4 Reasons Why Granola Should Always Be in Your Cabinet March 26, 2019 at 12:45PM
Back in 2017 when my husband adopted a vegan lifestyle, it had a profound effect on my health as well. Not only did I end up losing weight without any effort, but his food choices helped me become much more aware of my own food choices, especially breakfast.
After trying granola for the very first time, I liked it so much that I immediately swapped my daily orange juice based smoothie, turkey bacon and toast breakfast I had eaten every single day for 8+ years, for french vanilla and almond granola with soy milk. Now this is what both Dave and I eat for breakfast every morning, even when we travel!
Having a healthy breakfast every morning and keeping smart snacks on hand are a must for keeping your energy levels up and curbing cravings for unhealthy foods during the rest of the day. But you don’t have to cook up a full meal to make these changes to your daily diet — something quick and easy works, too. That’s why granola has been a major go-to for me since late 2017. Every morning I start my day by eating granola as cereal with soy milk, and I often use it in acai bowls as an afternoon or evening snack.
Here are 4 reasons why you should add granola to your go-to food stash:

Spring’s Unexpected Must-Have Jacket March 19, 2019 at 12:45PM
With spring officially here, I’ve been looking for new additions to my jacket collection that feel fresh and unexpected. Bold colors and prints are always head-turners, but this season, I’ve actually been wearing an under-the-radar classic on repeat. That’s right, I’m talking about tweed!
Yes, tweed can sometimes look like something out of the back of your grandmother’s closet — a little dated and too stuffy for everyday. And while grandmas are pretty cool, that’s not always the look you’re going for! So, how do you update it?
For spring, I’ve been trying new spins on the classic that are fresh, modern, and anything but out-of-date. Streamlined silhouettes obviously take center stage, but even if you’re wearing a vintage tweed jacket, the key is to pair it with pieces that are trend-forward and current, to balance any potential stuffiness tweed is usually associated with.
One of my favorite looks this year has been a tweed blazer paired with jeans and a point-toe pump for meetings or date nights. It’s chic and current, yet the tweed adds a sophistication and polish that feels classic and timeless. For work, try a tweed jacket with a pencil skirt and heels. For casual weekends, pair a dress with a tweed jacket draped over your shoulders. It’s proof that an old classic can learn new tricks!

The best eye cream to combat dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles (and make you look more awake)
Time to wave goodbye to tired eyes, banish bags and beat puffiness for good
Trying to find the best eye cream for you can be an overwhelming and, frankly, exhausting experience. How do you know what concern to target? How often should you use one? What’s the right way to apply?
There are so many questions that we thought it best to ask an expert. We grilled Consultant Dermatologist Dr Justine Kluk on all things eye creams, and this is what she had to say…
What’s the best way to apply eye cream?
Put a small amount of product on a clean fingertip and smooth below the eye, over the crow’s feet area and pat onto the brow bone just below your eyebrows. I would tend not to apply any cream with active ingredients directly to the upper eyelid as there is a high risk of causing irritation. Moisturising eye creams are of course absolutely fine.
Why do we need a separate cream for our eyes?
The skin around our eyes is very much thinner than anywhere else on our bodies. This means that products are absorbed much more readily and adaptations may be needed to the products we use elsewhere on our faces or bodies as the risk of irritation is much higher. Certain ingredients may also need to be avoided so close to the eyes. The same goes for other other eye products. I would recommend using a gentle micellar water or dedicated eye makeup remover for taking off makeup and avoiding vigorous rubbing. Protect the eyelid skin with SPF in Spring and Summer and wear sunglasses to avoid squinting. Moisturise the skin twice daily or use a dedicated eye cream tailored to your specific needs. If any redness, itching or flaking occur, stop using the product.
What are dark circles? What causes them? Is there a difference between hereditary dark circles and other bags?
Some of the more common concerns I hear from patients about the eye area are dark circles and hollowing beneath the eyes. As well as smoothing wrinkles, products containing retinol or peptides can also help minimise dark circles by boosting collagen and plumping skin thickness if they are caused by thin skin exposing underlying vascular structures. This is often a feature of skin ageing, but in some cases translucency of the under eye skin can be hereditary. Retinol-based creams may also help with dark circles due to increased skin pigmentation, which is more common in skin of colour, and Vitamin K oxide can help with purplish discolouration from blood vessels.
What ingredients should you look for in an eye cream?
For dry, crepey skin around the eyes, products containing humectant ingredients like hyaluronic acid can give the skin a smoother, less lined appearance and increase comfort.
