Lockdown may be over for now, but most of us still haven’t set foot in an office or a gym, so if there’s anything that’ll really pay for itself right now (cost per wear etc), it’s comfy loungewear or workout gear. Because I don’t know about you, but I’m trying to compensate for the lack of walking anywhere with some digital classes, and even if I’m not working out, it’s certainly a comfortable outfit.
Lucky for me, there’s plenty of inspiration around when it comes to Insta-worthy outfits (because if it didn’t go on the ‘gram, did it even happen?). If you’re planning on working out regularly, it really is worth investing in high quality gear, that won’t stretch or become see-through after a few washes.
If you’re going for a stroll or a run, don’t be afraid to layer a puffa jacket or parka over a crop top and leggings, and don’t forget those chunky boots or trainers.
In terms of streetwear, we’re seeing some heavy 80s and 90s influences, thanks to crop tops, clean cuts, branded joggers and retro trainers, and if you can wear the same colour from head-to-toe, extra sartorial points for you. Blame the lockdown if you will, but we are seeing a massive resurgence of anything tie dye at the moment, a great way of adding some LA vibes to your look.
Leotards are hot right now (sustainable brands Silou and Ernest Leoty have some great ones), and they make for the perfect pilates outfit, especially as you can just throw on a cardigan if you don’t want to change afterwards. The key is to have an outfit that will take you from workout to lunch without bothering with having to change, because it’s just too damn on point. That said, it does need to do the job at the gym too.
It’s all well and good looking stylish, but if you don’t have lightweight, breathable fabrics, then they’ll you’ll get overheated and sweaty in no time. Thankfully, both dedicated and high street sportswear brand have got you covered with the latest technologies – look out for ARKET’s newly launched seamless yoga collection and the latest STAUD x New Balance drop. Whether you’re doing a Zoom barre or yoga class, going running or smashing a HIIT session in your garden, there are plenty of stylish pieces that will keep you cool while you workout.
