Sydney Hartzell On Interning At Glossier “I’m currently a student at NYU, studying the intersections of business, psychology and computer science. I couldn’t be more grateful for my interning experience at Glossier. The team was a community of mentors and friends who constantly inspired me. Emily Weiss is incredibly authentic and driven, it clearly shines through in everything she does. Startups are fascinating to me because they’re dynamic and collaborative—every day brings new challenges, I find that very rewarding. Gaining first-hand experience in any field is incredibly important. “I’m a HUGE fan of ITG, so I’m always reading about new tips and tricks. One of my faves is putting moisturiser in the fridge so it’s really cooling when you put it on. I have super sensitive and dry skin, so I like gentle products that hydrate. I’m consistent with my products and don’t change them often because I know they work for me. I love Bioderma to remove makeup, Milky Jelly Cleanser to clean my skin, and the original La Mer moisturiser. I use Glossier concealer under my eyes, CoverGirl Lashblast mascara, Glossier Haloscope in moonstone or topaz, and a tinted lip balm on my lips and cheeks. Sometimes I’ll use Mac lipstick in Paramount. It’s my favourite shade because Jennifer Aniston wore it in Friends. On weekends, I’ll try a smokey eye or bright lip if I’m feeling experimental, however I usually feel more comfortable wearing less makeup. Oh, and sunscreen is always in style.” Instagram @sydneyhartzell | Photographer @georgiewoodweber The post Sydney Hartzell On Interning At Glossier appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. Jai Kaldor

Calvin Klein Makes The 90s-Inspired Basics Of Our Dreams Ahoy, good people of the internet! Today we come bearing great news for those who log onto the World Wide Web daily over here in the Southern Hemisphere. Drum roll, please… Calvin Klein, aka the makers of the best ever denim and the coolest campaigns, just launched their online store in Australia and excuuuuse my fingers while they frantically open up a million different tabs, scoping all the things I wanna buy. Which, FYI, is a lot. It’s as if they peeped into our brains and realised we wanted more 90s-inspired basics, and then curated a store that satisfies that exact want/need. With the help of my fellow COH’ers, I whittled the list of must-buy items down to 8, which are categorised in no order of importance for you below. Don’t thank me, thank the CK gods. But why are you still here? It’s time to shop like it’s 1995… Swimmers View this post on Instagram Making waves: @erika_boldrin wears the red hot Core Neo suit from #CALVINKLEIN. The Best Vintage Stores To Follow On Instagram My love of thrift stores began as a spring chicken growing up in a small town on Australia’s sunny east coast. In lieu of any clothing store options beyond Suprè and surf shops, I was forced to get creative when feeding my burgeoning shopping addiction. And so, each weekend, me and best friend would pile into her old Subaru and hit the streets in search of some pre-loved finds to call our own. The reasons why I prefer to shop second-hand over new have largely remained the same to this day. There’s no greater thrill than finding an on-trend piece or a unique buy for less than the cost of lunch, it’s fun, and it’s a more much sustainable way to fatten up your wardrobe. Also, it tickles me to imagine the different lives my clothes have lived. Did I mention how good it is for the environment? Since I’m still living like it’s 2005 (by doing the bulk of my thrift shopping IRL), I leaned on my Insta-savvy cohort Georgie to help curate the below list of the best vintage stores on Instagram. In a way this is somewhat of a self-serving exercise. Girl can turn out a lewk like no other, and since she’s probably sick of me asking, “OMGGG where did you get that?” a milli times a week, I thought I’d steal all her secrets and put them all into one place, not only for the benefit of my own wardrobe, but for the greater good of society at large. The Ultimate Guide To Getting Dressed With Thalea Michos-Vellis “Hello COH, My name is Thalea! I am a fashion stylist and fashion collector. I am a third generation Australian-Greek living in Melbourne’s North with two cats and a collection of archival fashion magazines. “I am 100% influenced by my surroundings. During my (very) formative years—that time just after high school and before you realise you are an adult—I spent a bit of time going back-and-forth from Tokyo to Melbourne. I experimented with my style then and was finally able to have access to so much fun fashion, and pieces that I had only ever seen on the internet. I think this accompanied with the thrift shopping I did growing up really helped me work out my own way to assemble an outfit, as I was never one to buy a full look from the same current collection. “Not as many people get dressed up here in