Eye creams with retinyl palmitate (a vitamin A derivative) stop sugars sticking to and inactivating collagen to reduce dark circles, fine lines and puffiness.
Don’t panic, we don’t expect you to just go out and find one now; we’ve scoured the beauty halls and trialled an almighty selection of the latest offerings to bring you a select edit of the best out there. So you can rest assured that your hard earned pennies are only spent on the ones that really work.
If you’re dubious about the necessity of an eye cream in your regime, consider what Justine said about the delicacy of the skin around your eyes; it’s 40% thinner than the rest of your face, which is why it’s so important to use a cream tailored to the area. It’s this delicacy that makes your eyes prone to crêpe-ness, creasing and crows feet long before the rest of your face. Not only is skin thinner but research has shown it’s also subjected to ‘repetitive stress from micro-eye movements’ – AKA blinking, which we do on average over 28,000 a day.
Keep scrolling to see our edit of the best eye cream for every concern and, remember: when it comes to application tap in the product using your ring finger (your weakest finger). Don’t rub.

My Neutral Bedroom After travelling over the last couple of weeks I’m so excited to come home and sleep in our new bed! We’re renovating our home this year (and to be honest, probably for the next few years!) and our palette is turning towards warm neutrals, timber and natural surfaces while keeping to a minimal yet homely decor. After working with King Living and revamping our living room with a beautiful new lounge, which completely changed the vibe of the space for the better, I was so excited to work with them again on our master bedroom with a new King bed. Because we love our couch fabric so much and we’re trying to keep a consistent warm neutral aesthic, we decided to go with the same fabric for our bed head and base. The style of the bed is Promenade which was decided on because I love a bed head, but I didn’t want it to be the feature of the room, and the fabric base is so softening to the space, but to be honest the real highlight is the under bed storage! We also went with their mattress, and it’s like going to bed in a hotel bed every night, which is heaven for someone like me who prioritises their sleep. Nothing To Wear? Here’s A Week’s Worth Of Outfits Nothing to wear? No problem. If you change your outfit a billion times before leaving the house and your wardrobe often takes shape on the floor (or chairs/desks/anywhere other than on your body or in your closet), it’s time to rethink what you’re buying and consider having a quick cull. Less really is more! When I shop online I plan at least two outfits in my head before I even consider hitting that ‘BUY NOW’ button. Start well/end well, right? I stick to timeless colours like black & white (they go with everything!), darker shades of denim (easier to dress-up) and I like to add pops of red (lipstick, nails or shoes) because that’s what all my favourite fashion-girls do. It’s small touches like this or cute accessories that give an easy, everyday outfit a cool and unique edge. The older we get, the less time we have and frankly, “adulthood is responsibility” (thanks Grey’s Anatomy). Luckily for you (and me!), part of my job is to scour the internet for outfits. Below are 7 fail-safe looks that you can rely on to go with your existing wardrobe, plus a spurge & save option for each. Whatever your budget – I’ve got your back! STRIPES & SNEAKERS This outfit will take you from work to weekend and beyond. Let your inner French-girl out to play with this timeless striped shirt. Wear it with suit-trousers, jeans or a black skirt (all pieces you’re bound to own already). Styling sneakers with formal skirts is a street style trick that makes evening attire suitable for the day (whether you’re at the office or a Sunday brunch! SPLURGE $$$ STRIPED SHIRT, TORY BURCH | MIDI SKIRT, GANNI | SNEAKERS, GOLDEN GOOSE | HANDBAG, MANSUR GAVRIEL SAVE $ STRIPED SHIRT, ASOS WHITE | MIDI SKIRT, NASTY GAL | SNEAKERS, ADIDAS | HANDBAG, JEAN LOUIS SCHERRER BEACH TO BAR AND BEYOND If your office isn’t corporate, you could definitely get away with this outfit in the summer. If you want to show a little less skin, layer the slip dress over a t-shirt. Alternatively, this is an ideal day-to-night, summer look. Pop a bikini underneath