There’s no doubt about it, the global pandemic has changed the way we dress, if not forever, then for now at least. With WFH becoming the norm, sales of loungewear and pyjamas have risen massively, while suits and tailoring have taken a bit of a hit.
While during those days it can help to still dress up to try and keep as much of a routine as possible and make yourself feel better, sometimes it’s lovely to just stay in your PJs. Luckily, it just so happens that I have plenty of gorgeous sleepwear recommendations for you.
As we slowly come into the winter season, oversized silk pyjamas make for the perfect trans-seasonal outfit, if there is such a thing anymore when you’re indoors all the time, but you get the idea. Cult brand Sleeper have feather-trimmed and lace styles that are so popular they restock them regularly, and they make for the perfect party season outfit too.
You know it’s a trend worth investing in when Alexa Chung gets involved. At the end of last year, the style icon launched a collection of seven individual pyjama sets with with her trademark flair for quintessentially British style. Not just aimed for wear at bedtime, Chung envisioned the collection as a multi-tasking wardrobe staple to wear from night to day.
Further evidence, the street style set getting papped at London Fashion Week. Style note: This season, opt for a silk maxi dress, layered over a thin knit. At home, wear ribbed shorts paired with an oversized shirt or cardigan. I’m also loving long-sleeved cotton pyjamas with a chunky cardigan. Just make sure you go a size up as it’ll look more expensive.
Feeling decadent? For designer sleepwear, head to our favourites Desmond & Dempsey, Three Graces, Agent Provocateur, Olivia Von Halle and La Perla, where you’ll find everything from luxurious lace-trimmed silk slips to short linen suits.
If you’re on a tighter budget, don’t worry. The high street has plenty to offer too. Topshop, Intimissimi and next all have a great selection of affordable nightwear, ranging from minimal nighties to printed separates.
Whilst last season was all about pops of colour and pastels, for AW20 I’m loving earthy tones of beige, grey and green. There is a sleepwear style to suit all, so scroll down to shop my edit of the best summer pyjamas, nighties, and shorts and shirt sets around.