Melbourne. I feel that because of how casual day-to-day style is here, I have incorporated lots of pattern and colour to basic silhouettes—like a fun bag or a printed shirt. We also have such a nice creative community in Melbourne, as well some awesome designers like Poms Eyewear and Maroske Peech!” The post The Ultimate Guide To Getting Dressed With Thalea Michos-Vellis appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. The COH Team On Their Daily Skincare Routines Back in my teens and early 20s, when I was a time-millionaire with smooth skin and a reckless aversion to treating my body with the R-E-S-P-E-C-T it deserved, I didn’t bother with things like curating a skincare routine. I was lucky if I moisturised twice-daily and I may have used soap in lieu of a cleanser on more than one occasion. He he. My skin lived off a strict diet of whatever products a) my mum gave me for Christmas, b) were available to purchase from my local supermarket, or c) my housemates at the time left in the shower at the time. It’s not my proudest chapter, but we all have our skeletons. Slowly, as the heavy hand of ageing began to slap down on my face, all of that began to change. Now, in my twenty seventh year of bumbling about Earth, I am the kind of person who finds joy in sniffing out new serums and penciling in for chemical peels. I have a skincare routine that involves in excess of two products and spans various price points. Tantamount to this, I have become a bit of a busy body when it comes to finding out what other people religiously. I lap that sh** up like my Grandma does the television show 60 minutes—that is, fanatically. Given my newfound #obsession with skincare and other people’s regimes, I peeped into the beauty cabinets of my fellow COH-ers, and emerged with four (very different) product-laden skincare routines (including mine) that will give you all sorts of glowing, plumped-up skin. For some hot new product tips and tricks or, to really tap into your voyeuristic side, it’s advised you read on… Carmen, Founder What does your daily skincare routine look like? I’m very (potentially too) low-key when it comes to my skin. Any regime that involves more than three steps leaves me feeling like I’ve set myself up for failure (because I can never stick to it for longer than a week). My essentials steps involve removing make-up with Simple Micellar Water or Dermalogica’s Pre-Cleanse Balm (for heavier make-up), a deep cleanse with Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and then a thick layer of Dermalogica Calm Water Gel moisturiser. What product do you reach for when your skin is feeling ‘meh’? If my skin is feeling super ‘meh’, I’ll do a face mask. On the weekend, I’ll use Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask mixed with apple cider vinegar to purify my skin and prevent breakouts, or before an event I’ll pop on the Estée Lauder Power Foil Mask (it literally brings your skin back to life in 10 minutes!). Beyond that, I always find that a small amount of face tanner works wonders if you’re looking for a quick fix heading in to the weekend. I use Ella Bache Great Tan Without Sun. What’s your favourite cost-friendly product, and what do you tend to splurge on? IMO, the best product you can buy on a budget is the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask ($12 from Target, and it will last you a lifetime), or Simple Micellar Water (especially if you have sensitive skin). For a splurge, I do love the Estèe Lauder Advanced Night Repair (can you tell by now that I’m a creature of habit?). Next on my list to try is… Weleda Skin Food (I’ve heard so many great things, and it’s SO cheap). Madeleine, Content Editor What does your daily skincare routine look like? My skincare regime is heavily centred on hydration, but I still reckon cleansing is one of the most important/underrated steps. It’s also the first one! So here goes! I use Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel each morning and night (although, I’ll sometimes sub in the UltraCalming Cleanser if my skin feels overwhelmed/sensitive). Every second or third day (or when my skin feels rough), I’ll mix in the Daily Microfoliant for an extra scrub. I try to be gentle and pat my face to dry it. On the rare occasion that I am energised enough to wear mascara, I’ll precede this all with a splishy splash of micellar water (whatever is on hand, not fussy at all). Once my skin is squeaky clean, it’s time to lather on illegal amounts of moisture…Morning: First up, a lil’ life-affirming spritz of the Dermalogica UltraCalming Mist before I add serum. I made the (great, beautiful, skin-changing) mistake of trialling the Dr Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum and now I’ll never be satisfied with anything else. For anyone who can afford to fork out in excess of $400 for a serum, I promise you that it’s good. Like realllllyyyy good. The best even. For everyone