand, that we will be heard, and we will get the rights we deserve.”

Padma Lakshmi

“People will still get abortions. These procedures won’t stop just because Roe v. Wade is overturned. This will only prevent safe, legal abortions from taking place.”

Bette Midler

“They did it. THEY DID IT TO US! #SCOTUS has overturned #RoevWade, enshrined in the Constitution as settled law for over 50 years. How dare they? This #SCOTUS is absolutely tone-deaf to the will and even the actual needs of the American people. #WakeUpAmerica”

Amy Schumer

“Give us our dignity or we will take it. This is why we fight. See you out there ladies. Foley square at 5”

Madonna

“Now the Supreme Court has decided that Women’s rights are no longer constitutional rights.
In fact we have less rights then a gun. I am scared For my daughters. I’m scared for all women in America. I am just plain scared. I Guess God Put this on our shoulders right now because he knew that we were strong enough To bear the weight. Strong enough to FIGHT! Strong. enough to overcome. And so We Shall Overcome! We will find a way to make It A Federal Law to Protect Abortion Rights! Ladies are you ready……..,……….💪🏻💪💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿. To Fight?”

Josh Gad

“You don’t need 280 characters today. Just one word: Rage”

Sara Bareilles

“Once more for the people in the back: WOMEN DON’T GET PREGNANT BY THEMSELVES! Why is there zero sense of shared responsibility?! It’s pathetic, and I stand with the masses of you who are enraged and want to fight back. Hand me my armor. #BansOffOurBodies”

Why Jennifer Aniston's comments about *that* viral salad are actually quite damaging

https://ift.tt/kfhQD0m

Do you agree?

By now, you’ll likely all have seen that viral salad that Jennifer Aniston supposedly made for herself and co-stars Lisa Kudrow and Coutney Cox every day for ten years on the set of Friends.

The recipe was revealed in a 2010 interview when Aniston’s co-star Courteney Cox shared that they used to eat the same Cobb salad whenever they filmed together (which was likely often, seeing as they’re best friends and two of the main characters).

@thefoodmedic Let’s try #jenniferanistonsalad 🤌🏼 #foodmedic #nutrition #nutritiontips #viralrecipe ♬ I’ll Be There for You (TV Version with Dialogue) – The Rembrandts

“Jennifer and Lisa [Kudrow] and I ate lunch together every single day for ten years. And we always had the same thing — a Cobb salad,'” Cox shared with The LA Times. “But it wasn’t really a Cobb salad. It was a Cobb salad that Jennifer doctored up with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans [chickpeas] and I don’t know what.”

She added: “[Jen] just has a way with food, which really helps. Because if you’re going to eat the same salad every day for ten years, it’d better be a good salad right?”

The twist on a cobb salad includes bulgar wheat, chickpeas, cucumber, red onion, feta, mint and parsley, and has broken the internet in the past few weeks.

Everyone seems to have been giving it a go at home, from dieticians and nutritionists to working mums and busy shifters looking for a filling, easy-to-prep meal. I myself gave the combo a try and found it delicious – creamy, crunchy and the perfect amount of filling, too.

Yet this week, Jen has finally addressed the viral recipe, saying that it’s actually not the one they ate every day.

Speaking to Elle, the 53-year-old said: “Well, that salad, dare I debunk that? That’s not the salad that I had every day on Friends. I feel terrible because it’s literally taken off like crazy, and it looks like a delicious salad, by the way, but that’s not the one that I had on Friends.”

She continued: “I would never have that much chickpea in a salad, to be honest. Not good for the digestive tract.”

This is where her comment gets tricky. While Jen is known for her healthy lifestyle – she joined Vital Proteins as their Chief Creative Officer in 2020 – she’s not a qualified nutritionist, dietician or health professional, which means making remarks about what constitutes healthy – and what does not – is problematic.

Several qualified professionals I spoke to confirmed that the recipe is a great balanced meal option, full of fibre and vegan protein sources – so a celebrity who’s done no training publically dissing it will likely lead to the thousands of people around the world who’ve tried it feeling guilty or disappointed about their food choices.

Healthy living also isn’t about good or bad, and saying you’d “never” eat a certain food also doesn’t scream balanced lifestyle to me.

With a global reach as big as Jen’s, it’s disappointing to see the star see health and nutrition in such black and white terms and not think more before publicly dismissing it. Sure, healthy looks different on everyone, but let’s leave the nutrition advice to the qualified professionals, shall we?

What do you reckon?