and you’re good to hit the beach. Just swap out the slides for a block heel and you’re ready to commit murder on the dance floor! A statement bag is always worth the investment; it will single-handedly reinvigorate any boring outfit. SPLURGE $$$ SLIP DRESS, VINCE | SLIDES, ANCIENT GREEK | HANDBAG, LOUIS VUITTON SAVE $ SLIP DRESS, NEED SUPPLY | SLIDES, ASOS | HANDBAG, ASOS PARISIAN UNIFORM Every closet needs reliable staples like a white collared shirt. It instantly lets the world know you’ve got your sh*t together and is the ultimate smart/caj piece, whether styled with denim or a suit. Black sock boots are flattering and will be your go-to shoes, as I cannot for the life of me think of any outfit you couldn’t wear them with. Bright nails are a great way to bring colour to an outfit, particularly if you’re generally more at home in monochrome. SPLURGE $$$ WHITE SHIRT, EMMA WILLIS | DARK DENIM JEANS, FRAME | SOCK BOOTS, PRADA | RED NAIL POLISH, GUCCI SAVE $ WHITE SHIRT, ARKET | DARK DENIM JEANS, MANGO | SOCK BOOTS, ASOS | RED NAIL POLISH, RIMMEL SEÑORITA Blouses look so damn good with espadrille wedges – all the ‘It’ girls do it, so let’s roll with it. Stick to black or white (you’ll wear them more often) and let the puff sleeves or ruffles do the talking. These Fiorucci jeans are iconic; you’ll never get sick of them and they’ll hold their worth (should you wish to sell them on one day). The famous angel patch is a cute touch that’s an accessory in itself, making these the go-to jeans if you want to spice up a bland outfit. SPLURGE $$$ BLOUSE, PROENZA SCHOULER | JEANS, FIORUCCI | ESPADRILLES, CASTANER | BASKET, CLARE V. SAVE $ BLOUSE, GANNI | JEANS, & OTHER STORIES | ESPADRILLES, NASTY GAL | BASKET, ASOS WHAT’S COOLER THAN BEING COOL? UMM… BEING WARM Puffer jackets are everywhere and opting for a style like this will keep you a) warm and b) looking chic. There’s nothing Michelin man about Moncler. Kick flare or wide leg black pants are more cool than corporate (but can still be corporate if you so wish!), and as far as I’m concerned, every woman should own red shoes – c’mon, they’re timeless. Need proof? Check all the movies about them. SPLURGE $$$ PUFFER JACKET, MONCLER | BLACK TROUSERS, 3.1 PHILLIP LIM | RED SHOES, MARTINIANO | GOLD EARRINGS, LAURA LOMBARDI SAVE $ PUFFER JACKET, HUNTER | BLACK TROUSERS, & OTHER STORIES | RED SHOES, HOGL | GOLD EARRINGS, ASOS BACK IN BLACK A blazer dress is versatile as it can be worn in multiple ways for every occasion. Choosing a dress with gold hardware will toughen up your look and also keep things chic. Double-breasted anything is flattering but also looks expensive (and doesn’t have to be!) Black outfits + high boots = bringing sexy back. Invest in cowboy boots or 60s style flat boots; they’re classic, versatile and more comfortable. SPLURGE $$$ BLAZER DRESS, BALMAIN | COWBOY BOOTS, GANNI | HANDBAG, LOEWE SAVE $ BLAZER DRESS, FARROW | HIGH BOOTS, & OTHER STORIES | HANDBAG, MANGO KNITWEAR & CHILL Personally, I used to find knitwear tricky as I think it often gives me a flu-patient-in-recovery/that time of the month look, probably because I live in denim (jeans + jumper = not that chic). The discovery that a coloured knit actually elevates an outfit was game-changing, particularly given the weather’s constant identity crisis. White boots are ‘hot right now’ and make a statement (without being too statement) – def to be tried with your everyday tee/jeans combo. SPLURGE $$$ KNIT, ROSETTA GETTY | JEANS, RAEY | WHITE BOOTS, BY FAR | HANDBAG, A.P.C SAVE $ KNIT, VERO MODA | JEANS, BAUKJEN | WHITE BOOTS, M.N.G | HANDBAG, JACQUEMUS What are your go-to outfits when you have nothing to wear? Real Talk: Getting Older Is the Best Thing Ever March 05, 2019 at 01:45PM
Before I turned 21, I can remember anticipating each birthday with excitement. Then something happens once you turn 22, am I right? The years just seem to pile on like a ton of bricks and you feel weighed down by life — things you didn’t do, couldn’t do or are too afraid to do.
I turned 38 yesterday, and I honestly think this is the first birthday ever that I’ve truly embraced getting older, wholeheartedly!
At 38, I consider every experience an opportunity to learn vs. good or bad.
I finally feel at peace within myself, knowing that I’ve found my own definition of balance, when it comes to eating healthy while still thoroughly enjoying what I’m eating.