else, there’s the Glossier Super Bounce Serum, which I’ve been using ever since our recent trip to NYC, and which I find is yielding similar results (but at a teeny, tiny fraction of the cost). I also love to sub in The Ordinary Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. Night: I predominantly use the Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream or the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque (which is meant to be washed off, but I sleep in it, ’cause #MOISTURE) but also LOVE the Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Oil, which I use quite sporadically (and come to think of it, probably not half as much as I should). I use the Drunk Elephant C-Tango Eye Cream both in the AM and PM, too, and the aforementioned mist/serum liberally before applying my cream. What product do you reach for when your skin is feeling ‘meh’? If my skin is dehydrated, I’ll scull as much water as possible and hit the herbal teas, then pop on a face mask (my favourite is the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mask), and if my skin is feeling particularly rouge/rogue, I’ll use the Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque. What’s your favourite cost-friendly product, and what do you tend to splurge on? Call me cray, but I am low-key obsessed with face wipes as a cost-effective way to deep cleanse my face, and also don’t mind a drugstore-bought sheet mask (like this Garnier one). I splurge on anything Drunk Elephant. Next on my list to try is… Cosmetic 27’s Crème Biologique! It looks v goooood! Jai, Editorial Assistant What is your daily skincare routine? I’ll wake up and wash my face with cold water to cleanse. Then, depending on how puffy my eyes are, I’ll use Origins No Puffery Cooling Rollerball (TBH I don’t really know if it works or not, but I feel grown up when I use it, so yolo). I’ll then moisturise with Dermalogica’s Calm Water Gel (bloody life-changing—no blocked pores or sweaty forehead in the summer with this moisturiser). That’s it really… Oh, and I also always put Rosehip Oil on my eyebrows and brush it into them (not weird, they my bbys). As soon a I get home from work or a day/night out, I immediately jump in the shower and clean off any makeup with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (the one for sensitive skin, as my skin is EXTREMELY sensitive and hates everyone and everything, all the time). I’ll then cleanse with the Mario Badescu Glycol Foaming Cleanser, which I only just found out (after two years of using it daily, religiously) that you’re only meant to use it twice a week max :/, so I now have the Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel for day-to-day use, which I honestly don’t feel does the job as well as the foaming cleanser. But whatever, as long as I’m clean yo’. Post-shower and pre-bed, I ALWAYS lather my face and neck in Bio Oil (best ever). Okay, that’s it. Actually, no! I’m also a lip balm addict, so I literally apply it like five times an hour—doesn’t matter what kind, any I can get my hands on, really. [Editor’s note: there’s a Carmex Lip Balm tub sitting on her desk RN]. To be completely transparent, I have only just started taking my skin seriously. The one thing I have always trusted to make my skin glow is drinking at least 2L of water a day, typical, I know, but I legit stand by it. What product do you reach for when your skin is feeling ‘meh’? I don’t really drink alcohol much, but the only time my skin really feels ‘meh’ is probably the day after a night out. Which obviously means I’m dehydrated, so I’ll force myself to drank the devil’s liquid (water) and continue to lather my skin in oil, but Sukin Rosehip Oil this time as it’s thicker. What’s your favourite cost-friendly product, and what do you tend to splurge on? Bio-Oil!!! The absolute best invention ever—it’ll make your skin G-L-O-W and a bottle will last for over a year (if you’re using it nightly). For a splurge, LIP BALM! My bestie Emily and I like to try every different kind of lip balm there is. Every time we go to a chemist, we’ll buy one we haven’t tried before, even if it is like $25 for a 3 gram tube. Next on my list to try is… Every Dermalogica product under the sun. Georgie, Creative Assistant What does your daily skincare routine look like? In the morning, I always start by washing my face, and once or twice a week, I use a scrub like this Mario Badescu one just in my nose area. Once I get out of the shower, I air-dry my face. I then apply a serum and leave for a few minutes to let that sink in (I usually then spend my time starting to choose what to wear). At the moment I’m using the Perfect Potion Replenish Serum. Then my favourite part—a face oil. Admittedly, I have a bit of an obsession with oils, and have quite a few on rotation from day to day… My favourites are the Perfect Potion Skin Elixir, the Kosmea Radiance 24/7 Youth Boost and the Kora Organics Noni Glow. A big part of my routine is a facial massage which really makes a difference for my dark circles and plumping up my face. Crystal Rollers are also a good place to start. I then finally apply a face cream, and at the moment I am loving the Sukin Moisture Restoring Night Cream for every day and the Josie Maran Pure Argan Milk Treatment. To finish off, I use the Moogoo Honey Tingling Lip Balm… this stuff comes with me everywhere. At the end of the day to take off makeup I use a micellar water or The Face Halo is magic—the only downside is my washing schedule can’t keep up. At night I try to let my skin breathe and usually just apply one oil or cream. For the body, I’ve always been quite lazy but now every other day when I have time I dry brush before having a shower and then use the Aesop Redemption Body Scrub (first thing in years I’ve found to work softening my skin) and then follow with the Aesop Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm. What product do you reach for when your skin is feeling ‘meh’? Oils are always my go to to restore some moisture, plumpness and colour to the skin. I love using the Sunday Riley Luna Oil at night time (and don’t worry it wont dye your skin blue). An all-over dry skin saviour, especially after flying, is GoÄ“ Oil. Something that I’ve found I can’t live without are my Beauty Chef Powders… I carry this concoction with me everywhere (I’ve even taken it into a bar before) and am constantly pitching it to my friends. I swear by the Collagen Inner Beauty Boost, the Glow Inner Beauty Powder and the Cleanse Inner Beauty Powder. What’s your favourite cost-friendly product, and what do you tend to splurge on? My favourite cost-effective products is the the Kosmea Radiance 24/7 Youth Boost and the Sukin Moisture Restoring Night Cream for every day. Next on my list to try… the Beauty Chef Probiotic Skin Refiner and the Ere Perez Quandong Green Booster Serum. We showed you our daily skincare routines, so it’s only fair you show us yours in the comments section below… Pretty please! Help! Does The Perfect White T-Shirt Exist? I’m a seasonal wardrobe culler… I jump at the opportunity to throw out (donate) most of my pre-loved clothing every time summer turns to winter, and vice versa. It’s therapeutic, and over the years I’ve increasingly learnt to detach myself from my material possessions. Heading into the warmer months in the Southern Hemisphere means I’ve already dropped off four bags full to my local Red Cross donation bin. In those four bags I assume I must have thrown in every-single-white-tee-I-have-ever-had because none remain in my wardrobe. Literally. This morning I put on my colourful red stripped pants and whinged for longer than I care to admit that I didn’t have any tops to pair them with. I though to myself, where da heck have all of my white t-shirts gone? Had I really thrown them ALL out?! If so… Why?!?!?! I took a minute, and then remembered it’s because I grew to hate them all. I had around 8 shirts from memory, and none of them even came close to cutting the mustard. They were either too tight around my underarms, the material balled up after only a couple of wears, they shrunk in the wash, or the fabric wasn’t breathable in the summer. I mean, you buy a white t-shirt expecting it be the cornerstone and most go-to staple in your wardrobe, right? Anyway, I need a new white tee. Not just any—the perfect white tee. Cut above the hips and relatively fitted (though not fitted enough to touch my armpits), I need one that doesn’t discolour and is just the lightest most delicate, breathable and softest material in the world. Sources say Jac+Jack do a mean white tee, as do Acne and Rag & Bone. Can anyone confirm? Or—do you have any other recommendations? Help a sista out and her armpits/wardrobe out by sharing all your hot white t-shirt tips below. I’ll be forever grateful! Words, Jai Kaldor | Image, FEEL jeans The post Help! Eris Shaver On Finding Your Feet (And Friends) In NYC “I’m Eris. I’m 19 years old and a model, although I have taken a bit of a break from in it the past year. I’m in a transitional period in my life, so when people ask me what I do I never know what to say! I love cooking, writing, fashion, thrifting, reading magazines on the floor of Mcnally Jackson bookstore and listening to politics podcasts. I’m originally from Arizona and just moved to NYC two months ago. I’ve lived in the city before for a month here and there for modelling, but felt like I needed to move here on my own without having to rely on an agency to tell me when I could stay. Feeling lonely is definitely the most difficult part about living in NYC. Because of social media (Instagram) I felt like I had a lot of friends in the city. When I got here I realised that just because we follow each other on Instagram doesn’t mean that we’d hang out in real life. I’m super shy also, so I feel like nobody would want to hang out with me. I love NYC for the endless opportunities to meet amazing, creative, vision-driven people. “My skincare/beauty routine is very simple. I have one of those electric clarisonic face brushes that I use with Aveda purifying gel cleanser. After that, I use witch hazel on an exfoliating cotton round and then just Aveda hydrating lotion. If I feel my skin start to break out I either use this prescription sulfur cream my grandma gave me or the lactic acid solution from The Ordinary. As for makeup, I keep it really minimal with lots of Glossier products. Their boy brow is my saving grace.” Instagram @eris_shaver | Photographer @kristenjanwong The post Eris Shaver On Finding Your Feet (And Friends) In NYC appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER. 5 Timeless French-Girl Pieces To Invest In Guys, I have a confession to make: I’m still not sure I’ve determined what my ‘personal style’ actually is. This could speak directly to my indecisive nature in general or my unwillingness to put myself into a box. One day I feel like channelling Carmela Soprano, the next I derive my inspiration from 80s aerobics clips. A week later, all I’ll want to wear is jeans and a t-shirt. The road to figuring out my style is a long and bendy one with many disparate pit stops. I suspect it’s also because I simply can’t help myself when it comes to jumping on trends (whoops!), or making erratic, fun vintage purchases that are great standalone, but that don’t really make sense in the context of my wardrobe. It’s a jungle in there, let me tell you. The antidote for this affliction is spying what the galz in France are up to. Now, there’s a nation of stylish women who understand the benefits of a capsule wardrobe. If you’re also blessed/cursed with a proclivity for changing up your vibe on the regular, or shopping on a whim, here’s 5 timeless french-girl pieces that will help to keep you looking casj and chic AF… A good pair of straight denim jeans What would our wardrobes look like if denim was never invented? I shudder to think. While shapes and cuts come and go, a good pair of vintage-esque jeans will last forever. Whether you’re pairing with a vintage blouse in winter, or a cute Reformation top for summer, you’re guaranteed to get a gr8 return on investment because chances are you’ll wanna wear them all day, erryday. Below are my favourites that sit at the intersection of comfortable, flattering and well-fitted, with prices to suit all budgets. Splurge: Re/Done jeans High Rise Rigid Stove Pipe Jeans , FEEL The Genuine Jean Save: Levi’s Wedgie Jeans, Glassons Mom Jean For a wider selection of under-$150 jeans, here’s a little something I prepared for you earlier. A striped shirt Like a lot of great trends, the sudden ubiquity of the striped shirt a few years back pretty much killed it for me. But, when styled in an unexpected yet simple way—with the addition of a neck scarf, the help of a constellation of beaded jewellery or with a pair of strappy metallic heels and white jeans—the striped shirt is cool (and I imagine as carefree) as the cucumber slice in your gin & tonic. Just ask your favourite french girl on Insta. Or my moodboard for my next summer vaccay! Splurge: Fiorucci Red & White Striped Logo T-Shirt, Current/Elliot Striped T-Shirt Save: Madewell Striped T-shirt A picnic-friendly dress Find me a better outfit to eat cheese and drink wine in a park in than a romantic floral dress, and I’ll throw you a picnic myself. Under the Eiffel Tower, no less! Juxtapose the femininity of a floral dress with a pair of sneakers, or lean right into it with a pair of strappy sandals—the world is ur oyster! Splurge: Reformation Marnie Dress, Realisation Par The Juliet Rouge Fleur Save: ASOS Midi Tea Dress in Floral, Zara Floral Dress A pair of strappy metallic heels Perhaps you’ve wondered to yourself how french women always manage to look effortlessly dressed up, and I say to you, look down! More precisely at their feet, which are generally clad in a pair of très sophistiqué metallic strappy heels (or, sometimes in a pair of block heels or espadrilles. The easiest way to go to take an outfit from being pavement-friendly to dinner party apropos is to throw a bit of metallic at your feet. Besides, who doesn’t like shiny things? Splurge: Aquazurra Strappy Heels, Dorateymur Strappy Heels Save: Zara Metallic Heels, Schutz Strappy Silver Heels A pendant necklace Sure, we’re often down to decorate our decolletages with various beaded and bedazzled jewels, but when it’s all starting to feel a bit O-T-T or you want to feel classic instead of creative with your accessories, it’s nice to revert back to the ol’ pendant necklace. Splurge: Loren Stewart 14-Karat Gold Necklace, Lucy Folk Pendant Necklace Save: Reliquia Seashell Pendant Necklace, Reliquia Mini Gold Pendant Necklace Words, Madeleine Woon | Image, Rouje The post 5 Timeless French-Girl Pieces To Invest In appeared first on CHRONICLES OF HER.
